“Kid Has Got Special Traits”
February 28th, 2016Don’t bore uber draft analyst Mike Mayock with rulers when it comes to Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves.
Try to knock Hargreaves for only being 5-10 in his NFL Scouting Combine measurement, and Mayock won’t have any of it.
Joe asked Mayock yesterday at his annual combine-closing press conference about Hargreaves (no, Joe isn’t counting the TV show, which Joe pays zero attention to), and the NFL Network taking head went all in on how Hargreaves is one of the most talented corners to come out of the draft in years.
“He’s got the best feet in the draft,” Mayock cooed. “He’s got the best feet I’ve seen in a couple of years. Vernon Heargraves, change of direction, his feet – he has special abilities. He’s not going to get pushed down very far [because he is 5-10].
“Height is not overrated. He’s going to be fine. If he’s 5-9, 5-8 ½, it might be different. But still, the kid has got special traits. They are the best traits for an off-corner in this draft and he can also press.”
Joe went digging. Hargreaves is one inch shorter than Darrelle Revis and Malcolm Butler — one lousy inch! — and the same size as Cliff Harris. Being short sure as heck hasn’t hindered those guys.
Yes, Joe gets that the NFC South has lethal tall receivers. Fair point. But does that mean that if Revis, Butler and Harris were suddenly free agents, for some strange reason, that they would be rotten signings? Hell, no!

I agree Joe. But the funny thing about the draft is other ppl will also see those special attributes and pull the trigger.
We can’t go wrong at 9 we will have the opportunity get DE, DT, CB, or T.

Ok, he’s your guy at #9. Wish I’d saved my last response to the prior article for this one….eh, I’ll repeat:
I like him, but that height and at #9, no. Im sorry. D line and O line with #9 please.
The more I think about it, the more Im thinking of O line here unless we trade down which isnt likely being at #9. D line is deep in this draft, O line isnt. And I doubt we’ll be picking top 10 again for a while.
Lets finish anchoring around JW3, especially with the uncertainty of Mankins. Even if he comes back, this will probably be his last year….so use that time wisely with another O lineman drafted at #9 for him to mentor.
There will be a run on OT’s so Tunsil and Stanley will probably be gone, but if Stanley is still there, you just have to. If not, I like Jack Conklin. He’ll go in the top 15. So unless we’re moving up for Bosa or Ramsey, I want an OT!
Andrew Billings or Noah Spence may just be there near the end of the first and we can trade back in to grab one of them or wait and see if they fall to the 40th pick.

Just bc a draft is deep at a position, doesn’t mean you ignore the elite talent at the top of that depth with a top 10 pick. Reaching for o-line at #9 would be irresponsible, as would taking a DT, which may be one of the deepest positions currently on the roster.
Take the best DE or CB/S available at 9, and find value everywhere else in the draft. If value turns out to be 3 DE’s this year, then I’m for it! This team is DESPERATE for edge rush talent!

If the Bucs are going to run 43 and 34 concepts get Spence. He could be our Khalil Mack hand in the dirt or outside backer
February 28th, 2016 at 8:26 am
Sterling Moore is 5’10 and he did a hell of a job against some of the best receivers last year.
Hargreaves would be nice but I’m still hoping J-Ram falls to us @ 9.
February 28th, 2016 at 8:27 am
Spence could also be a Randy Gregory….Id hate to waste a first again….we’ve done that too many times. Make this one count! Just like last year.

Draft half-wit Mike Mayock said the exact same crap about Morris Claiborne

-“one of the most talented corners to come out of the draft in years.” Finally ppl are noticing what I’ve been seeing for years. This guy has covered odell Becham jr, Jarvis Landry, Kelvin Benjamin and Amari Cooper throughout his career @ FLA. And the ony one that got their way with him was Cooper so u can’t tell me he won’t be successful in the NFL cause that’s a load of crap. And I doubt that a whopping inch in height will make a difference In him being one of the better corners in this league. Wait till u see his broad jump, dude has ups, he can Def make up for his height with his jumps and pure athletic and ball hawking ability. If Spence is there @ 9 I’m perfectly fine with VH3 cause I know what I’m getting with him.

Kalind: so did lots of folks. Something nobody other than him said is that in a draft class of Vince young, Matt Leinart and Jay Cutler, jay cutler is the best of the group. He nailed it. Can’t blame him for busts without crediting him when he flat out nails it.
Also, pointless to say “the bucs should draft X” because we don’t know who they can pick from. If these guys are all gone, then what? Just evaluate the players and don’t worry about who should we pick. 8 other teams help pick that for you.

From what I’ve seen throughout life people will almost always elevate their height when you ask them how tall they are. Even if they are tall they will add height when asked. Call it rounding up or flat out fantasy, I accept their stated height when I know better.

bucs4life86…Benjamin and Cooper got the best of him, not just Cooper.
Just sayin’.

It’s this.
Stay true to the board. BPA at these positions.

@Buc1987 did you actually watch those games or just looked at the stat line? Because Cooper did the most of his damage in the slot that game.
February 28th, 2016 at 9:55 am
It seems ever year a top 5 talent skills to around the 10th pick because a couple teams reach because of need or get scared that there guy won’t be there and trade up. So somebody with elite talent drops. I’m sorry but we need elite talent at almost every position, the only position I won’t consider for #9 is QB, and RB if we resign Martin. Every other position could use an upgrade.

You wrote everything I was going to write!!!!
This young man has everything we need! Passion, smarts, and he’s an incredible player!! People need to watch some of his games and see what he did!

Ronde listed at 510. Things turned out well for him. Just keep Randy Moss retired.
February 28th, 2016 at 10:26 pm
Corner can be found later in the draft…we need playmakers up front, Joe!
February 29th, 2016 at 3:42 am
LUV, you the man! Thanks for those facts 🙂
February 29th, 2016 at 3:43 am
The only top 10 @ CB or Safety is Ramsey. I hope we trade up for him, but if not, then go another direction please. OT or DE (Bosa or Buckner)
February 29th, 2016 at 9:22 am
good point espo, that Ronde Barber guy turned out to be OK huh??…he is the same height as VH3. Of course the game has changed since then and the league is full of taller receivers now but Hargreaves will make up for it with his athletic ability.
