Jameis Love

Getting props from two former NFL stars.

Getting props from two former NFL stars.

Joe understands Bucs fans grumble about the coverage, or the lack thereof, on NFL Network. Well, times are a changin.’

Part of the increased visibility of the Bucs on the NFL Network, and its little sister NFL Now, is because of none other than America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. And when the wins begin rolling in, the coverage will only increase.

Just days after Maurice Jones-Drew, the former Jags stud running back and current NFL Network/NFL Now/SiriusXM Radio talking head, exclaimed the Bucs would have had the first pick in the draft again without everyone’s favorite Muscle Hamster, Doug Martin, MJD reversed field and sang hosannas for Jameis  on TV.

In a chat with former Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor, the duo pick three players on the verge of superstardom. The first player mentioned is Jameis.

Maurice Jones-Drew: He is going to become a star because this is his second year with these types of weapons, Ike: Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson , Doug Martin, Austin Seferian-Jenkins. [It’s] only year two with these guys.

Ike Taylor: He’s just a natural leader. He looks like he is fun to be around. He’s a natural guy. He understands what it takes. He’s built like your uncle. He’s a dark-skinned version of Ben Roethlisberger. Everybody talks good about this dude.

It is amazing to hear current and former NFLers talk about Jameis, from Warren Sapp and John Lynch to now MJD, they love the guy. You read what Taylor said; he’s never met Jameis but he is clearly getting feedback from other current and former players.

Joe will never forget Super Bowl media night in San Jose in January. To a man, every Stinking Panthers player Joe talked to said the next great NFL quarterback rivalry once Peyton Manning and/or Tom Brady retired would be Cam Newton and Jameis.

Manning, in case you missed it, has since retired.

Jus the schedule alone not being filled with all 1 oclock games shows the league knows what time it is!!!!!

  2. DemBoysFromDaBay727 Says:

Jameis is.most certainly on his way to being a super star in this league. That’s for sure. Then maybe we will start getting sum respect from the NFL network. Rarely do you hear them mention the “Boyz from the bay” but that is changing. We finally have a “SUPERSTAR!”

MAN that is nice to say. And I can easily see Winston vs. Newton being the next best rivalry. Wich will bring us plenty of prime time games in the future. Still can’t believe the bucs haven’t been chosen to play on Sunday night football since 2008. That’s sum bullsh*t right there. But That all changes soon because the bucs will start demanding respect from the league by showing that we ain’t no punks any more. And that starts this season. The Schedule isn’t in our favor but I guess we will see what there made of, I think we will be up for the challenge, and I certainlly know #3 is, that’s for sure. -GO BUCS

  3. Newbucsfan2 Says:

    Is it football season yet?!!!:)

  4. Newbucsfan2 Says:

I bet Jameis will show Cam(and the football world) a thing or two about acting like a true Pro! No pouting, storming off or throwing himself on the ground like a two year old. Can’t wait!

  5. Waterboy Says:

Hopefully all of his weapons can stay healthy this year and ASJ will at least make it 12 games for the first time in his NFL career.

  6. Danati Says:

It also started last year draft time when BSPN was playing the anti Jameis stuff regarding what happened at FSU. Jameis camp didnt really want to network with BSPN. Even on draft night the first interview went to the other broadcasting network. Now Jameis is killing it and all that stuff is behind him. He will be a star in this league.

  7. DoNUTS Says:

After I saw ASJ mentioned, I told myself whatever else he says has no validity…another talking head who is reading whatever they tell him.

  8. Pickgrin Says:

This is just the beginning stages of the national “Jameis Love”.

Within a couple years these talking heads are going to be gushing, fawning, oooohing and ahhhhing over America’s Quarterback on an almost daily basis.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

    Jameis.

  10. CalBucsFan Says:

The NFL’s SOS (strength of schedule) is a bunch of BS (#$%)! Makes no sense at all that a non-playoff team picking in the top 10 of the draft (Bucs) should be tied for the 5th toughest SOS for the upcoming season while the playoff GB Packers have the easiest at #32, even the Superbowl (&()&*) Champion Denver Broncos’ SOS is #14 and the Panthers is #12. Are you kidding’ me!!

I’ve been watching the NFL since games were broadcast in B&W and have seen every SuperBowl and year after year, the media just accepts how the NFL goes about creating schedules without calling it out for the corrupt money hungry it is. And all the media ever talks about is how teams need this player or that coach or a different scheme to become a winner, when more likely all they ever needed was for the idiots that determine schedules by SOS method be replaced by an upside down draft chart! The SB winners should have the toughest SOS and the team picking no. 1 in the draft have the easiest.

I know there will be those who disagree, but tell me, which gives all fans more hope of a enjoyable and perhaps winning season, a brutal SOS schedule before the season even begins, or one where most every game on schedule seems more like a ‘pick-em’ game?

I suppose those who would say keep the SOS system that’s in place now are the same ones who applaud college hoop schedules that pitted such a great rilvery this past fall as Duke vs. Elon (105-66, guess who won) or college football’s Alabama Crimson Tides’ vs. Charleston Southern Buccaneers (56-6).

How about at least spotting the underdog, in college or the pros, whatever the points are that come out of Vegas? At least then, it will seem like an underdog has a chance.

  11. The Buc Realist Says:

    @CalBucsfan

The Bucs strength of schedule last year was 29th!!!!

  12. Buc1987 Says:

Realist…then he has a valid point. We only won 4 more games and jump from 29th to 5th?

I mean it’s a good measure fro the team and all, but how does the team ever build momentum off the dregs of the NFL if they never play them?

I mean his GB point is VERY valid.

  13. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buc1987

My point is that the strength of schedule is “random” of the divisions that have been decided years in advance, and not a conspiracy or rigged!!!!

Being at the bottom of the division will always make strength of schedule harder, they should just show strength of conference when comparing,, look at Carolina down at 12 because they play us twice and the ATL and Saints!!!

  14. Tiny Tim Says:

    @ cal

The sos is random based on the division you play. What i mean is the nfc south teams all have to play the afc west teams and the nfc west teams. I havent looked at the packers schedule but their division could be playing against the afc south and nfc east. Those two divisions as of last year was not as good as the two divisions as the nfc south has to play this year. The nfl rotates the divisional matchups to give fans of all teams to matchup against each other at least once every four years. Their are only two games that are played based on your record from the previous year. The bucs finished last in the division and that is why we play the cowboys and chicago because they did the same. The saints will play the third place team from that division and so on. I hope this clarifies thing.

  15. Pickgrin Says:

There is no favoritism in NFL scheduling. Its not a conspiracy dude. WTF?

Its a very set formula that alternates which division each division team plays every year. We happen to be playing the AFC West and the NFC west this year – just like all the other teams in the NFC South. So we have to play a # of good teams like the Seahawks and the Cardinals and the Broncos and the Chargers this year.

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

I can see the setup already. Bucs lose because of schedule. EXCUSES. If the new regime is all of that..like many who post here believe, Then..WIN!! Its that simple. I want less adulation and verbalization..and more implementation baby. WIN..and you get the praises. Until then? Jameis Winston is just a QB who had a decent season on a Losing team. He has done nothing yet. And the same applies to the new coaching staff. And Yes..I said it!

  17. Tiny Tim Says:

Mike johnson we get it…..you don’t like jameis. Do you have to say he has done nothing on every thread regardless of topic?

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

Tiny Tim..Never said I did not like Jameis. I just think he’s only played one season in the NFL. You’d think from the postings here, this guy is a Peyton Manning/Tom Brady. One season is not all world. Put together 5 to 10 great seasons then your resume speaks for itself. All of the adulation is definitely premature. That’s all I’m saying. I think he’s gonna be great sure. But he’s not great yet. Same applies to the new coaching regime. They have done absolutely nothing yet but smile and talk. WINNING is all that matters in the NFL. Everything else in my opinion is secondary.

  19. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Tiny Tim

JW3 spoke well and endorsed Head Coach Koetter,,, That is why mike johnson is doing his backhanded comments at JW3!!!!

  20. unbelievable Says:

    Every mike Johnson post ever:

“These coaches have to prove themselves”
“This team hasn’t proved anything yet”
    “JW hasn’t proved anything yet”
“The honeymoon is over, they better win games, I haven’t seen any improvement yet”

We get it bro. You know it’s still the offseason right? I’m sure there’s an Illinois fan site you can go to to talk about how much their coach has proved.

  21. DB55 Says:

    If we gonna do it….

    If you skrong….

    All we do is …..

  22. Tiny Tim Says:

    @ mike

We know its only been one season but that does not mean we as fans should not be excited based off one year. It was obvious michael jordan was going to be a problem after only one year. You did not need to wait 5 to ten years to see that. Jameis has the talent, mindset and most importantly the work ethic required to be great just like Jordan and manning. His hard work will pay off just like it has for so many others in all professions. You can wait 5 to 10 if you want to. I and many other fans will live in the moment and celebrate the journey as it goes along with excitement and anticipation.

BTW…you have that Big dog duemig thing going on. You know, when he says he likes jameis yet he poo poos on all of his accomplishments like throwing for 4,000 yards is meaningless or pro bowl selection isn’t legit yada yada yada. People can see through that you know.

  26. Tiny Tim Says:

I figured it out. You can’t mention the “dean’s” name in your post. Sorry if my previous post comes through three times. I was trying to figure out why my post was awaiting moderation.

  27. Buc1987 Says:

Oh I know it has nothing to do with being rigged.

I’m saying it shouldn’t BE this way.

So Cal is right. Green Bay should not have a weaker schedule than the Bucs. I guess that’s the only way to do it tough. If your division opponents suck, it’s not your fault I suppose.

I mean the Lions, and Bears are pretty crappy, but probably equal to the Saints and Falcons imo.

  28. Mike Johnson Says:

Unbelievable and fakiest..I mean realist, Thanks for the compliments. keep’em coming. Lets me know You do read my post! I’ll continue to be the voice of skepticism and cautious optimism here. All our Bucs have done is lose for many seasons. WIN..and I might just..change me tune!

  29. Buc1987 Says:

LOL Tim LOL…nothing like trying to find that word huh?

  30. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

“…the next great NFL quarterback rivalry once Peyton Manning and/or Tom Brady retired would be Cam Newton and Jameis.” – Joe

    Man…that sounds good to me!

Btw…it’s time someone said it and meant it.

    Joe knows quarterbacks.

    For real.

  31. Mike Johnson Says:

Ohh and Tiny Tim/ I’m feeling yas. Thanks for the explanation. But me having been a Bucs fan since inception who attended games during those inaugural seasons, I’m not as Up about the Bucs as you are. But you do have the right to be. And that’s fine. Been there done that. Yes, I am a fan. But I don’t cheer until victory is won. I shall await the new product on the field.

  32. Buc1987 Says:

    Mike…take your meds.

  33. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @Mike Johnson

Nothing wrong with being skeptical, especially in the off season. Get it all out of your system.

I’m a “props when props are earned” kind of guy myself.

  34. Howard Cosell Says:

    The future is NOW!
sCam has already shown his fear if Winston by snatching a JW3 jersey out of the hands of a fan and tossing it on the ground in front of TV cameras and world.
Winston is like sCam but without the pouting.

You remember back in school there was that bully? He picked on a whole string of kids over the years, then in the 7th grade he tries to mess with this quiet nice kid, and then the quiet nice kid knocked him out.

  35. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Here’s how I view the team right this minute:

Head Coach…I like Koetter, and wanted him in Tampa before Mike Smith was fired in Atlanta. While Lovie was on the hot seat, I said I would be in favor of firing Lovie IF we had to in order to keep Koetter. We did.

DC…I like Mike Smith. The only thing I don’t like about him is the coaching up chop blocks. Hopefully, the new rules will prevent that.

Actually, I like all of the staff now. No complaints at all. Hated Frazier being hired from day one. Glad he is gone.

Free Agents. I didn’t care for most of the signings, except for depth. The problem is, some are supposed to be starters. I don’t think most of them will work out…at least of the current batch.

Martin…I’m glad he’s staying. I still have my concerns that he’ll coast or get injured now that he got his money, but I’m hoping for the best.

CBs…I’m actually happy going into this year with what we have, provided we get a dominant dline up and running.

Sweezy…big gamble, and given Licht’s record in free agency, a reckless gamble.

Really, that covers everything. The team hasn’t actually been improved since the season ended, except for coaching and development. That will change in a couple weeks.

  36. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

In fact…other than coaching changes and the further development of players already here…please, someone tell me how the team has improved since the season ended.

  37. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @Howard Cosell

Winston seems nice…but he ain’t anywhere near quiet, lol.

  38. Joe Says:

Why are my post awaiting moderation?

There was a word in both attempts that Joe has flagged because folks cannot behave. You did nothing wrong. No need to apologize.

  39. Pickgrin Says:

Bonzai – Grimes, Ayers, Daryl Smith and Sweezy all had good to very good years in 2015. Grimes has been to the Pro Bowl the last 3 straight years. Daryl Smith has the 5th most tackles in the entire league over the last 3 years. Ayers had more sacks last year in 12 games than any player on our team.

What makes you think we didn’t get better in Free Agency? That contention sounds like more of the infamous “Bonzai analysis” to me – aka way off base analysis.

I’m sure you stand by your “analysis” though – so maybe I should re-post the novella you wrote about this time last year detailing what a terrible quarterback Jameis Winston is and why we shouldn’t draft him….

  40. Louis Says:

Let’s face it folks …the NFC south has the best starting qb rivalry wrapped up in one division…no other division has 4 solid starting qbs like the NFC south!

  41. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Go Bucs!

  42. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Bonzai I respect most of your words but I’m wit Pickgrin on this one.

  43. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Its some Gangstas on jbf, you gotta think about it before you press send. If you don’t someone may clap back at ya.

  44. Buc1987 Says:

Pickgrin….lol Bonzai used to be a homer.

    JBF must have hardened him.

  45. feelthepewterpower Says:

NFL is trying to get the rivalry started with the MNF game!

  46. DemBoysFromDaBay727 Says:

    @MIKE Johnson

The reason we put Jameis on a peddle stool is because he is our savior. We’ve desperately been needing someone like him tovcome save this franchise since, we’ll,… FOREVER!! And we haven’t seen one till now. If you are a real football fan and know football like I do then u would be able to tell that this guy is the REAL DEAL. I can safely say that without any doubt in my mind. Yes I know it’s only one season, but I can see when a player has “IT” and Jameis most certainly does. If you can’t see that by now, then you must be blind.

We are witnessing a superstar being born here in da Bay. This guy eats, breathes, and sh*t$ football. He is a football junkie and is obsessed with getting better and becoming the very best at what he does. And most of all he is a WINNER. this guy HATES loosing! He is changing the loosing culture we have here in Tampa.

You can doubt him all you want, there’s always gonna be ppl like you out there and that just gives him more motivation to work harder.

  47. Mike Johnson Says:

WHO..said I doubted him(Jameis)? You must listen to the Fox news Network where statements are uttered with no backup facts. I luv the way you boyz just open up other peoples mouths and..stuff words into them.

  48. LargoBuc Says:

Jameis gave us a higher level of play under center in just his rookie year, than any qb to ever take a snap in franchise history. Jameis’ praise has been earned. Of course, it dosent mean much heading into the season. But I have no reason to beleive Jameis will regress.

  49. DemBoysFromDaBay727 Says:

    @M.Johnson

-“Jameis is just a QB who had a decent season on a loosing team. He has done nothing yet.”

That’s sounds like doubt to me. It also sounds like a guy who doesn’t like the bucs and is trying to validate that point.

Did you forget that he had just a “decent” season while being a rookie and his no. 2 and 3 options were Dye and Humphries basically all year. While his no. 1 receiver had KY hands. he also made a practice squad TE look like a pro bowler in C.Brate.

Imagine what he’s gonna do,with sum real weapons. And he Will continue to improve his game every year. It’s scary to think how good this guy can become and if you can’t realize that already I don’t know what else to say.
