Licht: There Was No Trade Market For Glennon
April 30th, 2016The national hype surrounding a potential trade of Mike Glennon, fueled by NFL.com, SiriusXM NFL Radio and beyond, was just that: hype.
There were no draft-day trade inquiries for Glennon, general manager Jason Licht said at his post-draft news conference today.
Period.
Glennon is the Bucs’ No. 2 quarterback, and the Bucs are grateful to have him, Licht said.
In a telling comment, head coach Dirk Koetter said, “Mike’s going to move on” after this season, assuming the Bucs have no injuries at the position. Koetter re-affirmed his belief that Glennon is an NFL starting quarterback, though it seems Koetter might be the only head coach in the NFL to think so.

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me…
Guess I’ll go eat worms.
April 30th, 2016 at 5:57 pm
He will be given a shot. So long mike, hopefully we wont need you this season!!!
April 30th, 2016 at 5:59 pm
I think Joe, who was leading the charge to trade Glennon for anything anyone would offer, is drowning himself in his beer.
April 30th, 2016 at 6:02 pm
Starting QB’s get hurt every year. Glennon may get traded before it’s over.
April 30th, 2016 at 6:03 pm
I’m going to be selfish and hope he doesn’t get any love next season either and we go ahead and sign him at $5 million/year or so as a backup. He may be the highest quality backup in the NFL. Odds are that one or more of these teams that *should* have inquired about him made a huge mistake in the last couple months and will be ready to give him $15/year.
April 30th, 2016 at 6:05 pm
What I don’t like is carrying 3 QBs on the active 53……we could use a 3rd QB on the practice squad instead…..Hanging onto Ryan Griffin when Glennon isn’t going anywhere doesn’t make any real sense……hell, If Griffin is that good, then trade him either for a player or for a 2017 pick.
Maybe, just maybe…..Glennon will know that he won’t find much of a market next year in FA and will resign with us for a nice backup salary.
April 30th, 2016 at 6:11 pm
Many of us tried to tell you glennon was going nowhere. My question again is whats so wrong with having a solid back up qb?
April 30th, 2016 at 6:16 pm
The truth be told.
April 30th, 2016 at 6:24 pm
“though it seems Koetter might be the only head coach in the NFL to think so.”
Such a snarky comment coming from someone who just two years ago hitched his wagon to the John “I’m still unemployed” Manziel wagon.
Joe (don’t) Know QBs!

I’ve been saying this since glennon trade chatter started. No one thinks glennon is an NFL starter. Yes he could be a marginal starter for 2 or 3 teams, but only because their QBs god awful. But now that those teams just drafted a QB. glennon would not start for any team in the NFL. Glennon has decent arm talent. If a decent arm was all it took to be an NFL QB he could be a middle of the road QB. But a QBs intangibles and instincts are what make them great players. Reading defenses and feeling pressure are just as important to being a QB as throwing the football.
I wish Glennon all the luck in the world, and i hope he can grow to be a good football player, but i do not think he should be back next season. We do not need to pay glennon 5 mill a year for what he brings to the table. we can find a rookie with a possibly higher ceiling than what glennon has at a fraction of the price.

There never was a trade market for Glennon…unless the San Diego Zoo lost a giraffe…and even then….they’d probably pick up a newborn through the “draft”. 😉 When I started to read that the Bucs turned down substantial offers i.e. 2nd or even 3rd rounders…I knew that smoke screen/signal season was now in session.
April 30th, 2016 at 6:48 pm
I’m starting to think that jason who is a really nice guy is in over his head a bit
April 30th, 2016 at 6:55 pm
Of course nobody wanted Glennon, they watched his tape and saw a rookie could do the same thing or better. I wish Glennon well next off season.
April 30th, 2016 at 7:03 pm
And as we all knew. The only time Glennon was “ON The Clock” was in Joe’s head.
April 30th, 2016 at 7:04 pm
Don’t believe any NFL rumors leading up to the draft.
No one wanted the gutless giraffe
April 30th, 2016 at 7:06 pm
Excellent draft or so it appears. Glennon may be better now and more improved than anyone else knows. He’d be wise to sign an extension, carry that clipboard for 10 years and retire a rich man.
April 30th, 2016 at 7:07 pm
Glennon should not be worried. The Kid is playing his string the way its suppose to be played. Continue to develop. After next season, he will get a fresh start/shot with another team. One never knows what the next year will bring. And Glennon will get a shot this upcoming year along the way.
April 30th, 2016 at 7:28 pm
He’s over-hyped as a starter
April 30th, 2016 at 7:40 pm
When Griffin out plays the heartless 8 in training camp the delusional mob will finally be dead. Maybe then they can go back to being bucs fans versus excuse makers for a middle of the road back up who couldn’t beat out McClown
April 30th, 2016 at 7:52 pm
He is better than Geno Smith, Fitzpatrick, Hoyer, Mccown, and several others. He could still be very good…..
April 30th, 2016 at 8:06 pm
See Joe you scared away all the bidders for MG8.
April 30th, 2016 at 9:58 pm
He is Ok ,, A back up in case the worse happens, I hope he sits on beech for next ten years!!
April 30th, 2016 at 10:59 pm
I guess we’ll see next offseason whether he’s viewed as a starter. If he doesn’t get offers to start as a FA, he could be back in Tampa as backup for a few more years.
April 30th, 2016 at 11:01 pm
You guys who keep saying Glennon is not a starting qb are crazy. Sure he only went 5-13 but he was a rookie with a poor supporting cast. He beat the Steelers on a final pass attempt of the game. A game winning drive. Do you know the last time we beat the Steelers??? He almost best the Superbowl Champs Seahawks with some gutsy play. Why do you think they chose McClown over him??? Because they knew he would mess up the Race For Jameis by winning a few games. So give the the guy a break he’s not the scrub you all make him out to be!

Joe doesn’t HAVE to be a Jerk,.. but he just likes it so much!
May 1st, 2016 at 4:48 am
Soooo, no other team wanted Glennon. That should send a message to the “stiill around”, “Glennon Mob”.
May 1st, 2016 at 8:49 am
We are fortunate to have Mike Glennon here in Tampa. He will almost surely be gone next year.
May 1st, 2016 at 9:20 am
There was no market because Jason Licht sucks at trades. That’s okay though. He nailed it in this draft, as everyone will realize as the season plays out.
May 1st, 2016 at 9:23 am
All the ppl that are dissing MG8 will be begging & crying for him after he leaves and The reckless JW gets injured during a playoff run. Watch.
May 1st, 2016 at 9:28 am
@Bonsai
“Licht nailed this draft”
Slow your role there cowboy. He nailed the first two picks, I,will say that. The other 2nd rndr was a bit of a reach but I still like it. Other than that the jury is still out on the other picks. Only time will tell.

Elite QB’s in the NFL have a perfect balance of making the safe throws and taking risks when deemed necessary. Unfortunately Glennon plays the game way to safe and mind you, will win you some games at times, but also will put more pressure on the defense. In the 20 or so some odd games he started for the Bucs, I was not impressed all that much and I don’t coach football for a living. I am not surprised he didn’t garner much interest.
May 1st, 2016 at 7:10 pm
If I’m a team why would I trade for Glennon when they are going to get rid of him after the year. Free pick up. I wouldn’t have traded for a guy a team is going to let go after a year either. He’ll be available for cheap.
May 2nd, 2016 at 9:22 am
All I can say Joe is a least he still has a job unlike your Wonder Boy “Johnny Football” that you were so SURE about and all we heard about 2 years ago. So Glad we didn’t draft him and still have Glennon as a back up.
