*Obviously, we don’t need a first round QB, or perhaps DT. I would, however, take a guy like Myles Jack if he fell to 9. We would have the sickest LB corp in the NFL.
Trade down if at all possible, the talent for our positions of need just isnt there. Its a deep draft. Get the extra picks. Trade glennon for another. Or package to trade up at the right moment. Would love get extra picks thru rds 2-3 and land alot of good youngbl talent. An early pick at wr would be great
I say trade down. But..I’m dreaming. Its not gonna happen. So we gotta probably go with best available players IF…one of the 3 top defensive ends is not available.
If no trade back ideally it’s Rankins to me right now or whoever Light thinks is the most disruptive d lineman available. I can live with VH3 as well.
Ideally trade back and get more picks and still take a Rankins or Ndekevich or whatever or Noah Spence / Emmanuel Ogbah.
Not sure why Ogbah isn’t rated higher. He has the best measurables in the class and 2 years of great production getting to the QB. Scouts must have an issue with his technique?
IMO there are 6 prospects that are considered close to “can’t miss”: Bosa, Stanley, Buckner, Tunsil, Ramsey, and Jack, problem is I think most if not all will be off the board when it gets to #9. I’d be content with trading down and drafting either Coleman/Spence/Ogbah/Apple.
For all who feel Bosa is a sure thing, good thing for you you might have missed Bill Polian’s comments about him at the combine. They weren’t positive. Give me Ogbah I’ll be delighted.
And I’m also iffy about Buckner. I was waiting on a reason as to why he didn’t lift at the combine. Never received one but for me that’s a personal red flag. For all the lamenting around here about the lack of sack production why would you want him anyway. That guy is a run stuffer. Ogbah would pass rush circles around Buckner.
Trade down would be great but it’s hard to see that scenario play out tthis year. If Jack is there you have to take him. This guy can play pretty much anywhere and for those who say we don’t need a 2 down LB we could always find a way to keep him on the field in Nickel and. He played some slot corner so athleticism is there, could always play at safety in nickel.
I dont think Jack will be there and if no trade down I’d like Coleman from Baylor. VJax is on his last leg and this is a dynamic playmaker who could be a deadly pairing with ME13 for years to come. Think OBJ or Steve Smith.
I also like Ogbah but don’t know if he’s that double digit stack guy so at 9 I don’t like the value/risk.
Snowman he won’t be in his first year, but check him out in his third season. I’m not singing his praises because I expect that next season I believe much like my guy Lord stated his measurables are eye catching. The production is present and he’ll be coached by one of if not the best D line coach in the league. Some are skeptical but we gotta snatch this guy.
So if am OT is rated slightly ahead of a DE they should take him, even though the DE is a glaring need?!???!??
No GM does that.
It’s irresponsible and downright stupid.
How does that work in the draft room—
“What’s the biggest need boys?”
“DE followed by DB”
“Ok! Let’s grab an OL even though we just drafted 2 last year and signed another in FA.”
Been good man thanks for asking. Just busy, had my first son a few months ago.
I just stopped posting early in the season when the whiners and the trolls came out and treated every game like the sky was falling.
Feeling re-energized though and very excited for this draft and next season with a refreshing new coaching staff. We didn’t lose any players and have even added more talent so there is a lot to be excited for a fan of this team.
I said yesterday Ogbah reminds me of Ansah who I wanted when he came out. Ziggy in his 3rd year finally busted out 14.5 sacks, so you might be on to something and if we take him I won’t be dissapointed and I will hope you,re right.
BPA is only idiotic if you’re inflexible about it. It’s not like blindly selecting the guy with the highest number rating off the top and turning in the card. Of course, it’s always who is the best player available for my team. If the players are comparable, of course you pick the need. If the need guy is not near the same caliber as the less needed guy, you have to take the better player, or trade down. Teams that consistently pass up value for need end up with crap rosters.
Yeah, I did pick OTHER. I wasn’t going to pick a specific position because that’s stupid, and I wasn’t going to say “BPA regardless of position” because that’s also stupid, and I wasn’t going to say trade down because that’s not always possible. I erred on the side of precision.
My actual preference would be that there is a DE available that Jason Licht and the staff evaluate as a top 10 pick, but I don’t see it. Absent that, BPA from DT, OT, CB all seem justifiable to me, as does a trade down. I hate it when multiple choice questions leave out the most obvious answer. To me, BPA from among a few need positions is the most defensible choice.
People also need to get use to the idea that fixing our offense will take TWO drafts.
Licht could have done it in one if he had signed a couple young, healthy defensive players with upside, but he fell short in that front.
We will be lucky…LUCKY! if 3-4 picks work out this year as starters…and that’s optimistic. We have more needs on defense than that, and we also need to address a couple spots on offense (such as WR, RT and TE).
When someone tells me spence has been in Tampa for a visit I’ll say maybe until then my belief is Licht was watching that night Ogbah was all over Jamies.
Exactly my point. It is s combination of the two but need takes a huge precedence.
Of course you don’t take a need if that need is slated for a round or 2 later.
I vote trade back a little, grab BPA+need+value which equals WR in my opinion, the best one of this draft, Josh Doctson….then Ogbah and Im ok with going all D after that. Maybe a FB, that Gronk kid. If you want to draft a kicker high, wait on Jake Elliot entering next year.

I see them taking BPA, but I want them to take a DE if Buckner or Bosa falls.

Mine is BPA*

BPA. A trade down would be great but is highly unlikely.

Who the hell put other and what else is left?
SMH.

@87
Jameis haters . Process of elimination, must be qb.
I picked DE, but I’m surprised OL isn’t getting more votes.
April 8th, 2016 at 12:32 pm
That’s covered under best regardless of position!
April 8th, 2016 at 12:40 pm
I say BPA. Who knows what really have on defense with the coaching we’ve had on that side of the ball the last two years.
April 8th, 2016 at 12:41 pm
“Other” could be a trade up

I’d try to trade down in every round! Lol! We need as much new talent that we can get.
April 8th, 2016 at 1:34 pm
Bosa and Buckner are the busts of this draft. I don’t want either of those guys.
April 8th, 2016 at 1:37 pm
BPA all day.
If Ramsey is off the board, none other are worthy of ninth overall
Just sayin
April 8th, 2016 at 2:01 pm
I said BPA because I’m hoping it will be Jack. Trading down would be nice if we could do R1 Spence and somehow R2 Will Jackson III

For those saying ” Best available regardless of position” I have a question.
What if the “Best available regardless of position” is quarterback? Or Left Tackle? Or Nose Tackle?
“Best available regardless of position” is a myth. No team does it. Ever. All teams draft by need.
The best teams draft ” Best available according to team needs”.
Get real, people.
