“We Need Doug Martin”
February 5th, 2016Team leader that he is, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, has thrown down a challenge down to Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.
The Bucs need Doug Martin, Jameis said, for the team to improve.
Appearing on the lone NFL pregame show Joe will watch, “That Other Pregame Show,” seen on CBS Sports Network, Jameis made an indirect plea to Licht: get free agent-to-be Martin back on the Tampa Bay roster.
Jameis suggested Martin’s presence in the backfield made his transition to the NFL nearly seamless. You can watch the interview below.

“We need to build through the draft!”
… Doesn’t resign players they draft.

Absolutely a no-brainer……we have the money and can even overpay slightly if necessary….Martin runs very hard and I suspect he will not be negatively influenced by a big extended contract…..I think he really likes Tampa and is a solid character in the community….why take a chance?

Doug will be back! National media is finding out Jameis is a pretty good interview. We will be seeing a lot more of that!

What most fans don’t comprehend and nearly all media are afraid to say is that the Glazers have complete control of how their money is spent. People blame coaches and GM’s. Howard goes right the source. Howard complained about the coaching (and player) turnover YEARS before it became the flavor of the week for the national media. You even hear some not so subtle hints from ex-GMs and ex-coaches about how they were held over a barrel by the Glazers as far as spending.
Howard was right then and he’s right now. The only way this team changes is if the Glazers change.
That said the Licht, Koetter, Smith and Monken hires have Howard feeling much better about the Glazers lately, but the jury is still out. They’ve got the staff, now they need the players.
Given that Tampa brought the Glazers the money to buy ManU, the least they can do is provide us a winning team.

As shocked as I am that all but 1 player drafted through Lovie’s tenure were on the offensive side of the ball, we really are set nice there. This team needs a Clinton McDonald like signing this offseason and 2 impact players at #9 and #39! Find your boy Mike Smith!

Doug Martin will be resigned. There is no doubt in my mind about that. Licht will give him a fair deal but still will leverage in the team’s best interest. Worst case franchise him and make him prove it again. Let him sniff the open market, offer him a competitive but front loaded offer with team options on the back…
I’ve seen some comments that there won’t be any good free agents this year on the market. Sorry, there are every year. It’s only a matter of making the correct decisions. Malik Jackson, Nick Farley, JPP, Muhamed Wilkerson are four d lineman off the top of my head. Prince A, Weddle, Berry, Norman in the secondary.
Point is, draft BPA with first 3 rounds and the team will be better off for the long term. Use Free Agency to plug the major holes and go from there. Build in the draft! Supplement in FA.

Without a doubt I agree we should have Martin back. Only thing that worries me is that he is injury prone. Not to mention he had something to prove this year with Tampa not picking up his option. The point of the matter being is he reliable? I guess we will have to wait to find out..
