Hitting The Beach
April 11th, 2016Interesting workout tool the Bucs have at One Buc Palace. Maybe it has been there for a while and Joe never saw it before?
In the back fields at One Buc Palace, the Bucs have a sandpit built. And in that sandpit, as you can see from the video below, Bucs cornerbacks are working out on their dropback skills.
In the sand.
That brings Joe back a ways. Joe’s old high school coach (who played for Tom Landry, John Madden, Lou Holtz and Gene Stallings) used to have Joe’s high school team run sprints at a nearby lake beach. Said it would rapidly build up our leg muscles.
Many years later, Joe sees an NFL team uses the same theory. And not coincidentally, Joe’s old coach was a defensive back.
This video, shot today by the Bucs, put a smile on Joe’s face. In the video, new Bucs corner Brent Grimes is featured.

So glad to see the boys back in the field in any shape. 17 more days until Christmas!!

My only cause for concern of this is that i remember a while ago, during the Pro Bowl, they used to do beach flag football.
I also remember them cancelling that portion due to a player tearing an ACL (i believe it was)…

Hey Joes, I know you aren’t much into mocks but many of us would like to see you put out a 7 round mock just for the Bucs. Just an idea.

Gerald posted a video from in the sand at 1Buc last year…. c’mon man!!
April 11th, 2016 at 2:25 pm
Don’t recall seeing that at all.
April 11th, 2016 at 2:29 pm
If Joe does this, he will only do one. Not interested in changing and guessing every week. And you are right, not much of a mock guy outside of Mike Mayock’s lone mock.

You are correct wombat
On Instagram, defensive captain Gerald McCoy posted a video of him working on pass-rush drills with a weighted vest in a sand pit. “Live and love what you do!!,” McCoy posted, along with the video. “D-lineman have to live pass rush. Especially in today’s league (because) it is a passing league. Find a way to gain an advantage. Don’t just do the bags. In the Tampa heat, put ‘em in the sand, put on a helmet, put on a weight vest, get barefoot and go to work!! Preparing for hunting season!!”

I do like the idea but I would prefer they do it barefoot. Especially the corners if they’re gonna make those turns.

Whoever was to the left of Grimes looked much quicker and smoother in his moves!

Check out Anthony Bechts film session of Brent Grimes from last season. Duke looks just like Revis. Glad we grab those ten years of experience. He’s seen it all.

Nothing really conditions you legs like that sand bruh. Training for JC/Semi-Pro ball I can remember running plenty of defensive back drills, and gassers at La Jolla Cove & Solana Beach. More guys get hurt playing pick up games, and over training then anything.
