Bucs Take Linebacker Devante Bond In 6th Round

April 30th, 2016

NCAA Football: Oklahoma vs Texas

With the 183rd overall pick, the Bucs snatched a linebacker coming off an injury.

Devante Bond missed four games last year for Oklahoma because of bum ankle. Joe figures the Bucs see him as a special teams prospect, as he’s an impressive athlete.

Per OUDaily.com:

Bond is quick in transition with the ability to shed blockers, but his ankle injury his senior season didn’t help out his draft stock. He was able to redeem himself with a good showing at the combine and pro day but will likely fall to the final round of the draft or become a free agent.

From the Oklahoma Unversity site:

2015
Played in nine games with five starts at outside linebacker … missed games against Kansas (10/31), Texas Tech (10/24), Kansas State (10/17) and Texas (10/10) due to injury … started in the Orange Bowl against Clemson (12/31) and recorded six tackles with a sack and pass breakup … produced five tackles, including 1.5 for loss, and a pass breakup in start at Oklahoma State (11/28) … recorded four tackles against TCU (11/21) … tallied eight tackles with 0.5 for loss and a fumble recovery at Baylor (11/14) … posted two tackles, including one for loss, in start against Iowa State (11/7) … started against West Virginia (10/3) and matched a career-high with six tackles, including 1.0 TFL  … blocked a field goal and had three tackles against Tulsa (9/19) … started at Tennessee (9/12) with a career-high 2.0 sacks, one forced fumble and five total tackles … made four tackles against Akron (9/5)

The Bucs are converting Bond to a DE.
