Bucs Hook DE Noah Spence In Round 2
April 29th, 2016Generation Jameis now has its first drafted edge rusher, Noah Spence from Eastern Kentucky.
Jameis issued an endorsement of Spence just this week.
“I’m very good friends with [Eastern Illinois] defensive end Noah Spence. We played in the All-American game coming out of high school,” Jameis said. “So it was good, and when he came to town, he told me he was talking to the coaches and stuff, so I was very happy for him.”
“I know [Spence] is a great guy. He works his tail off and you just see how all that stuff is behind him. Whatever, I don’t even know his [past] situation, but I know he’s a great person. I know his dad personally. He’s just always been a great friend of mine.”
Hey, a Jameis thumbs up is good enough for Joe, but there’s much more to Spence. He was a Senior Bowl standout and he’s often lauded for his drive and grit.
Some think Spence isn’t fast enough to be a true 4-3 rusher. He’s small in stature (6-2, 251 pounds) and light on pure speed, but he’s big on anger, motor and production. Likely the only reason Spence was there for the Bucs is lingering concerns after drug problems (Ecstasy) got him booted from Ohio State after an eight-sack sophomore season. He also was arrested early last year for disorderly conducted and alcohol intoxication.
However, Spence will not enter the NFL in the league drug program. His problems are that far in the past, and he’s been clean.
Spence moved on to Eastern Kentucky to prove himself and rebuild his stock, and he did just that.
Is Spence the defensive end to finally kill off the ghost of Simeon Rice and record 10 sacks? Stay tuned.

YESSSSS!!! I was worried that one of these teams moving up were trying to get in front of us so that they could get him before we could. Super stoked about this pick. I think he’s gonna be the steal of the draft. Finally a pick worth cheering about! Now let’s go get Von Bell
April 29th, 2016 at 7:54 pm

I thought he looked a little small. He’s gonna need some great dance moves to get around blockers when teams keep running his way. Not too much heavier than Floyd.
April 29th, 2016 at 8:11 pm
Thanks to the Ravens trading back, I knew when the fins moved up we had our chance
April 29th, 2016 at 8:12 pm
Low pad level and can really bend around to get after it.
April 29th, 2016 at 8:12 pm
Holy cow ! Thank you Lord, I was sweating bullets there. Go Noah Spence ! Go Bucs !
April 29th, 2016 at 8:14 pm
The Titans just got Derrick Henry. I think this guy will be better than Elliott.
April 29th, 2016 at 8:15 pm
I like that licht is building a team of outkasts.
Tennessee killing it too. Gotta give’m props for jumping up to 8 last night. Now, The Heisman Trophy backfield. Ultimate bomb or bust move.
April 29th, 2016 at 8:19 pm
Still smiling.
April 29th, 2016 at 8:26 pm
Nice pick lets go QB hunting…
April 29th, 2016 at 8:27 pm
Awesome job Jason Licht!
Unlike a previous 2nd rd Buccaneer DE – We WANT Noah to eat Cheeseburgers. LOL – A lot of them – to the tune of 15-20 lbs worth.
Expecting big things from this young man. Hope he is a quick study. I already heard that he is a hard worker who loves the game so that along with talent can take a guy a long ways.
Welcome to Tampa Bay Noah Spence.
April 29th, 2016 at 8:31 pm
Funny……..last month a bunch of cats here where talking about Spence in the first round and no Hargreaves. Now we got BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 29th, 2016 at 8:32 pm
And Licht is doing it his way. So much for all the crying and B!tching.
April 29th, 2016 at 8:44 pm
He plays both ends, has a relentless motor and looks fast enough to drop back in coverage. Looks like a versatile player. Has real good bend to get around the corner but might be susceptible to screen passes because he is so fast off the line.
April 29th, 2016 at 8:46 pm
The future is so bright I need my Oakleys to look at it! We are on our way fellas!!
We just got two guys that we could of taken in the 1st. Wow. Leave it to the draft guru.
April 29th, 2016 at 8:47 pm
I love that he is known as a hard worker. “Relentless” was one word used to describe his work ethic. I only aant guys like that on this team.
April 29th, 2016 at 9:06 pm
I thought the jags were geniuses with their draft. Jalen Ramsey and then watching Miles Jack just fall in their lap in the second. It was like a dream come true for them.
The bucs did the exact same thing! Noah Spence is a top 10 talent if not for his slight off the field issues. Noted as “the best edge rusher” in this draft. So we get the best pure cornerback in this draft and the best edge rusher in the draft. How could anyone be upset about that!
April 30th, 2016 at 4:02 am
I think this draft is going as planned which is great but we need one more move in this draft for a great safety, linebacker,or offensive lineman maybe even stay put and draft what’s best at those positions accordingly to positional depth strength
April 30th, 2016 at 5:43 am
All I have to say is watch Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis film.
