Koetter: Grimes Education Starts In April
April 2nd, 2016The influence of the Bucs’ new four-time Pro Bowler, Brent Grimes, should go far beyond what he does on Sundays this year.
Joe asked Dirk Koetter about this last week at the NFL Owners Meetings.
Not surprising, Joe’s question revolved around America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, learning from Grimes on a daily basis.
Koetter answered but took Grimes’ impact a step further.
“In OTAs, you’re going your first offense against your first defense,” Koetter said. “In OTAs, there’s not a lot of running the football, it’s mostly the passing game. So, you know, on one side of the ball, every time Jameis takes a rep, he’s going to have Brent Grimes on one side. So going against better competition brings out the best in your players. I think it not only will help Jameis get better, it will help our receivers, as well.”
Yes, talent and greatness can rub off and affect a team, as can the infection of incessant losing, something the Bucs have battled since the 2010 season.
Remember, Koetter knows Grimes as the guy Matt Ryan was scared of in practice. That was years ago, though. Hopefully, 32-year-old Grimes still resembles that same player.

From everything I’ve heard and seen from Jameis he doesn’t back down from a challenge. Which is why he is our leader on the field. He’s going to love this. I also would like to think Verner and Banks will be taking notes and hopefully fulfilling expectations. Should be a fun season ahead!

How refreshing it must be to have a HC who not only answers the question directly, but adds to it. I like this guy and expect it won’ take him long to set franchise records with the Bucs. We’ve never had a great offense and a great defense at the same time. I think that’s about to change.

Has the season started yet….:) ? hell, I’d be happy with OTA’s. Well, I guess we do have the draft to look forward to pretty soon!
Go Bucs… can’t wait to see how this next season shakes out!! Exciting! Jameis and company are in the house!!

Hell, Who isn’t Matt Ryan afraid of? The guy sucks! So glad we have Jameis, and not some stiffassed bore, that falls to pieces the minute the pocket breaks down like Ryan.

I do hope we can get at least 2 quality years out of Grimes. He is aging. And I hope we spend more than half of our draft picks on the Defense..like we have done on offense for 2 years!

Gald to hear that, cheers Bucs fans! Going out myslef tonight going to see Dwight Yokem in Hiawassee Ga, and camping out to celebrate my 50th Birthday. I will have a drink or three for each of you Bucs fans.
Good way to sharpen our QB to the realities of a better than average CB lurking on every pass that comes his way. I think it also will help our other CB’s and WR’s to bring their best game every play in OTA’s, mini camps, training camp, weekly practice during the season. Growing more excited ro see what we have in our newest Head Coach and his coaching staff.
Go Bucs!

Most interested in the battle between Evans and Grimes. Hoping Evans can learn some tricks of the trade from the seasoned pro-bowler. Visions of Rice v Sanders, should be some entertaining practices.

Yeah assuming Grimes stays healthy he is gonna play for a few more yeara… Regardless… Verner and Banks are gonna bounce back this year no doubt… I think they had poor attitudes about the systems last year along with everyone else after the first penalty of the season on D last year…
Once we get.Mo from the Jets the only weakness if you wanna call it one will be our safeties…. But chances are they won’t matter cause the QB won’t have time to throw deep and our safeties will be able to creep and play the slants and run… Or help the rush…
JL PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE find a way to get Mo from the Jets!!!!!!!!
And get Jamies some help so he would look to bad in practice…. Lord knows I don’t wanna spend all training camp hear about all the ints again!!!
Please
