MJD Not Fond Of Jameis?
April 13th, 2016Popular former NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew was never shy about giving an opinion during his playing days with the Jags.
That’s likely why he is making a living in his post-NFL days as an analyst and talking head.
MJD does a lot of work for NFL Network and SiriusXM NFL Radio. So in a recent NFL Now bit with fellow NFL Network and former NFLer Ike Taylor, MJD talked about his top three running backs currently collecting a check in the NFL.
At No. 3, MJD picked Doug Martin. And in lauding everyone’s favorite Muscle Hamster, MJD may have had an indirect crack at America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.
“Let me tell you, my thing is this,” MJD explained to Taylor, “if you take Doug Martin away, I don’t know what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offense is like. Matter of fact I do. They would have the No. 1 pick in the draft.
“So when I sit here and look at Doug Martin, what he’s done and what he’s able to do, if he can stay healthy – and I know it was his contract year – this young man was the workhorse for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. … Without him, there is nothing else you can do. Who else are you going to give the ball to?”
Well, Joe isn’t sure if MJD was just discussing running backs, but it is not as if Jameis didn’t have other weapons.
Sure, without Martin the Bucs’ running game would have struggled. But Charles Sims, in his second season — and a healthy year at that — proved his skills. And remember, Bobby Rainey was also on the roster and he was the best Bucs running back 2014.
Jameis did throw for over 4,000 yards last season, many while trailing and with then-offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter shelving the running game. So to suggest the Bucs would have been the worst team in the league without Martin, that tells Joe that MJD is either not sold on Jameis, or doesn’t believe Jameis is all that.
Would the Bucs have been a lesser team without Martin? Of course. Would the Bucs have been the worst team in the NFL without Martin? Joe isn’t buying that.

Why is he talking about the bucs like they are the Mariota-led Titans. Sure Martin is the rock of the team, I was hoping they would resign him. Bucs the team has pieces in place to succeed. Martin makes the job much easier though.
April 13th, 2016 at 10:29 am
Please excuse my table manners Joe but anyone with anything negative to say about Jamies can go f@$! themselves. All the shade being thrown at the bay is nauseating to me. Many will be the same mofos swinging from his n@$ s@$! here shortly when he is the face of the entire league.
April 13th, 2016 at 10:33 am
Joe. You have had a man crush on Jameis for a long time now. Date him if you wish but lets hear about other team members. Please
April 13th, 2016 at 10:33 am
Peyton had Edge
Aikman had Emmitt
Warner had Faulk
etc, etc.
April 13th, 2016 at 10:36 am
None move the needle like Jameis. None. And Joe has the data to back that up. Not even close.
Always remember, Joe writes mostly what interests Joe. Sorry, but Joe finds Jameis far more captivating than, say, Demar Dotson, even though he maybe is the nicest guy in the locker room.
April 13th, 2016 at 10:37 am
While I do not listen to MJD on NFL Radio regularly, I can say that every once in a while i do check it out,, and this is not the first time that he has said something about JW3!!! While DM22 was a huge part of the offense, everyone took a dive as soon as VJ83 went on IR!!!
April 13th, 2016 at 10:42 am
Slow news day I guess. Wake me in August.
April 13th, 2016 at 10:43 am
I have a man crush on Jameis. MJD probably does too but he’s embarrassed about it and it makes him question his sexuality so he says mean things about him
April 13th, 2016 at 10:44 am
Ahh. He s just hyping running backs cause he was one. None issue.
Classic. In regards to BEN’s POST/opinion/comments-joe has been doing that since Jameis got here. He put the Cabash on you quickly. Nothing will change .
April 13th, 2016 at 10:45 am
You go Noles! I thought the same thing..
April 13th, 2016 at 10:45 am
We were the worst team in the league WITH Doug Martin on the team….In 2014.
April 13th, 2016 at 10:46 am
Joe Says:
None move the needle like Jameis. None.
Not even the popular Lovie Confidence Poll?????
April 13th, 2016 at 10:50 am
Nope. Joe is in business to attract readers, not bore them and chase them away. No practice squad stories here.
You don’t see BSPN, NFL Network or FOX Sports spending cash to send crews down here to do stories on, say, Joe Hawley or Akeem Spence, notice? There’s a reason for that and they have more research data than Joe has.
April 13th, 2016 at 10:50 am
Screw mjd the guy is a moron don’t see him lasting much longer on TV.
April 13th, 2016 at 10:51 am
Lovie was one of the rare subjects that came close to Jameis in terms of readership. LOL Obviously, not for the same reasons.
April 13th, 2016 at 11:06 am
Maybe I have a girl crush on JW:) but I’m always glad to see a new JW post!! Keep em coming Joe. He is without a doubt the most fascinating member of the team maybe even the league.
April 13th, 2016 at 11:08 am
P.s…screw MJD. He obviously doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
April 13th, 2016 at 11:21 am
FSUking that was funny😃. Realist!!! that first post was simply a fact.
April 13th, 2016 at 11:35 am
Aren’t there other members of the Tampa Bay Bucs to talk about other than Winston and Koetter? I know there are many other Buc fans here who are a little tired of the Winston/Koetter Lovefest. HEll, you’d think these 2 have conquered rome again. I mean..both of them were 6-10 last year.In most circles outside of Tampa Bay, that spells….. Losers! Win some games or better yet, get us a winning season.
April 13th, 2016 at 11:43 am
MJD better get the memo, you do not bad mouth “The Savior” on Joebucsfan. Or you will get excommunicated….
April 13th, 2016 at 11:46 am
Mike Johnson:
First, Jameis and Koetter (and Mike Evans) were made available for interviews Monday. No one else (until tomorrow) were made available so naturally when one has fresh content, those are the subjects that will be written and talked about.
(Players, largely, are not allowed to speak publicly to reporters unless first approved by their team(s) or the NFL.)
Again, Joe doesn’t know how many times he has to write this: Joe is in business to attract readers, not chase them away and Joe writes about what interests Joe. Just given the success of this site since it was launched almost eight years ago, Joe seems to have the pulse of fans.
You and others may be more interested in a right guard or safety than the franchise quarterback, one of the more popular athletes in sports right now, but you would be in the vast minority. Joe has data to back this up (as in who clicks on what stories) as do TV networks, as do radio stations. Joe is not going to target the minority of fans, unless he wants to run his business into the ground. So, for example, you will never read about a practice squad player here… unless he actually does something on the field of play. Not only does Joe have zero interest in a practice squad player, fans in general have little interest as well.
To spend hours of valuable time writing about subjects few have interest in and targeting a small audience would be like an ice cream store selling only vanilla ice cream. There are folks who like just vanilla but you won’t be in business for long.

I think MJD has it backwards, having a legit QB helped open up the running lanes for Martin. Doug did a great job and had a great year, but without Jameis teams would just go back to stacking line like when Glennon was starting and we know the results from that.
April 13th, 2016 at 11:52 am
@mike johnson
Joe is right!!!! maybe you should just start your own website ” I am mad at the Bucs because they fired lovie.com” website!!!! or “BaitingBrothersBigBucsFan.com”!!!!!!!
and you have my permission to use any of these names!!!!!
April 13th, 2016 at 11:57 am
The Bucs only won six games with Martin so there is a real possibility they could have been much worse without him. It’s amazes me if someone has an opinion about the Bucs they have to be taking shots it’s only his opinion. Without Martin maybe Jameis doesn’t throw 4000 yards who knows, it’s ok get your panties out your you know what
April 13th, 2016 at 11:58 am
JOe…why don’t you run your website how WE want you to?
SMH.
April 13th, 2016 at 11:58 am
I think that’s one an uninformed opinion of Robert Sims and two a huge overemphasis of the importance of Doug Martin. Certainly we are not as good without him but number one draft pick??? Pleeeeeeease those days are over man.

MJD and Ike Taylor just had a segment where MJD named Jameis as his breakout star of 2016…both guys spent the next minute+ gushing about him. Therefore, I don’t think anything he said about Doug was meant as a swipe at Jameis.
April 13th, 2016 at 12:10 pm
briandorry55:
Thanks for the tip. Will have to search for that segment.
April 13th, 2016 at 12:17 pm
It tells me that MJD doesn’t follow the Bucs and, therefore, doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about. But when it comes to these “National Experts” – who does? Bunch of Jabronies.
April 13th, 2016 at 12:19 pm
Joe wants clicks yet he scoffs at mock drafts for the same reason. Explains the Trump infatuation. He moves the needle. At least Jaboo backs up his “needle” with substance.
p.s.
JBF hour on 620 is supposed to be mostly bucs talk not Todd Wright name dropping, talking about his days with BSPN, more name dropping, golf, radio shows on TV and blah blah blah. Or was it just me?

Brian beat me to it, MJD was fighting for JW. The argument was that mariota didn’t have any weapons but then again neither did JW. MJD said hands-down JW would have a better year bc Koetter is running the team.
April 13th, 2016 at 2:33 pm
@ Mark Biggens Bachma
I hate when Todd Wright is on the radio also. As you said name dropping, stating places he has been and pats on his own back is so tiresome. He does that every time he is on the radio. Not to mention he must have the most boring delivery of anybody on radio. I am sorry Joe, but I refused to listen to you yesterday and I look forward to your big dog hour every week. I just couldn’t do it.
April 13th, 2016 at 2:56 pm
I think this is a simple as a former RB giving credit to a RB because thats what he knows. He was on a team that he carried for many seasons so I think he sees Doug Martin as the same.
April 13th, 2016 at 3:42 pm
Partially true. First, show Joe any business that doesn’t want customers to come through the door. If Publix tries to lure you through their doors with bacon for sale, are they somehow evil? Of course not.
Second, Joe doesn’t invent stories for clickbait. Mock drafts, largely, are little more than throwing s(p)it up against the wall. That’s why Joe would much rather link to position rankings.
First of all, sincere thanks for listening. Truly. Much appreciated.
Joe always knows his place. He is there at 620 as a guest of the host, not to dictate content. Not unlike if a neighbor invited you into his mancave. Surely you wouldn’t order your host what to watch on TV. If the 620 host(s) wants to talk chicks, Joe is more than happy to comply… and contribute!
And for the record, Joe likes Todd Wright a great deal.
April 14th, 2016 at 8:52 am
believe we have a better chance to win with koetter as MJD says. better decisions have to be made on the field on gameday.Touchdowns win games. except when time is running out.Trying 56 yard field goals is risky business. On
fourth and short I am hoping we give our team a chance to win and keep driving instead of automatically punting or FG.also hope Koetter will mix up plays
better so there is a less predictable element to our offense.Go bucs!
April 14th, 2016 at 2:59 pm
No one is saying that Jameis is ready to put this offense on his back – right now. So we signed Doug to a 2yr deal – that puts Jameis in yr 4…Our GM won’t over pay for the running back position any more. We were in a good cap situation and Dougie is a nice bridge player to lean on until Jameis takes the next step.
Go Bucs!
