Koetter, Licht Talk Drafting A Kicker
April 29th, 2016It seems half of Bucs fandom is outraged Tampa Bay traded back up into the second round to draft Florida State kicker Roberto Aguayo.
There is method to the madness, the Bucs’ braintrust explained tonight.
First, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht said Aguayo was their top-rated kicker. When Joe asked, as the rumors floating around on Twitter suggested, if Licht sniffed out another team about to pull the trigger on drafting Aguayo, Licht didn’t deny it.
“There is a reason,” Licht said of his unorthodox move.
Koetter stated Aguayo’s strong leg and accuracy were key elements. With one-point conversions now the equivalent of a 33-yard field goal attempt, a long, accurate leg is more important than ever.
“It’s the same kick,” Aguayo said. “You hit the ball the same way.”
Also, Koetter noted the new kickoff rule puts the ball at the opponent’s 25 on a touchback but it likely will be changed. Thus, the Bucs were looking at Aguayo’s booming leg on kickoffs as a future need.
Koetter said Aguayo consistently belted his kickoffs out of the end zone at Florida State and added he knows the Bucs will take a large amount of flak from fans for trading up to draft a kicker in the second round.
As Licht said to open his press conference, “I got a kick out of that last pick.”
April 29th, 2016 at 10:31 pm
Amen Joe. Keep preaching
April 29th, 2016 at 10:32 pm
Who’s got big balls?
Licht’s got big balls!
Licht’s got the biggest, balls of them all
April 29th, 2016 at 10:32 pm
It’s funny. Licht will draft a full back in 5th or 6th round cause we don’t have one on roster and that is when the top guys go for this position. He will be able to say he had back to back years of drafting 4 starters.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:34 pm
Other than the qbs at 1 & 2, this may be the best value pick in the draft. Smart move by Licht.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:34 pm
What? No. There cant be a reason. Havent you heard the whiney buc fans on JBF swear nobody wanted him in the 2nd? It has to be true, im sure their inside sources are better than Lichts.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:34 pm
You better hope you’re right. We will find out soon enough when we play the Saints and have to face Both Rankins and Bell 2 players we should’ve drafted. If we lose to the Saints twice this year Licht should he fired immediately. Just remember this stat. 5-10 from beyond 40 yards. That’s what you just drafted and gave up out 3rd and 4th for.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:35 pm
that’s a good point Bird.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:37 pm
Just have to get the ball to 45 Jameis..that gives us sooo many options.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:37 pm
And kickers don’t get hurt if they stay of the basketball court.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:37 pm
DaRealist….who’s this “we” Jags fan?
April 29th, 2016 at 10:38 pm
Gave up are 4th (free one at that)……getting tired of correcting u cry babies.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:38 pm
@ couchfan
Yea cause twitter is such an accurate source. It was probably someone in the Saints organization that sent the tweet cause they new Lights dumbass would gall for the hokey doke. Now the Saints Have bell and we are getting lauged at. Good job
April 29th, 2016 at 10:38 pm
I love this pick..
April 29th, 2016 at 10:39 pm
Yeah cause if we lose to NO it’s because of Vonn Bell.. Moron!!
April 29th, 2016 at 10:40 pm
I like the pick – assuming he really is a generational talent. If he’s on the team for the next 15 years well then it’s a heck of a pick.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:40 pm
I like how even licht is laughing…just like people who said picking jameis was a terrible decision…
April 29th, 2016 at 10:42 pm
Your crystal ball is working overtime tonight DaWhineyBucFan. Good news is, if it gets over heated you can go right to your local 7-11 and get a new one on the cheap!!
April 29th, 2016 at 10:43 pm
If you think we had a good kicker before and didn’t fill a huge need? Then you’re watching the wrong football, your sport is played on a pitch with a round ball. For the rest of you, thank you for not being blind to the fact that we got the best player at his position and he’s hopefully gonna play as a Buc for years to come, pretty cool
April 29th, 2016 at 10:44 pm
Lol crystal ball…got em!
April 29th, 2016 at 10:45 pm
Saw his accuracy dip in 2015. Made just 5-of-9 field goals from 41 yards and beyond. Will occasionally lose track of a kickoff and knock it out of bounds. Only attempted six kicks of 50-plus yards during his career. While quality of kickoffs have improved, still doesn’t have a booming kickoff leg.
This is your strong leg accurate kicker again.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:46 pm
I love this pick. Tell me this who will score more points at the end of they’re career, second round pick Austin Seferian- Jenkins or second round pick Roberto Aguayo?? Exactly. So shut up. Good pick Licht.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:48 pm
Hey tough guy with the fake swear word in your call name, thanks for pointing out your security in this kicker by mentioning as you put it, “hopefully gonna play as a buc for years to come”. You had so many needs on d line and other ones pressing there and you took a kicker late in the second. Laughable…..
April 29th, 2016 at 10:51 pm
Dallas had the best kicking percentage in the league last year. 93.8.
Went 4-12.
Hell of a kicking game though.
Insanity wrapped in stupidity.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:52 pm
The lonesome kickers get no respect until they are needed and put points on the board. Its football and he is very important to our future SB.. Just sayin.. we only gave up our free 4th and used our 3rd in the 2nd.. 3 starters..I like it.. Go Bucs..
April 29th, 2016 at 10:53 pm
R.O. we already lose to the Saints we’ve beat them once the last 8 times we’ve played them you idiot.Aguayo isn’t gonna change that.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:55 pm
Let’s just say, as you ram us for whining, if our kicker is scared and can’t kick it through the pipes, don’t want to hear any excuses. We will remember, that’s a high enough pick to feel the sting for failure to score those beloved 3 points.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:56 pm
@Eric
Great logic, they also had Matt Cassel playing quarterback.
April 29th, 2016 at 10:58 pm
I wish I could hop up out the bed…turn my swag on.
Picks are investments. That’s what this was. And was reassurance for our young qb. Idk what team you watched last year, but we have needs everywhere. We addressed one with the best player we could. Go eat some cheese now
April 29th, 2016 at 11:00 pm
Is there a punter we can waste another pick on?
April 29th, 2016 at 11:01 pm
LOVE THE PICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im all in with Licht on this one. Great SMART move!!!
April 29th, 2016 at 11:02 pm
@tb
And we have a crappy defense still.
Sure kick a field goal…….watch the other offense shred us for a touchdown.
Great winning strategy.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:02 pm
Maybe we should pay Koenen another $18mil to come back
April 29th, 2016 at 11:07 pm
So you were expecting us to use every single pick on defense and then next year all our problems are solved? If your answer to this is “no” then common sense should tell you that we dont have to spend every pick on defense. If your answer to this is yes, then please continue.
Always amusing to listen to people who think they are smart.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:08 pm
Robot A-Gun-Toe… Jamie’s boy… Makes a mean crab leg… We good … Go Bucs
April 29th, 2016 at 11:10 pm
All you bonehead licht homers, let me know what u think of the kicker pick When the final score is bucs 9 everyone 42.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:12 pm
Get use to that kinda of beating with minimal help on D
April 29th, 2016 at 11:12 pm
Who was so polarizing for us to pick at #74 or #106? Doubtful anyone who will affect or contribute to games as much as a great kicker. Just saying.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:13 pm
@PanToss
Why is lovie coming back?
April 29th, 2016 at 11:14 pm
Bring in ayers, grimes, a handful of other free agents, draft a CB and de and we still say “I want my pound of flesh!”
April 29th, 2016 at 11:15 pm
You sound like a very angry man. Keep crying for us. Only thing better than our draft is the regular Symphony of Tears orchestra afterwards.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:15 pm
I don’t like taking a kicker this high either, but there’s a reason Jason Licht is a GM and none of you are….Don’t quit your day job.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:16 pm
Why!? Because our dumb ass GM just wasted a top pick on a player with minimal impact when we have gapping holes on nearly EVERY position of our D. That’s Why.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:20 pm
Only holes we have are DE and safety. Exaggerate much little man? And nobody knows if the pick is wasted an hour after he was drafted. Could you possibly sound anymore unintelligent?
April 29th, 2016 at 11:20 pm
Last yr opposing QBs completed 70% of their passes on us, so how’s arroyo gonna help again…?
April 29th, 2016 at 11:20 pm
Look at his highlights every kick is barely inside the uprights.
take him in the 3rd you could make your argument. trading 2 picks is insanity.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:21 pm
Minimal impact lol are we talking about the same sport? Every team has a kicker that directly impacts the game numerous times so…
April 29th, 2016 at 11:22 pm
Anyone remember Automatica? Well this kicker is more accurate than gramatica was.. In this new NFL (the NFL rule change of FG was made perm.) kickers are a premium now, you better have a great kicker or you will be throwing points away. Connor Barth is good. This guy is our Janikowski.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:22 pm
We had a bad team last year…would’ve beaten the skins and Texans with a kicker…js
April 29th, 2016 at 11:23 pm
He like many good kickers will have maximum impact not minimal as you say, or at least he better..
April 29th, 2016 at 11:23 pm
I thought we were getting a safety 🙁
April 29th, 2016 at 11:23 pm
All these emo buc fans. Lol my 2 yr old isnt as whiney as some of these fools.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:23 pm
Yes but they aren’t taking then in the 2nd round, hands down dumbest move by bucs since drafting Bo Jackson.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:24 pm
I have really liked most of Licht picks the last few years but this one…. this one…..was a idiotic move! We moved up for a kicker. We could’ve gotten one the top Kickers in college in the 4th round! Maybe not this guy but probably the 2nd best one. The 3rd round can be a valuable pick. Maybe I should remind you that John Lynch, Rhonde Barber, Lavonte David, Kwon Alexander and Ali Marpet were all drafted later than this kicker! This was a stupid stupid stupid move. There just is no way to spin it. This was just a bad awful hideous move but hopefully Licht proves me wrong.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:25 pm
I guess Licht will have to have three straight good drafts before some one gives him a pass.. Gooberville we are
April 29th, 2016 at 11:26 pm
Our safteys are slow and DTs are soft but we got a kicker.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:26 pm
I love to watch comments.
Maturity will help most of your readers.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:26 pm
“We could’ve gotten him in the 4th?” Cuz we know what other gms were gonna do lol “worst pick since bo Jackson” geezus…”I take a whiskey drink, I take a vodka drink…”
April 29th, 2016 at 11:27 pm
I am apalled at the stupidity of Licht. He did NOT have to pick a kicker so high and give away 2 picks. We could have had a WR like Braxton Miller if we stayed in the 3rd! We could have had a quality DT!! but noo we have the least important position besides a punter!
April 29th, 2016 at 11:28 pm
Pan toss, you clearly don’t know anything about the bo Jackson pick to say that stupidity. What about taking gramatica 3rd round in 99? Or do you only know about Bo Jackson cuz someone told you about it.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:30 pm
Not only barely inside the upright but barely long enough.
Not a tremendously strong leg.
Lots of good kickers and most are undrafted. Cause teams don’t waste high picks on freaking kickers. Most don’t wast any pick on a kicker.
We’ve had some good kickers over the years. Never had to piss away a second rounder for one.
Dumb. Just plain dumb.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:31 pm
Now they are laughing at us on nfl network total access. But Licht has #IntelAndHeGetsPaidMillionsOfDollars
April 29th, 2016 at 11:31 pm
The draft starts tomorrow.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:32 pm
Right. We should never do what most teams seldom do. Never think outside the box. Always do the predictable. Thats a sure way to win football games.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:34 pm
Half these posters I never even see on here. I don’t post a lot but this is comical. Boo boo. We took a kicker and he will be the difference in at least one game. Absolutely worth it for a win or 2 each year….Moving on we are in position for Billings or Cooper. Loving where we at. Go Bucs!!!!!!
April 29th, 2016 at 11:34 pm
I really dont know how some of you arent GMs. I mean your logic is so sound. And clearly you have major inside sources to know all the stuff you swear to know.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:34 pm
@Db55
We should’ve had to picks to start off day 3 but….
April 29th, 2016 at 11:35 pm
What was our kicker history last season? I don’t think it started well.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:35 pm
Nothing was wrong with the pick it’s just that he jumped of 15 spots lmao and gave up a 4th
April 29th, 2016 at 11:36 pm
But what. Do we not iamkingsu? We traded 1 of our early fourth round picks. Not both. What’s your point?
April 29th, 2016 at 11:36 pm
Really liked our draft – then we draft a kicker in the 2nd round after a trade up…? wow – I think our GM started drinking
wonder how many war rooms laughed out loud on that one….
April 29th, 2016 at 11:39 pm
“And I’m Just ITCHING to tell you about them”
“Everyone has such wonderful fun!”
“Seafood CockTails, Crabs, Crayfish”
April 29th, 2016 at 11:39 pm
The point is for the mentally disabled. Would rather have 2 picks or 1 pick??
April 29th, 2016 at 11:40 pm
Oh lord we jumped up 10 to 15 spots to get a game changer. Fire everyone. Lmao
April 29th, 2016 at 11:40 pm
@db55
I meant two not to
April 29th, 2016 at 11:41 pm
@bama
The game changer would’ve still been there lol. That’s my point.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:42 pm
Who likes losing by three or less? Ain’t going to happento often now! Just get the ball to the 45 Jameis )…..!
April 29th, 2016 at 11:42 pm
You can draft a kicker in 6th rd or waiver wire. They are relatively cheap. We have no depth at dt and below average safeties. Those players can’t be found late in the draft or on a waiver. Dumb move. Framing billings and reed and bell were there Boyd too. Nobody ever trades up into the 2nd rd for a kicker it just doesn’t happen.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:42 pm
You said we don’t have a pick but we do. We got s free one in the first round
April 29th, 2016 at 11:43 pm
I’ve been posting on here since 2009.
And I’ve seen a lot of dumb moves.
This is another one. Not even Raheem Morris would do this.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:44 pm
That’s a game changer!
April 29th, 2016 at 11:44 pm
Ask Tom Brady and Bill Belichick if a great kicker is worth it. Viniteri won them 2 super bowls.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:48 pm
Is that you Pablo?
April 29th, 2016 at 11:49 pm
Its better draft pick than Dexter Jackson tho.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:49 pm
I don’t see how moving up for a game changer within 10 to 15 picks is a reach or bad move when we got the free 4th and still got our guy in the first and the nations top locker was projected in the 3rd rd. It might be a shocker but you all will come around or just be stubborn and not admit it was worth it.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:51 pm
Not Pablo, I’m an actual Spanish Buc fan.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:51 pm
I’ve been living here since 1990. But since you’ve been posting since ’09 idk if I’m worthy. But I see a need filled with a quality player. Everyone must’ve had a rough week, lot of hormones leading to delusional whoa-is-me typical hater posts…no one will ever be satisfied. We could trade for JJ watt and someone would find a way to complain
April 29th, 2016 at 11:52 pm
It always seems like the FSU/UF players get the most scrutiny
April 29th, 2016 at 11:57 pm
OH yeah the kicker won the Super Bowls.
Sure he did.
April 29th, 2016 at 11:58 pm
Sorry Spanish. Sin faltar el respeto previsto
April 29th, 2016 at 11:59 pm
Ok nick t/dick, Bo Jackson pick for the record was the worst draft in bucs history because we did him dirty, to this day when it’s mentioned his eyes go fire. As far as you and your licht homers, bucs blew every pick so far this yr. could’ve taken tunsil at 11 and Jamis would have blindside protection for a decade. Instead we take an undersized corner to go with our other undersized corner. Took a drug addict in t/second, I’m sure all the kids will want to grow up just like him, way to add a good character guy there licht, then waste a few picks for a kicker. But you keep the love because the rest of the experts and grown up fans are howling with laughter at us.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:00 am
Lol Couch. FSU fans before the draft. ” Ew I don’t want Hargreaves” Then we pick Aquayyo in the second and it is the second coming ……Smh
April 30th, 2016 at 12:00 am
Lmao
April 30th, 2016 at 12:02 am
I am trying to figure out how a kicker is a game changer for a team that gave up 70% completions…and zero pass rush. We need depth every where – throwing a dart anywhere is better than a kicker
Trying to think of a bad team growing and adding depth – then drafting a Kicker in the 2nd round. How has that panned out?
The most clutch kicker I can think of is –
In 1996, Vinatieri was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent to be a placekicker. He played in New England for the first 10 years of his NFL career, during which he played in four Super Bowls, winning three titles
I’d like to think our GM had enough confidence in his staff to possibly draft a real game changer for his really thin team.
We move on – its only football – but a really bad move…can’t wait for his contract to come up and we let him go because we can’t afford it.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:03 am
pan haha cmon? You’re kidding right? You’re a blast tho, names tunsil: yet you complain spence was a drug addict
April 30th, 2016 at 12:05 am
It’s all about risk. 3rd round picks bust at a 70% clip. 4th rounders at a 80% clip. I get that we took him high and could have gotten other players, but some of you guys are acting like we traded HOF’ers for him. The draft is a crapshoot as it is. Why not take the player whose position is the easiest to translate to the NFL game. The percentages show that those picks we used will probably bust anyway. And the 4th we used to move up was the pick that we stole from the Bears due to them getting their BrownEyes OWNED by Licht.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:06 am
Needs: CB, dline, s, wr, oline kicker
FA: 1de, 2cb, 1 g
Draft: Best cover CB, best edge rusher, best kicker
Man I’d hate to be so bitter in my life
April 30th, 2016 at 12:07 am
@bama
He was going to be there in the 3rd. Just like marpet (out of div 3 Hobart) would’ve been there and Kwon Alexander would’ve been there when we selected them last year. I have no problem with any of those picks. Its just a pattern with licht he’s paranoid.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:12 am
We did this cause the touchback rule “might” change?
What???????
April 30th, 2016 at 12:15 am
Kid has Youth working for him. At the NFl level he will continue to develop his craft and better strength in his legs. Conner Barth missed a lot of kicks last year folks. If this kid keeps his head on straight, he will pay off for us in the tight games. Don’t think he is a gamble at all. Hell, we might even start winning a lot of those close games. Yes, Mike Johnson is down with this pick!
April 30th, 2016 at 12:17 am
@iamkingsu we moved back into the 2nd last year bc Marpet wasn’t going to be thee when we picked in the 3rd. Obviously Licht thought the same about Roberto.
I think it’s a reach too, but if they had a 3rd round grade on him what’s the difference. We only have up an extra 4th.
Would have been better if we could have got him in round 3 and then used our two 4th rounders to move back into round 3.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:18 am
Speaking for Pablo
“Pablo is happy that Hason has big cajones….Pablo loves this pick.”
April 30th, 2016 at 12:18 am
Wow! I started drinking a bit early on this fine Friday afternoon so I fell asleep around pick 48. Imagine my surprise when I woke up and saw this! I am totally psyched! Been watching this man for a few years in total awe of his consistancy. Great job Licht!
April 30th, 2016 at 12:19 am
I am going to add this:
Other than the fact that it was a fantastic pick remember he also wanted to be a Buc, just like Hargreaves. With this they are also fixing that locker room chaos left behind last season. They have players WANTING to play here. They have players that are good friends with our leader Jameis.
That was a very important thing that needed fixing. The locker room mentality and the lack of players wanting to be a Buccaneer.
So it’s a win win all around, and those that don’t see that the locker room culture didn’t need fixing with players that WANT to play and Want to play as a Buccaneer.
I’m beyond excited for the picks so far..remember the Bucs let go 8 players today, meaning we have a lot more room..
And funny, so many user names are people I haven’t ever seen here before..
April 30th, 2016 at 12:19 am
Just do a little research – our GM is not perfect – he started drinking early and made a mistake…how many real game changers did we pass on to take a kicker.
Aguayo left school a year early, but he already earned his degree and was the most accurate kicker in college football, so there wasn’t a lot left to prove.
He’s the highest-drafted kicker since Mike Nugent went in the second round (47th overall) in 2005.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:22 am
@unbeleivable
Yes Marpet was going to be there lol He had a great senior bowl but he played at division 3 Hobart. He was the first div 3 player to be drafted in the 1st 2 rounds ever. It’s just Licht. Turn on nfl network right now they are laughing at us. Because they know it was an unnecessary move
April 30th, 2016 at 12:27 am
Problem to me is the opportunity cost. Would love to take a flyer on someone like the German kid, Boehringer. 225 lb. wideouts with 4.43 speed do not grow on trees. Sure, he played low level competition and will probably wash out. But well worth a 5th rounder, say, to play special teams and develop.
But throwing away a 4th (on Arroyo) and a 5th (on George Johnson) means we don’t have the quantity of picks needed.
Even if this works out, it still will be disappointing.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:32 am
Right because the analysts are always right. More sound logic from the future GMs. Dont use your own brain, watch the people on TV theyll tell you all the right moves. LMAO.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:35 am
Because, he loves AC/DC.
Stupidity is weirdly undying
April 30th, 2016 at 12:36 am
LifeOfABucsFan, that’s a good point I hadn’t thought of. The chemistry of this team is starting to lean Jameis’ way. We need players who have passion and want to be here!
April 30th, 2016 at 12:39 am
Lou, Boehringer will probably go undrafted. If we want to keep him from the Vikings, we’d have to take him in the 6th round.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:42 am
The Patriots had two straight picks after the Cheifs picked… They missed an extra point in the AFC championship game. I know we traded up, but we didn’t give up anything we didn’t have two days ago. I really do believe Licht sniped him from the Patriots.
Think about it, if the Patriots were to use a 3rd round pick on the all time most accurate kicker in NCAA history no one would bat an eye..
This is a high-stakes, ballsy move not doubt, but on paper the Bucs drafted arguably the best (or in Aguayos case, most definitely) the best player at on the board and fulfilled a major needs. The best pure cover corner, the best pure pass rusher, and the best pure placekicker in years for your first three picks and a little grit in round one.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:49 am
Everyone for the kicker tell me – when has drafting a kicker in the 2nd round worked out for that team…
Side Note – who plays safety for this team? Who is our 2nd WR next year?
Depth depth depth – AKA Tom Brady in the 6th round
You know his GM buddy in Tennessee is going to TOTALLY give him the business about this pick….I sense lots of laughing – maybe even snot out of the nose laughing – then he’ll buy him a drink and thank him or leaving a real lottery ticket on the board for Tennessee
April 30th, 2016 at 12:51 am
I’m a panther fan living in bucs territory and I just love the kicker pick almost as much as the spud you picked up in the first, bejamain will swat hargraves like a tiny LITTLE nat. Besides I wouldn’t worry to much about using that kicker, first off he can’t hit from outside 35 yds, and let’s be real here, you first have to get in scoring position, so unless there’s a big bag of crab legs at the goal line your never gonna see that kicker utilized, but no it’s a great 2nd rd pick. Just listen to all the experts. hahahahahaha same ole bucs.

LifeOfABucsFan, that’s a good point I hadn’t thought of. The chemistry of this team is starting to lean Jameis’ way. We need players who have passion and want to be here!
————————
Yep..someone else mentioned it on another board..wording it so much better than I did…but if the chemistry in the locker room wasn’t getting fixed, that cancer would have kept spreading. ALL the draftees have a connection for Tampa Bay or for Jameis..and I think this is going to be the trend for the rest of the draft..
Made me wonder earlier, if maybe that’s why they didn’t resign Danny Lansannah??? Maybe someone else can fill this in….

At least incompetent Lovie Smith isn’t around to muddy the waters about who’s calling the personnel shots.
Former lapdog is feeling his oats and I can appreciate that. I am a fan of a kicker as of today. Been a while. Viva Grammatica!
Go Bucs

Greg Hardy is not being signed by Dallas…it’s official..
April 30th, 2016 at 1:00 am
I’m sorry, I shouldn’t pick on the lowly bucs, you havent won in such a long time your getting a little desperate. Keep rocking those special teams, someone should let your GM know Demarcus Russell is still out there, maybe you can use your 4th or 5th on him.
April 30th, 2016 at 1:07 am
Geez. Everyone here seems to have more inside information than the front offices that get paid millions of dollars to do their job. These NFL owners must be crazy to spend that much when we have so many connected people on this website’s comment boards
April 30th, 2016 at 1:27 am
NFL Network laughing at us? Who cares? You can’t be a leader or a winner by following the herd. If Aguayo is close to as good as he was in college, he will be one of our leading scorers for years to come. All we gave up was a free pick that we got from Chicago and drafted the best kicker in college football with our 3rd rounder. Very smart! Jason Licht and team are doing a fantastic job again in this years draft. All you guys with your “you dont draft a kicker” nonsense are way off on this one. Special teams is a huge part of the game and having an elite kicker is extremely valueable.
April 30th, 2016 at 1:28 am
If some how DT Andrew Billings falls 10 spots or a trade up it would make the 2nd round kicker easier to swallow, he’s a 1st round talent no idea why he’s still available
April 30th, 2016 at 1:33 am
The Bucs didn’t give up a 3rd and a 4th round pick. They essentially lost a 4thround pick, As the 3rd rounder was probably going to get the kicker anyway. There is nobody I was interested in between where they picked in the 2nd and where KC ended up picking in the 3rd. Lot of picks after KC that I wish didn’t happen. I think Glennon Alterraun Verner and/or Jonathan banks are 4th round pick trade bait.
April 30th, 2016 at 1:49 am
I think Roberto is going to have a great career with the Bucs. I just hope Braxton Miller sucks since that’s who I wanted there after Shepard and Boyd went. Wanted Roberto in the 5th but come on that was not going to happen. I will take the bet that Roberto is more likely a 10- 15 year starter and All Pro than Braxton. Got a feeling it will work out. I would feel a lot better if we can land Andrew Billings or Sheldon Day at DT early tommorow. Can’t find anything why Billings is dropping.
Really wanted to move up in the 2nd for Shepard but he went too soon. Could of lived with Boyd or Braxton. We really need to find a WR in the 5th or 6th with some speed to play the slot. WR is now our weakest position.
Finally get me baby Gronk or Vitale at FB in the 6th and I will feel great about this draft.
April 30th, 2016 at 1:58 am
Dudes, im of the mind that this defense is not too far away even before the draft. You dont get shredded by 3 or 4 scores often because of talent at this level, its mainly coaching.
Def. Not weak at linebacker between kwon and david
Certainly not soft on the inside with mccoy or Mcdonald
Secondary has some quality starters that need to be arranged
When it comes down to DE i personally think jaq smith is about to put it all together. Sometimes it takes a minute. Check out James Harrison for a recent example.
You got 2 new DEs added between free agency and at least 1 starter already on the roster. Solid rotation to give a shot too.
With the kicker….weird pick but definitely seems like a situation of low risk high reward here.
Plus you cant tell me you dont love Gramatica Automatica. This guy even looks like hes his replacement.
April 30th, 2016 at 2:06 am
Buc you says..excellent post..best one to read before bedtime..
Another round tomorrow and Licht has some tricks up his sleeve..we have some bait coming up!
Goodnight my fellow buc fans…
April 30th, 2016 at 2:19 am
Move Banks to safety and we upgrade that position. DT’s Billings or Day at our 4th pick. Move up with one of the 6th’s if you have too. This would make everyone feel better about the whole draft. Let’s get value the rest of the way. Need at least one more starter.
Draft baby Gronk or Vitale at FB and with Billings or Day we could have 5 starters.
April 30th, 2016 at 2:47 am
Billings or Day + Cooper Pharoh + baby gronk or a safety.
April 30th, 2016 at 2:58 am
I like Cooper also but wish he was faster. Comes up big when you need him. Don’t think he will last till our 5th rounder. As much as I want another receiver, Billings or Day is the proper pick.
April 30th, 2016 at 4:10 am
Billings, Ridgeway or Day at DT
Houston-Carson at FS
Howard or Dixon at RB
Boehm at OC
Hogan at QB
QB? Damn right. Glennon’s a goner and Licht learned from BB to draft a good QB prospect every few years. Wouldn’t surprise me.
April 30th, 2016 at 4:13 am
Geez…. passed on Vonn Bell and Braxton Miller?
I sure hope Powell is still on the board when they pick next!
Gotta get that other OSU safety, he’s just as good as Bell, then I might be able to swallow this move!
April 30th, 2016 at 4:20 am
Receivers
01. Chris Moore, Cincinnati, WR
02. Jakeem Grant, TTECH, WR
03. Kolby Listenbee, TCU, WR
04. Aaron Burbridge, Michigan St., WR

In Licht We Trust!

The Bucs would have been 8 and 8 last year with Bobby on the roster. Every year there will be a game or two that will hinge on his leg. It appears that some here have forgotten or never knew when our kicker missed 5 out of 6 very make able attempts. That won’t happen again. We “needed” a kicker. We got the best one available. As for other “needs”, we needed better coaches with better schemes. We already got that. Tha’s a drastic improvement over the last 4 decades. The Bucs have had great defenses in the past. They’ve never had a great offense to go along with it. With these coaches, I believe we soon will.it never hurts to be solid on special teams as well. A great kicker is key to that. A 3rd or 4th round player at any other position rarely has more of an impact than a dependable kicker. Licht knows that. Koetter knows that. Some posters here don’t. Licht and Koetter are paid for their opinions. Their jobs depend on making the right choices. So far, I believe they have.
April 30th, 2016 at 6:06 am
I laugh at the moronic posts here. The NFL today, probably 4 games on your schedule are decided by 3 points or less. I look at NE, Vinatieri won them 3 Superbowls, but kickers don’t mean squat, or worth a 2nd round pick. Uhhhhhhhh, this kids motion and delivery is identical to Vinatieri, high off the foot, end over end kicks, they don’t hook or slice. We lost 2-3 games last year because of kicking. But we don’t need that position at all, why would you draft the most accurate kicker in ncaa history when you lost 2-3 games because of your kicking. The other 7 games lost where 4 probably on secondary, we drafted a hell of a man corner, and the other 3.on lack of pass rush, oh we addressed that to. Man you guys are right, WE ABSOLUTELY HAVE SCREWED THIS DRAFT UP. We have not got any players we need to help us win. Crap, I’m so sorry, your right Licht should be fired.
April 30th, 2016 at 6:30 am
Walter football is comparing this move to the bone-headed moves Matt Millen used make when he was Lyons GM. I agree with him.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Roberto Aguayo, K, Florida State KICK THE KIELBASA INTO THE BACKSIDE MILLEN Grade
Oh, man. I’m always giddy when I get to give out a Millen grade, and this was a Millen grade if I’ve ever seen one. Look, I get that kickers are more important now, and I understand that Roberto Aguayo projects as a great kicker. But, come on. Another team that really needed Aguayo was planning on taking him in the fourth round, which would’ve been justified. The Buccaneers grabbed him in the second – and surrendered a fourth to move up to get him! Who were the Buccaneers leaping to get a kicker? Why would they make such a stupid decision like this!?
April 30th, 2016 at 6:35 am
Joe, I have a feeling you’ve been doing some advertising for this site at Trump rallies lately. Some of these folks on here are that special and dangerous mix of angry and dumb. Kudos to you though for diverting their attention from rioting at hotels to talk about a sport that they clearly are not familiar with.
April 30th, 2016 at 6:55 am
Bar Maid! A shot of Jameson & a pint of Guinness please!!
A brilliant pick Jason!!! ROBERTOOOOOOO!!!!!
April 30th, 2016 at 7:15 am
Never how we traded up to get Marpet last year? Ahead of the Patriots! Just did it again baby! Whooo
April 30th, 2016 at 7:21 am
Great pick. With every pick in the second round, I was worried some other team would take him. Yeah, it’s unusually high for a kicker. He’s not a usual kicker. Did any of you that are angry ever watch him play? As a devout gator fan, I hated him. I hated him because he’s a GREAT kicker. I didn’t hate him because he sucked. Welcome to Tampa. I couldn’t be happier with this draft.
April 30th, 2016 at 7:51 am
@newbuc2
Kicking FG from 45 yard line is 57 yard attempt.Aguayo is money inside the 40.40 yard attempts mean ball is snapped from 28 yard line. Greedy Bob wants TD’s when you get that close the redzone.
that said kickoffs and point after will also be a big part of Aguayo’s game.
April 30th, 2016 at 8:07 am
if Aguayo can become money within the 50,then Licht may add to his draft
legend status.
April 30th, 2016 at 8:44 am
Good kicker? Yeah. Worth 2 picks? I don’t know…. We have needs at WR and Safety still and now we’re stuck with 4th round talent. We did find Kwon there last year. I trust that Lichte will find another gem
April 30th, 2016 at 9:16 am
You guys just don’t get it. We gave up nothing!! We gave up a 4th round pick that we got because we moved back and picked up the guy we were going to get at #9 anyway. We didn’t give up a 3rd round pick, we upfront the pick to a second round pick using another pick that we got for free. If we’d picked Aguayo in the third round nobody would have batted an eye. We used our 3rd round pick to get him, we just used it in the second round to ensure that we for him. Get a clue people
April 30th, 2016 at 10:43 am
Good point Patrick, most of the criticism is coming from trolls who would flame whomever the Bucs pick anyhow!
April 30th, 2016 at 11:12 am
Actually a field goal from the 45 yard line is more like a 62 yard attempt.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:51 pm
I want a holder with the next pick…you know they are starting to keep stats on the laces being out….that percentage has got to be top notch if we’re gonna wun another Superbowl.
April 30th, 2016 at 1:26 pm
Patrick in Va. If we had picked him in third we would still have the other 4th and they all count so YES we did give up an extra pick. WE also made a bad pick at that point, too many other pressing needs.
