Lovie Gushes Over Jameis
March 22nd, 2016Partially because he has to, Illinois coach and former Bucs overlord of football operations Lovie Smith has started a media tour of sorts, only not with NFL folks.
Because he has to sell his brand to high school players and their parents alike, Lovie must get out front as the face of Illinois football. During an appearance on something called the “Talk of Fame Network,” Lovie may be in Champaign, Ill., but he still holds the face of the Bucs franchise close to his heart, that would be America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.
Lovie went overboard, for his standards, praising the man he brought to Tampa Bay.
Of course, Smith’s also the guy who drafted Winston and served as his head coach in Winston’s rookie season, so he’s not exactly unbiased. But he has no attachments to Tampa Bay, either, fired after going 6-10 in his second season there … with, you guessed it … Jameis Winston.
“He has everything you’re looking for in an elite leader,” said Smith. “Great player. One of the all-time great types. He can make all the throws as a quarterback. Comes into the room, and you want to follow him. … [Winston has a chance to be] “one of the all-time great types.”
When it was suggested it’s unfortunate he couldn’t take Winston with him to Illinois, Smith didn’t disagree.
Yes, mock Lovie if you will. And the reason why Lovie is gone is he did a terrible job. Not because of some half-baked, hatched plan, seemingly pushed by an agent, that Lovie was victimized by of a palace coup.
That written, Lovie’s legacy with the Bucs will not be for his lousy defense or his cruel mind tricks with cornerbacks, but for bringing Jameis to Tampa Bay.

Yea. I give you that Love Master. Thank you for the terrible two years, which in turn helped our YUCS land the savior. THE MESSIAH! To that lets give thanks. HUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMM!
March 22nd, 2016 at 5:26 am
Can this be the last lovie story?….turn the page and go away lovie…
March 22nd, 2016 at 5:45 am
Not sure I follow the logic here. Lovie gets kudos for doing a ‘terrible job’ thus managing to win the #1 draft position by going 2-14, and so he’s applauded for ‘bringing Jameis to Tampa Bay’. Only in Bucsland would anyone applaud such incompetence.
Personally I’d be much more in favor of giving the Glazers and Jason Licht the credit for bringing Jameis to Tampa Bay. I’d also give Dirk Koetter the credit for developing Jameis into a franchise QB, not Lovie. Sorry, but Lovie’s arrogance almost single-handedly destroyed our Bucs. No kudos for that.

Is it the coach or the GM, Irsay is doing Peyton’s induction speech from what I hear. Wel’ll see who does Jameis induction speech (probably Jimbo)
March 22nd, 2016 at 6:39 am
Rrsrq, I’m proud to have you as a Bucs fan.
March 22nd, 2016 at 6:55 am
Lovies legacy in Tampa will be losing and 2-14
March 22nd, 2016 at 6:56 am
How does Jason Licth get credit for Jameis, when he wanted Marcus, that’s just what I heard. LOVIE was not susessful here, let’s not be disrespectful to the man, I say at least 6 coaches get fired at next seasons end. One thing for sure if we didn’t have LOVIE there would be no JAMIES, he’d be wearing #3 in Tennessee. Keep it movin LOVIE! Shake the Haters off!,
March 22nd, 2016 at 7:05 am
I don’t have a problem with Lovie getting canned for the he did. What I have a problem with is Jason Licht getting none of the blame. Lovie gets blamed for both the coaching and the GMing failures. Even after Licht confessed.
March 22nd, 2016 at 7:16 am
So done with the overrated coach Lovie Smith. No need to hear anything else from or about him.
March 22nd, 2016 at 7:47 am
Haynes,
Not true. It has been well documented Licht wanted Jameis. He even yearned for Jameis the year we selected Mike Evens. Of course Jameis wasn’t eligible that year so Licht obviously couldn’t draft him.
Go back in you hole with uour silly conspiracy theories.
March 22nd, 2016 at 7:47 am
Lovie and Licht both share the blame for the two losing seasons, and share the credit for getting Jameis. The difference is that Licht seems to be willing to learn from his mistakes, where as Lovie refuses to accept that he has made any. Just sayin’
March 22nd, 2016 at 7:50 am
So sick of reading about lovie

That is bullspit. Jason Licht said multiple times he was the last to buy in on Winston.

Oh, you mean Licht has avoided the same mistakes? Such as signing overaged, injury prone veterans to defense? Or signing players that have one good year (one year wonders)?
Sure he’s learned…

Yet another opportunity to bash ole Lovie aye? It will be nice to see the new season start so Buc fans will have new bowling pins..to knock down. I thought our Bucs had moved on. And Lovie has too..to the college coaching ranks. Guess we can’t let go of that rope. Who..will take the blame after Lovie? Stay tuned cause its the Buc way. And players are ..exemt from blame. They don’t play poorly. its all the coaches fault. Bash on Bucnation..bash on.
March 22nd, 2016 at 7:59 am
Jason Licht will get props from me when he earns them. He has done that only once thus far…when he traded back into the second last year for Marpet.
Everything else he shares the credit and blame for.
March 22nd, 2016 at 8:04 am
Bonzai,
Koetter has been quoted as saying that not Licht. Lovie sucked, bad, but the Joes dwell in the past look at their unhealthy obsession with Dominik and other former Bucs.
March 22nd, 2016 at 8:23 am
@Joe
I think you are doing a disservice by saying to some by saying lovie’s legacy is bringing JW3 to Tampa Bay! There might be some recruit and there parent who read this and think that maybe, lovie knows what he is doing! Only to go to Illinois and get blown out time after time!!!! Finally finds out that lovie is as clueless as he was with the bucs, while the games are already out of hand in the 2nd quarter as lovie just stares at the jumbo-tron trying to figure why his Tampa 2 is not working in college either!!!!
Also, do we thank Wyche for “bringing” Sapp, Brooks, and Lynch to Tampa??
March 22nd, 2016 at 8:49 am
Highly unlikely.
Hell, Joe still writes about Father Dungy and Chucky and Rah and Schiano when they are in the news. Why should Lovie get special treatment?
Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.
March 22nd, 2016 at 9:10 am
@Joe
Just heard a tid-bit yesterday. I heard the GMC93 and LVD54 are looking at Sapp and Brooks differently now!!! They each had a relationship with the counterpart and when first announced of lovie becoming the Bucs overlord, they filled their heads with how great of a man lovie is and how great the Tampa2 is!!! But we all know how that turned out!!!
Now , as it was described to me, its like, when I friend recommends and swears by a restaurant and you go and its awful and you never look at the “friend” the same!!! You kind of say to yourself, What does this guy know!!!!!

Licht wanted Jameis since 2013. Joe even posted an article about it. It was when he was still working for Arizona.

I feel for any Bucs fan who might be a Illinois fan. lol
March 22nd, 2016 at 9:56 am
for those that seek the truth :
Jason Licht did take a lot a the blame for free agency signings as detailed in
Fab1
Jason Licht was checking into Jameis as far back as his days KC.Licht and staff were
checking into Jameis from October of 2014 and decided on him by January
brought Lovie in on it that time.,as detailed in Fab2

Sounds like a fish tale.
GMC and Sapp are tight; have been since before GMC was drafted by the Bucs. Hard to believe their relationship has blown up because Lovie was fired.
Don’t know what if any relationship Lavonte David has with Brooks but again, can’t imagine they broke off communication over Lovie being launched. Doesn’t sound like David and surely doesn’t sound like Brooks.
March 22nd, 2016 at 10:37 am
WHO? Who will be the next Bucs Allman Brothers? Who.will be the next..”WHippin Post” For Koetter’s sake..I hope its not him and DC Smith.
Bash on BucNation..Bash on.

Prove it. You can’t because its not true. talk about “bullspit” – the majority of what you write is exactly that.

“the reason why Lovie is gone is he did a terrible job. Not because of some half-baked, hatched plan, seemingly pushed by an agent, that Lovie was victimized by a palace coup.”
I didn’t know BigHogHaynes was Lovie’s agent….

Anybody who post that licht was the last to buy in on winston should not be taking seriously as a buc fan and should be ignored. Its obvious posters like this knows nothing about the bucs. Unbelievable. Only “buc fans”
March 22nd, 2016 at 11:23 am
@Bonzai
everything is in print and licht is interviewed.the facts are not twisted
as you often do.Licht took his share heat for free agency. It was Koetter who said he would have picked Mariotta, not Licht period.
free agency aside, it was Lovie that put players in place on the field, to turn the eighth ranked defense under Schiano into eighteenth ranked defense. It was also Lovie that made frazier’s defense worse especially in pass defense.
Licht had his eyes on Jameis as far back as his Kansas city. The details are in the link I posted above.Check your facts .Don’t rely your memory of things.I can’t remember why I went into the garage half the time, you appear to have some of the same symptoms.

March 22nd, 2016 at 11:33 am
Bob in Valrico:
It is hard to believe your sermons about facts when you keep referring to Licht’s days with the Chiefs.
Jason Licht never worked for the Chiefs (though he did grow up about three hours away in the greater Omaha region).
Other than that, carry on.
March 22nd, 2016 at 11:34 am
You’d be surprised who reads Joe.
March 22nd, 2016 at 11:38 am
Pigskin:
Joe’s not going to share off-the-record conversations, but Licht was enamored with Jameis back when he was working for Arizona. Without going into details, Jameis (and his past) was the only thing standing in the way of Licht drafting Jameis through the team’s investigation of Jameis, spearheaded by Licht.
That is, once Lovie gave his blessing to draft him.
March 22nd, 2016 at 11:51 am
@joe
I stand corrected it was Arizona as you stated.Hey I already admitted to having some memory issues.
But I will try harder to get my facts straight in the future, thanks for setting me straight.Arizona ,repeat after me Arizona again and again

March 22nd, 2016 at 6:55 pm
Bonzai,
Definitely not bullspit. Koetter is the one on record for saying he was the hold out. Licht has been on the record for wanting Jameis the whole time. Do your research. Hell, Joe has posted numerous articles on it.
Go back in your hole.

He will fit in great in Illinois …They like being told storie there and lovie mc dovie is excellent at that!
Entitled do nothing society of Illinois!
