Jason Licht talks draft at One Buc Palace today

Yes, general managers serve the head coach.

It’s fun to pretend they don’t.

But that’s the reality is most NFL cities. Jason Licht operated that way in 2014 and 2015, though it handcuffed him because Lovie Smith was so rigid in what he wanted from defensive players. That’s likely part of the reason the Bucs only drafted one defensive player in the past two years.

Licht reiterated today “you don’t want to force a player on any coach.”

So does that mean Dirk Koetter runs the draft? Does Mike Smith run it on the defensive side of the ball? No.

But Joe asked Licht if he would draft a player Smith absolutely didn’t like. Licht said it was unlikely.

    Im thinking Jay Hayes will probably be the ultimate persuader this draft 🙂

    @Madmax

    Hayes will make what is a rich and deep DT draft, a harvest for our line.

    Me too Max. I think he’s the wild card. I think he gets us the correct DE’s we need.

  4. The Buc Realist Says:

    Do not be surprised to see a DT taken by the Bucs in rounds 1-3!!!!!

  5. Buc since '74 Says:

    Agreed Realist. Pair a stud DL w/ McCoy – then the DE’s just have to catch the scrambling QB. Here he comes again, running for his life… gotcha!
