“Don’t Believe Any Of Them, Not Even Me.”
April 18th, 2016Those Stanford players are smart guys. That school full of Mensa freaks typically has more intelligent and studious athletes than, say, the higher educational institutions of the helmet-cracking SEC.
Stanford has a knack for producing tight ends, and there’s another in this year’s draft, Austin Hooper. At 6-4, 254 pounds, he’s more receiver than blocker, but he’s considered a versatile prospect who is extremely reliable and somewhat dangerous in the receiving game.
Hooper, projected as a second- or third-round pick, was interviewed on SiriusXM NFL Radio recently by Alex Marvez and Hall of Fame general manager Bill Polian. Hooper claimed one of the big pieces of advice he got for his pre-draft process was to avoid reading/listening to draft analysts.
Polian piped up quickly and interjected that Hooper got excellent advice. “Don’t believe any of them, not even me,” said Polian, who went on to say draft analysts are all doing creative guessing beyond the handful of top-shelf picks.
Joe had to laugh. Polian is handsomely a paid draft guru by ESPN and Sirius, and here he is telling everyone not to buy the snake oil.
Perhaps funnier to Joe is all the fans and various gurus who insist they have every last answer to the draft’s many riddles. Joe encounters far to many of those guys.

That’s pretty much Brate’s size, right? And he’s a HARVARD grad.
No need to look at Stanford when you have Harvard in the house.

Yeah, well, those fans that get on your nerves because they think they have all of the answers are the same people who pay your bills by coming to visit your site in mid April during the offseason. Just saying!

To me, if you are looking to upgrade the TE position. Either go big (Hunter Henry) or give the young guys you already have a chance. Why waste a pick on a project at a position that we have a few of them already? ASJ hasent shown nothing but random flashes along with a lot of stupid plays and injuries. Stocker is just average. Brate might be the best TE we have.

Licht is doing a good job.
Nobody has any idea who we are picking in the first round

I like Brate, and Stocker’s body seems to have finally caught up to the physical demands of an NFL season, and he’s become solid, if a little less than spectacular. It’s anyone’s guess as to whether ASJ is going to put it together, or when, but I like what we have at the position right now. I’d be on-board with drafting a project in the later rounds, but I wouldn’t invest anything above a sixth-round pick at the position this year.

JOE- exactly. That’s why I will rarely say “get this guy!!!!” Or “not him!!!”
I’ll offer opinion but at the end of the day I trust in licht n dirk n smith to get it right.
The last time I was emphatic about s player was to NOT take Johnny Football. Got one right anyway!

This year they can’t even figure out the first pick.
