“Stop Sleeping”
April 4th, 2016Now this is the kind of draft prospect Joe likes for Tampa Bay in 2016.
The Bucs need live new bodies — plural — competing on the defensive line. So Joe’s all in favor of Tampa Bay snatching three D-linemen next month in the first five rounds. It’s a deep class, and volume can help the odds of quality emerging.
Today, Joe is talking about Texas athletic defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway.
Many think the 6-3, 303-pound junior came out too early after a battling injuries (back, shoulder and ankle) and inconsistency last year. But Ridgeway in a healthy, athletic freak and got a second-round grade from the NFL college advisory committee, which gives underclassmen an educated guess of where they might be drafted.
NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock publicly has thrown cold water on Ridgeway, and intelligent others have him pegged as a fourth-round pick.
But former Bucs QB Chris Simms, truly one of the great NFL analysts around, says Ridgeway is NFL-ready and might be the best defensive lineman in the draft overall. Yes, overall! That’s massive praise, and you can watch Sims’ look here, via Bleacher Report, where he pleads with people to “stop sleeping” on Ridgeway. (Yes, Joe realizes Simms played for Texas.)
Ridgeway is a wild card, a pass-rusher with versatility and gobs of raw talent. If the Bucs could score a guy like him in the fourth round, or late-third, Joe would be ecstatic, assuming it’s after a defensive end already was drafted on Day 1 or Day 2.
Yet another reason to trade Mike Glennon.

I LUV the kid. Actually have him on my final mock draft- in the 6th round.
I like him more at Free Safety over Corner though.
Side Bar: Would LUV to see his teammate C.J. Promise in a BUCS jersey as well.

Sims is our running back that does well in a complimentary role but probably should’ve been an offensive or defensive lineman. Simms is our former qb who was off to a stellar career, albeit a poor season, before almost getting killed by the Stinkin Panthers.

Charlie strong always gets the most out of his dline and lb’s…my only knock against him is his inconsistent play…vs. ou he was a beast but against ksu he was average at best…a player that I have studied is javon hargrave dt from scst…I watched the game live vs Bethune cookman university and the kid had 6sacks(2014)…against better competition(usc, costal Carolina) he still displayed a quick first step and commanded doubleteams…in the east vs west shrine game he displayed the same quickness and power which earned him an invitation to the senior bowl where he sustained an minor injury….he’ll be available between the 3-5 rounds…watch him…GO BUCS!!!

There are two DT who teams will be targeting in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Javon Hargrave and Hassan Ridgeway. When Ridgeway is on he can dominate the LOS. His athleticism and quickness help him get after the QB. The reason why Ridgeway is considered a 4th round pick is questions concerning his conditioning and last year’s injury problems (back injury). If healthy and with the right motivation he can be a dominant player. My money is on Javon Hargrave South Carolina St. He should be there in the 3rd round. Hargrave’s combine measurable are as good as any DT and what he accomplished at South Carolina State is something to take note of. In the last two years 29.5 sacks and 45.5 tackles for a loss.

@LUV…im an alum…class of ’09…half time shows were (mostly) the reason I attended the games…we performed during a few halftimes for the bucs as well…that’s why I cant stand graham gano….idiot tried to warm up while band members were still performing…but like all great performers, we(the band) performed great under adversity…GO BUCS!!!

Well at least he does fit the profile for the Bucs. Battling Injuries.

Its nice to be talking about 3rd and 4th round prospects who have a better than average chance of being impact players considering their likely draft positions.
This draft being “deep” with Dline players (despite the lack of top 10 talent) is a very good thing for the Bucs considering that DLine was visibly the team’s most glaring weakness last year.
It will be interesting to see which young players we wind up drafting this year.

@espo…LOL…i wish it would’ve happened but unlike famu we have class..lol…I know someone had to hold Mr. Wells(Donovan wells=band director) back…he doesn’t play around when it comes to the band….the band is a major attraction…I remember my freshman year, my friends and I were catching the tail end of the band practice…now there’s 300 members in the band…at the end of practice, they all must march and play their note as they walk into the band room…I noticed my room mates cousin playing the big drums(don’t know what their called:)) and gave him a simple head nod…that small little gesture caused him to lose focus and hit the drum at the same moment the song was finished…everyone stopped playing at the same time except for him…to make matters worst he was the second to last person entering the room…mr. wells was still on the band field at least 50yards away and everyone heard him yell out,”ATL…was that you?…line em up,..start from the beginning”…of course he was the guilty party… it was so funny because a few band members yelled out “damn atl, get your head out of your a$$”…lol…the whole entire band had to run not walk but run back onto the field start the song from the top, do all of the dancing and marching and then march back to the band room hoping and praying everyone gets it right…LOLOLOLOL…that whole process took about 45-50 minutes….the look he gave was one of anger and embearassment…my friends and I were dying laughing…man I miss college…GO BUCS!!!

I’ll even go further than you there Joe..I’d like to see our Bucs go exclusively defensive in the 1st 4 rounds!
April 4th, 2016 at 8:04 pm
They need to trade MG8 yesterday. If Jameis goes down, all is lost. No sense in having a talented back up.

Ridgeway disappears alot. Maybe its the 3-4 defense. He picks up the screens just doesnt always get there in time to make first contact. I havent studied much interior dline but mr 813 i shall begin researching.

Sorry Im late Luv, went fishing and then hit the sack after getting home…more beer than fish for the day lol. Murray and Calhoun look good for 5th and 6th. Wallace’s torn ankle ligaments scare me a little. I dont know. I like Gause though. He would be a nice late round pick up.
April 5th, 2016 at 7:27 am
So Luv did you say you have that guy on your final mock draft? Really? Lol!
