Glazer Explains Appeal Of His “Nuts & Bolts” GM
March 28th, 2016Fan confidence in general manager Jason Licht is extraordinary. You saw Joe’s 24-hour poll early this month.
There’s little doubt that Licht is more popular than Joe on these pages.
Licht’s popularity is so astounding that Joe wanted to discuss it with Team Glazer, specifically Joel Glazer, in the bowels of the Boca Raton Resort & Club at the NFL Owners Meetings last week.
Glazer was happy to explain why fans — and owners — approve of their GM.
JoeBucsFan.com: We do polls on JoeBucsFan.com, it’s rigged so people can’t vote more than once from a device. In our first poll ever on Jason Licht, he got a 90 percent confidence rating from the fans, which Joe has never seen before. And that was before the Brent Grimes signing. If we ran a poll, “Do you like this website?” we’d probably only get 70 percent saying, “Yes.” So with that kind of support for Jason, what do you think fans like about Jason? And what do you like about Jason?
Joel Glazer: I think people are recognizing what he’s doing. I mean, Jason is a true football person at heart, nuts and bolts football, tape junkie. You know, he has a way in his mind of building a football team. It’s a little bit of everything and a lot of hard work. I think people see it. They see how he’s approaching things. They see his drafts. The whole approach. And they see the direction. So I think when you put all that together. We’ve gotten to know Jason behind the scenes; we’re very, very pleased and very excited about the direction he’s taking us.
The “nuts and bolts” GM. Joe kinda likes the sound of that.
Yes, Licht has warmed the hearts of fans who remain mesmerized by the grand slam. They also like that Licht hasn’t played scaredy cat in free agency, despite third-degree burns in that area.
Now the Bucs just have to win more than they lose.
Tomorrow, Joe will deliver Joel Glazer talking about Licht and the NFL Draft.

the joes need to talked to their programmers because i’ve always voted more than once on polls
You really can’t do it more than once per device. Often it appears like you might have voted twice, but that’s not what happens in reality.–Joe

more work has to be done and games have to be played before I feel confident in what he’s doing…firing a coach after 2 years and signing a bunch of band aids(except sweezy) is nothing to praise…all of his moves suggest we’re ready to win now…10-6 with the playoffs or mr licht will/should be on the hot seat…GO BUCS!!!

For Bucs fans to be excited and confident in any GM, coach or player is a MAJOR step forward IMHO. I know some other NFL fans have had it as bad as we have (yes, the Browns and the Raiders among others), but it really does look like the ‘Licht has come on’ for the Bucs. We’ve been through a lot since the glory years, but things are definitely starting to look up. Kudos to Jason for setting the foundation through his hiring of Dirk Koetter and some highly experienced assistant coaches, for drafting Jameis and a number of rookie starters over the past 2 years, and for bringing in a number of quality FAs to flesh out our roster. Lots more work to be done obviously to rebuild a championship team, but finally it looks like we’ve got the leadership in-place to make that happen. Go Bucs!

New dirrection anyway you look at it. Go Bucs

Count me into the 10% as “Undecided”. The drafts have been pretty good but I still think he still has a lot to prove. It’s about ‘W’s’ right?!

I love the site, but I come daily for the unmoderated comment section.

Licht is the cats meow. Lovie came out of the other end. I think your approval would top 70%, Bucs winners even higher.

Licht appears to be doing a lot of things well. Holding off on drafting a QB in ’14 with an eye towards getting Jameis by all means necessary (which would have been the case if we did not have the #1 pick) was the biggest deal. Making moves up to acquire talent like Marpet at the end of the 2nd rd and Kwon Alexander in the 4th rd last year shows a lot as well. Time will tell how well all his moves in personnel acquisition pan out – but meathead appears to be doing a bunch of things right so far.
Its all about the W’s in this league though. Hopefully those wins will pile up quickly starting this year.
Keep up the good work Jason Licht.
Go Bucs!!!

Best GM in team history.

Given how much the Glazers approve of Jason, they probably had some insight into the workings of the free agency bombs in year one and saw those as Lovie moves or at least moves made to appease the head coach. Yes, Jason Licht will go down as the best GM in team history as this team grows and begins competing for playoffs every year. Hiring JL was the one great thing that Losie Smith did for this organization.

Let’s judge those drafts after 3 years and see if he constructs a playoff roster before anointing him.
Very promising start but I need wins. Sick of the losing

I like Licht but until he brings home a trophy, Richard McKay is still the best GM.
March 28th, 2016 at 2:29 pm
Amen Luther! Licht’s got a ways to go yet.

I agree with some of what 813BucBoi has to say. Let’s actually have a winning record for once before we start prasing Licht as the franchise savior. As for the free agency moves I think the reason why Licht made 1or 2 year deals with bets is because 1.) Now we can draft best available and not just for need and 2 .) nextyears free agency crop is supposed to be phenomenal so Licht doesn’t want to handcuff the franchise so,we can be he’s ily involved next year and the year after in free agency. I like Licht but I’m hot sure I like him more than Dominick quite yet. This season will say a lot about whether or not Licht is a Top GM in this league. I hope for the best! Go Bucs!

@Pickgrin I’m pretty darn sure it was Lovie that decided to wait on a QB cause he was in,love with McCown.
March 28th, 2016 at 4:50 pm
@darealist- No doubt Licht is already better than Dumbinik
March 28th, 2016 at 6:27 pm
What has he doing, he better win.

“Let’s actually have a winning record for once before we start prasing Licht as the franchise savior.”
Would or could this also work with Rookie players or coaches too? You might want to patent this DaRealistBucFan I THINK YOUR ON TO SOMETHING!

For me, the jury is still out on Licht. Yes, he hit on last years draft and he signed Martin. But signing Martin was more to do with Glazer’s opening up the wallet. The Glazers smell blood because they got a legit QB. And, Lovie was the one pounding the table for Winston before the draft. If Licht hits a home run on this years draft, then I’ll start singing the praises. It’s not hard to hit a fastball on a number one overall pick.
March 29th, 2016 at 12:29 am
Not accurate. Lovie signed off on drafting Jameis. If anyone “pounded” the table it was Licht, but that’s not how it went down.
Lovie should get credit. If he didn’t want Jameis, he wouldn’t be here.

I think the Glazes have “Finally seen the Licht” Yeah I know it is cheesy but there may be hope for this team. Take a chance on Spence at 9 Nkemdiche in 2nd round if he is still there. After all let’s face it no draft picks are guaranteed to be good choices. If anyone can help these troubled defensive players it is Mike Smith. GO BUCS.
