Like the last choice there Joe..Time will tell. This kid is super young. And if he kicks like he’s been kicking and continues to develop his accuracy and leg? We got us a..Winner in Town!
I think people’s perspective is off.. Didn’t trade 2 picks… Only 1 pick and that was the 2nd 4th.. The lower one. Still pick 3 players after 3 rounds didn’t “lose” a pick.
unbelievable, you’re an idiot, Aguayo is better than any of those you listed! This is a great pick, there hasn’t been a better pick through pick 79 that beats this guy! Believe in Licht, he knows what he’s doing!
To me it’s not really about whether we grabbed him in the 2nd or 3rd, but rather who else was still available at the time, and will no longer be available next time we pick.
Bucs brass show they are clueless, in desperate need of defensive help we burn pick at the top of the 3rd & 4th round for a player we could have gotten in the 6th or 7th. Tell me how a kicker is gonna help us when Julio Jones is running a seam route. So freakin stupid. So many good defensive players on the board, and we take a kicker, embarrassed to be a bucs fan once again.
We did not give up a lot to get him, but like I said before… it’s not really about whether we grabbed him in the 2nd or 3rd, but rather who else was still available at the time, and will no longer be available next time we pick.
Many scouts had the kid going in the 3rd. I don’t see what the problem is. I wanted them to wait until the 4th to get him, but I’m pretty sure he wasn’t going to be there.
How is a kicker gonna help our defense? Sure cant cover, can’t tackle, won’t put any pressure on the opposing QB. BoneHead move of the draft, thanks licht we now are the laughing stock of the NFL.
What ll this is telling me is that the official Buc consensus is the the current defensive talent was sorely underutilized/mismanaged by the Lovie debacle.
The lonesome kickers get no respect until they are needed and put points on the board. Its football and he is very important to our future SB.. Just sayin.. we only gave up our free 4th and used our 3rd in the 2nd.. I like it.. Go Bucs..
Bottom line is we have much greater needs than a kicker, like secondary help. As it now stands we have two dwarfs at corner with a 5’9″ Brent Grimes and now 5’9 1/2 Vernon Hargraves. I’m all for giving little people an opportunity but how we gonna match up with the likes of jones, Benjamin, etc!? But hey we got kicker who can rattle the opposing team with an angry cheer and dirty looks. Moronic move by the bonehead licht.
This guy better not miss anything. Could have had Nassib orBraxton Miller, or Calhoun. Several other need position. Spence made up for Hargreaves, No excuse for this pick IMO.
People come on, great kickers come along every 15 years, kickers win you games. We have lost double digit am out of games last 3 years because our kicking was horrendous. Ask NE the great team of past 15 years, they have always had the best kicker in the league. Ask Tom Brady about 3 of his rings Vinatieri won for him. Wake up, a clutch kicker is one of the most important aspects of your team.
How many rookie CBs and DEs do we need in one draft? We have a full boat of CBs. And 2 new DEs to help improve the pass rush. We have decent depth at DT and a rock solid group of LBers. Sure we can use a Safety. But we needed a kicker as bad or worse than we need a safety. Chris Conte will not lose a game. A bad kicker will.
So to recap: we added 3 new CBs this off season, 2 new DEs, a new LB. but we have done nothing to improve our defense…. Apparently these bucs “fans” haven’t been paying attention the past 2 months.
I don’t care how you spin it, this is the deepest draft in modern history with 120+ starters available according to the best estimates, and you give away TWO DEFENSIVE STARTERS (third rounder and high fourth rounder) for a kicker? The Bucs had a high probability of coming away from this draft with four defensive starters total. Not players. Starters. They could have re-stocked this defense in a major way, but instead they chose to go all Al Davis on us.
I’m not going to whine and start personally attacking Licht like some fans, but I will say that if Aguayo isn’t a difference maker immediately, and if he doesn’t have a strong and accurate leg FOR A DECADE like Janikowski, then this pick is a total and complete waste and a fiasco. I hope Licht is 100% sure of that outcome because he placed his reputation on the line with this pick.
Here are some defensive starters the Bucs passed on in order to pick Aguayo (and these are just the biggest names…there are many more):
Shilique Calhoun DE
Jordan Jenkins OLB
Kendal Fuller CB
Javon Hargrave DT
Justin Simmons FS
And if the Bucs were gonna trade up with the Chiefs for a defensive starter instead of a kicker they could’ve had this guy roaming their secondary:
Vonn Bell FS
Can you believe this? I’m still taken aback by this decision.
Bullspit Dallas lolol Give away two defensive starters?
Whose to say they were going to draft two defensive players?
Oh yea…They weren’t cause they had their third round pick set on Aguayo.
Lastly there is no guarantees EVER in the draft, so cut the crap saying things like we passed on defensive starters as if we know how any pick will pan out.
The number of points he’ll be responsible for and the peace of mind he’ll give one we get within his range is a game changer. Great second round pick up. Licht continues to crush it
Dallas is right. with the lack of talent on this team we likely gave up two starters for this kicker. And for the guys discounting what we paid with the Chicago pick, think about it this way, If my kid has $100 and I give him another $50 and he goes and spends $150 on something really stupid(like trading up to pick a kicker) he still wasted $150, not $100.
No.
At first my response was, eh – I’m ok with it.
But now …. No. No I’m not.
They should have waited to see if he fell to round 3 or 4.
They should taken a DT (Andrew Billings is still out there!) or Safety( Von Bell?)
A WR maybe?
I love how the trolls come out and pretend to be Buc fans on draft day; like that bucrealist jerk (Pantoss posting on two accounts?) who bash every pick the Bucs make! Hey the Bucs gave up what was their 3rd rounder for an immediate contributor who will not shank a 35 yard FG or a PAT. That is immediate impact for a pick, can you say that for any of the projects that you might have gotten in the third round? NO! There are a lot of great Buc fans posting on this board Joe but you have picked up a few cancers that should be removed (hint, hint)….
Last night I was in full WTF!? mode, but after sleeping on it (and letting the alcohol wear off) I’m more open to going Licht the benefit of the doubt on the pick. A lot of people thought Marpet was a reach last year, so hopefully we look back at the decision next year and are praising Licht for savvy draft skills. Time will tell.

U should have included an option that was “NOT A SNOWBALLS CHANCE IN HELL”.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:17 pm
I like it. And I like our draft so far
April 29th, 2016 at 10:19 pm
He’ll score more points in his career than anyone else in the draft.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:19 pm
If he has a Vinatieri / Janikowski / gostkowski -type career, it’s worth it.
Otherwise…. no.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:22 pm
The only pick we gave up was the 4th we got from Chicago last night. we swapped our 3rd for KC 2nd

Greg,
FSU homer much? BTW, Name-calling makes you sound really intelligent.
You’re right, none of those guys I listed are any good. Why would we hope for that level of skill?
April 29th, 2016 at 10:31 pm
PanToss …..6th or 7th?
According to who? You?

Great pick!
I do understand those of you that are surprised but this guy is very accurate very likable and will help us control field position also.
We lost at least two games last year because of poor kicking.

Go cheer for another team. We don’t need ya!
