Olivier Vernon Is A Free Man
March 9th, 2016BSPN is now reporting that the young Dolphins pass rusher, the coveted defensive end Olivier Vernon, is now a free man, released from his transition tag tender after Miami signed Mario Williams.
So now what?
Will the Bucs enter a battle of wallets with the Giants and others?
Remember, Vernon wants as many damn nickels as he can summon.
And remember, Jason Licht called out Vernon by name.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:05 am
Licht needs to employ the “what would you like to be paid” strategy.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:06 am
We’ll see.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:06 am
Does it bother anyone else that the Dolphins would rather sign Mario Williams, than keep Vernon?
Yeah, he could probably help our team….but the Dolphins obviously thought that Williams was an upgrade over him. Maybe one teams trash is another’s treasure…but I think I’d rather have Williams too.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:11 am
Vernon is not worth what the FA market will dictate. Good young player – but $13-$15 Million a year? Um – NO.
Sign Martin – Sign Schwartz – Sign Roddy – Sign a starting caliber SLB Concentrate on DLine in the draft – Grab a safety and a CB as well on draft day – and we are good to roll…
March 9th, 2016 at 10:11 am
Bidding starts at 6 years 90 mil (15 per) with 42 gauranteed. Jags will overpay. Something is wrong with the cap if the jags are controlling the market right now. They gave so much money already to Malik Jackson for DE and Chris ivory for running backs is reason for delay with Doug Martin deal.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:11 am
@Jeagan, Offer him one of those fully guaranteed year-by-years deals like Revis. If he don’t pan out cut him.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:12 am
He will be signed by Jax.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:15 am
Jax is just about our of money ppl
March 9th, 2016 at 10:15 am
If we go 5-11 can we still blame Lovie Smith

He’s far too young to ever agree to something like that.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:17 am
Feels like no one wants to come here, or the free agent deals are too rich for the Bucs….either way 5-11 here come
March 9th, 2016 at 10:20 am
I don’t understand why the Bucs had no interest in Mario Williams. A 2 year 8 mil a year deal seems perfect for the Bucs situation. Wonder what they were thinking
March 9th, 2016 at 10:21 am
@jeagan
I was thinking the same thing but remembered Mike tannenbaum calls their shots
March 9th, 2016 at 10:25 am
@Jeagan
Not surprising at all, Miami likes names and splash players for entertainment, that’s all they are. You can tell by their ownership, Gloria Estaphon, Mark Anthony, Williams sisters. Miami will always go for the splashy name guy. Heck if you ever saw a Dolphin Billboard you would think it’s a Pink Flamingo in Vegas billboard. Go Bucs
March 9th, 2016 at 10:27 am
Don’t overpay for this clown.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:27 am
FA time is the most disappointing time of year for me as a Bucs fan. We never sign anyone good. We just keep hearing that we aren’t gonna spend a lot of money we will be patient and low and behold we end p with guys we think are diamond in the rough starters for our team who couldn’t start any where else. Why doesn’t Licht should just come out and say we are rebuilding and it will be a couple of years before we are contenders. Such crap! The Gazers raise ticket prices but won’t raise a pen to the check book to get talented guys in here that would put butts in the seats and help us win games. you can’t do it all in the draft! I’m bummed….
March 9th, 2016 at 10:32 am
With LM retiring and cutting Bruce Carter, we have the second most cap space and what have we done with it: Russell Shepard, Bradley McDougal, Jacquies Smith, Keith Tandy… Building blocks of a solid defense (special teams)
March 9th, 2016 at 10:32 am
I’m sure the Glazers will be so proud to once again be one of the teams with the most salary cap space next year. Hugh Culverhouse would be proud!
March 9th, 2016 at 10:35 am
Keep dreaming… They’re not gonna do it cuz of what happened with Johnson… If you miss again your probably looking for a new job.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:38 am
Let the Vernon sweepstakes begin.
You dont give $12M per to a guy with 29 sacks over 4 seasons. Sorry.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:43 am
It won’t matter Licht is sleep on the job. 6-10 against a weak schedule last year, I’m not all that optimistic going into this season with the talent that they currently have on the team.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:43 am
Lead the league in hurries last season I’ll take him in a New York city minute.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:44 am
The damage that was done from the middle of the Broncos D and what the DT’s in Carolina do, what Mike Smith did with the Jags back in the day with his DT’s is very interesting to me. I’d like to see us make a play at the DT spot and then get the pressure up the gut and see what the DE’s can do after that. So, if that is the way to play, Vernon for 15+ might not be the right place for the check book.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:44 am
@Rsrq….I’m not surprised that any team would sign a big name player…especially Miami. What I asked was does it bother anyone that we would have more of an interest in Vernon (supposedly)….after being jettisoned by the Dolphins…than for the guy they ended up cutting him for. I mean, $8million a year for Williams seems like a bargain, compared to the $12 million or more a year that it will take to sign Vernon, doesn’t it? If Mario Williams wanted to come play in Florida, couldn’t we have made him a better offer? Maybe Miami is wrong….maybe Vernon is the better player….but I gotta think that they know this player pretty well. You don’t often see teams parting with young talent, unless they are in cap issues or they know something about a guy that no one else does.
I guess we will find out a little later today what Jason Licht thinks. I just hope we haven’t passed up a shot at a proven guy like Mario Williams, for another question mark ar DE.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:47 am
@Jeagan, I got cha, don’t know we didn’t make a play for Williams either, maybe they are looking at who will be free agents next year, idk
March 9th, 2016 at 10:50 am
Hands2,
MvDonald, Spence, GMC and Gholston, moved inside on passing downs is a pretty rotation of interior talent. This is why I don’t get why some people are pulling for Buckner. Hey I like the guy. A lot. The sad truth is we don’t have speed off the edge.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:51 am
Just another guy to get your hopes up for, only to have us not get him. I’m not extremely high on Vernon, but he’s the best of what’s left. But don’t worry, we’ll sign a guy we’ve never heard of who the franchise will claim is the next breakout star.
March 9th, 2016 at 10:57 am
What you guys don’t realize is its not just about the money with these free agents, Charles Johnson took 3mill less to stay in Carolina, he even said “his heart is in Carolina” so what good would he have been for us had we signed him to a mega big money deal!?! He would’ve been homesick the whole time and would have gave us pathetic effort on the feild, anyone remember Michael Johnson saying his heart was in Cincinatti?? We all know what happened there. Get over it and move on, I’m more interested in the draft.
March 9th, 2016 at 11:12 am
I keep reading that we don’t spend money – the Bucs spend money, but the Bucs have been very good with contracts with high yearly avg without the high guaranteed dollars.
What we should be saying is that we are awful at our selections of FA talent. Maybe I’m to old but FA is not exciting to me – we never seem to get better in FA. So I’ll sit back and hope Licht can turn this around…
Darrelle Revis CB 2013 Trade $16,000,000
Vincent Jackson WR 2012 Free Agent $11,111,111
Carl Nicks G 2012 Free Agent $9,500,000
Michael Johnson DE 2014 Free Agent $8,750,000
Dashon Goldson S 2013 Free Agent $8,250,000
Logan Mankins G 2014 Trade $8,250,000
Alterraun Verner CB 2014 Free Agent $6,375,000
Anthony Collins T 2014 Free Agent $6,000,000
Josh McCown QB 2014 Free Agent $5,000,000

PLEEEEASE!

“I don’t understand why the Bucs had no interest in Mario Williams.”
Jason Licht has said several times…they look 3 years down to road.
Mario is too old to even be playing in 3 years.
March 9th, 2016 at 11:44 am
Jeagan, it does’t bother me at all.
Dolphins are a crap organization that can’t recognize talent. They bring in all these high priced guys, just to wash out. Sign Tannehill to an enormous contract and his teammates can’t stand him. Last who can forget that they chose Dante Culpepper instead of Brees. DC was coming off two blown ACL’s and Brees a shoulder but no one could believe they chose DC when they did it. So no, it doesn’t bother me.
I wanted Janoris Jenkins bad, but for 12 mill a year, LOL see ya!! Ridiculous, unfortunately that just set the CB market. Will be interesting to see what Josh Norman will get now.
March 9th, 2016 at 11:45 am
Be patient….it is still very early in the process…..I am confident that the Bucs will improve at several positions through FA.
March 9th, 2016 at 11:55 am
Looks like another failure at FA again. Im sure we couldve made news with someone by now….oh well. I really hate seeing this again.
Hey, here’s an idea! Lock up this RB named Doug Martin, I hear he’s pretty good when healthy and behind a good O line with a QB who can pass.
March 9th, 2016 at 12:01 pm
Right. Free agency is a failure before it ever begins. LoL. Do you even hear yourselves? LoL. Another comical day in JBF land.
March 9th, 2016 at 12:06 pm
Miami, that’s in another country right, can’t buy a playoff game.
March 9th, 2016 at 12:12 pm
@ the big names Couch, the big ones!!! Happened last year too in case you werent paying attention.
We’ll be forced to overpay for mediocrity like usual because the talent will be thinning out…..seen and read that somewhere before.
March 9th, 2016 at 12:12 pm
Raiders and Jags making big moves, now other UFA’s want to go there. See, got to spend money to make money.
March 9th, 2016 at 12:13 pm
THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 9th, 2016 at 12:14 pm
Jacksonville will land O.Vernon, and win the AFC south this year. All you fake bucs fans better jump ship early and hitch your wagon to the Jaguars
March 9th, 2016 at 12:21 pm
Oh so big names equate to more wins. I see I see. Didnt work out to well for Incompetent Lovie.
March 9th, 2016 at 12:24 pm
I have a really great way to fix our pass rush, let’s see if Detroit has a back up DE we can trade a late round pick that nobody else wants, I’m sure we can get more production than our other starting DE…what?…we did that last year…oh sorry I didn’t see him on the sack totals…huh?…he didn’t have any sacks…oh boy, we need help, hey let’s sign a free agent, yeah that sounds great….what? All the good ones are gone, free agency has started yet? Oh boy maybe we can just blame it on Lovie Smith, tell everyone we have talent , just the coaching was bad!! That’s a great idea, now I can focus on trading for a backup Detroit DE.
XOXO
Jason Licht

5-11
Here we come
March 9th, 2016 at 12:29 pm
We have been told for months now that the Bucs wont be big spenders in Free Agency this off season. Despite that, its comical to hear some of you whine and cry as if this is a total and complete shock that we arent going after the most overpaid players available on Day Freakin 1 of Free Agency. That Symphony of tears is making a comeback!!!
March 9th, 2016 at 12:31 pm
Sometimes they work sometimes they dont Couch. Doesnt hurt to try though. But you have to try. Worked out pretty well for Denver. Last big name we tried was Revis.
March 9th, 2016 at 12:34 pm
Go ahead Couch laugh….you’re comfortable with mediocrity, so sing your little song and dance to it. Some of us dont settle that easily my friend!
March 9th, 2016 at 12:37 pm
Actually, I was one of the biggest advocates for getting rid of Incompetent Lovie. So to say im ok with mediocrity is rather silly. You know whats not silly? Crying that we havent signed anyone and declaring Free Agency a failure before the official signing period has even started!!!!
March 9th, 2016 at 12:37 pm
Btw, we did try to go for someone, again you probably werent paying attention, but alas, he follows his heart instead of the money trail, George Johnson. Have to admire that though.
March 9th, 2016 at 12:37 pm
Even more silly*
March 9th, 2016 at 12:40 pm
A failure at the big names at our biggest holes…..DE, DB. Now you’re crying that you’re not ok with mediocrity and bringing Lovie’s firing into it like I wasnt on your side too. Yeah, try to change the subject….whatever.
March 9th, 2016 at 12:48 pm
Lol you are the one that brought up that I was ok with medicority then try to spin it as if I was the one changing the subject… Ahh I see what you did there. Keep crying Max. Maybe we’ll sign a big name before Free Agency actually starts just so you can dry your eyes.
March 9th, 2016 at 12:54 pm
I hope Couch….Im all in on Vernon now. But Im not about to deeply involve myself into another argument with an a$$hat like you again….we’ve had a run in or two before and I know your style….besides Im going to bed, have to work tonight…..and dont worry, I’ll cry myself to sleep before you have the chance to tell me to do so 😉
March 9th, 2016 at 1:00 pm
Hey Couch, is it too much to ask that the $60 million dollar Bucs sign one good free agent, having the most money left after the first day of free agency isn’t exactly a prize, when you are picking fromthe scrubs of free agents, how will that improve our team, players like collins, both johnsons, Verner, Jenkins, carter, Melton, tony McDaniel, conte, English,Mcclown, swearinger, I’m sure I missing a few FAs but picking the non-top tier FAs isn’t improving our team, building through the draft is great, but at some point those draft picks are going to play for a different GM if he keeps picking up other teams garbage
March 9th, 2016 at 1:24 pm
is it to much to ask to at least wait a few more hours until Free Agency actually starts before complaining? You and maxy pad should go hold hands and calm down together and try to stay positive cuz you might just be surprised by days end. Which is what I am hoping for cuz I would hate for the Bucs to have to feel your wrath if, god forbid, they actually had the nerve to make you wait a day or 2 before they sign someone that may or may not have your stamp of approval. lol SMH
March 9th, 2016 at 1:38 pm
Couch, I hope to meet you one day.
Again, a legitimate fan and other fans of this team voice an opinion and criticize management. But because it doesnt settle well with you, you have to get your panties in a wad and cry how much your pu$$y hurts because you disagree with our stance. You must be one lonely individual if thats all it takes because I cant imagine someone actually puts up with you in real life…well, except maybe your Mom. Somebody has to tie your shoe laces….smdh.
March 9th, 2016 at 1:46 pm
I have to believe the Bucs are completely focused on landing Vernon. No matter how much the contract is, it would be a silver lining to potentially losing Martin. it’s also prudent to say that we have enough space to sign Vernon to a huge contract and still keep Martin around the expected 7 mill a year price.
March 9th, 2016 at 1:53 pm
I appreciate you dedicating a whole post just to me, MaxyPad. You angry? You should be becuase you sound like a child. I dont critique your opinion. Never have.
What I have done though is question why you are crying before there is anything to cry about?… but if you rather spin it and dedicate another whole post about me. be my guest.
March 9th, 2016 at 2:10 pm
Lol, na, you don’t critique. Just label us as whiners and crying while watching top talent be signed by other teams…oh but free agency hasn’t officially started yet. Good grief kid, grow the fk up and at least own your chit when it’s there for all to see. You’re crazier than I originally thought you were. Can’t even admit and own your words…Lol….please tell your psychiatrist to increase your meds or try something new.
March 9th, 2016 at 2:20 pm
Well when you complain before there is anything to complain about… thats exactly what you are. Truth hurts?
March 9th, 2016 at 5:02 pm
Guys were already being announced as signing with other teams you idiot!!! My gosh you really are that stupid!!!!
