Koetter Talks “Fullback Type Things”
March 23rd, 2016It smells like the Bucs will draft a fullback.
Can anyone say “Baby Gronk” in the sixth round?
Dirk Koetter is one of the dying breed of offensive coaches who desires a fullback. Keep in mind Koetter developed Pro Bowl fullback Patrick DiMarco in Atlanta.
The Bucs don’t have one on the roster, and that’s going to change, Koetter said this morning at the NFC Coaches Breakfast.
“We don’t have a fullback right now, and we’re going to get one. We just haven’t found him yet. He might be sitting at this table right now. Who knows?” Koetter said this morning at the NFC Coaches’ breakfast.
“We’re in the process of looking for a fullback. They’re hard to find. In college football, there’s none in college football. I shouldn’t say, “None.” There’s a handful. There’s just not many teams that use them.
“Right now, Luke Stocker has played some fullback, fullback-type things. We ask our tight ends to learn that position, all of our tight ends, but the prototype fullback is a rare breed right now.”
Something to watch as the draft approaches. Last year, the Bucs selected fullback/running back Joey Iosefa in the seventh round, but he was cut and is now a member of the Belicheats

Dan Vitale will be the next bucs fullback, runs faster than gronk (4.6), catches better, and blocks better….
1st DT Sheldon Rankins
2nd CB Artie Burns
3rd DE Carl Nassib
4th S Tyvis Powell
5th DE Matt Judon
6th FB Dan Vitale
6th WR Charone Peake
This would check all the boxes could really use one more pick like a bonus 3rd

Nick oleary can play FB, he’s cheap, already has a relationship with Sir Winston and he has championship pedigree in his DNA.

Well, I said it back in January that picking him up may eventually be beneficial to us. We could lure Gronk on his down slide. I mean come one, you can hate the idea, but you know Bellicheat cuts losses pretty quick.

@Guzzie:
Glad you’re not putting the Bucs draft board together…

Hmmmm, passing league? What could you possibly want with a fullback?! We’re going ALL shotgun/spread this year, right?

How about bringing Alstott out of retirement? Mike? Mike? Are you there?
March 23rd, 2016 at 8:37 pm
@Seminole Bill:
Alstott was a runner, not a blocker.
They want someone to block for Dougie.
They HAVE a runner, need a blocker.

@ Tom
You must be watching A train highlight reels. If you’d paid attention to actual games, you’d know he became a hell of a blocker late in his career.

I bet if Dirk was the HC last season, we would still have Iosefa on the team. Lovie was an idiot when it came to player decisions. Lane was a good FB, but Iosefa could be more versatile out of the back field, and blocking. It is so sad that Lovie just throws away talent, the way he does. I totally regret the Bucs ever hiring Lovie, he set us back countless years. I guess the good thing is that Lovie has set us up for good drafts picks. Without Lovie we would have gotten Winston. So I guess I can’t hate him too much. It’s always darkest before the dawn!

@Espo:
Late in Alstott’s career, Gruden hated him and that was the end of Alstott….he was not a blocker, he hated blocking, so you’d want to bring him back to block? I think that would make Mike roll his eyes…….
