Jason Licht Steals From Rich
February 15th, 2016If you are going to hire folks, you may as well reach for the stars. It also helps to have worked with the target of your affections.
And that is just what Jason Licht has done. The Bucs’ AC/DC-loving general manager plucked one of the top executives from the Super Bowl champions, the Broncos, to be his right hand man. That would be one of John Elway’s stars in Denver, national scout John Spytek, the new Bucs director of player personnel.
Licht and Spytek worked together with the Eagles back in the late aughts.
This type of front office move rarely happens before the draft. So it should be interesting to see what type of intel Spytek brings from Elway, who seems to know what he is doing as an NFL executive.
Spytek replaces Jon Robinson, who is the new Tennessee Titans general manager.

Can we have a confidence poll for licht? I think it will hit 98% total confidence. More proof that the piss poor moves made year 1 were 100% the decisions of he who shall not be named.
The best leaders surround themselves with people who are smarter than them. Our former coach thought he could take on the NFL with his friends and family.
The Glaziers must be feeling really good about themselves right now. Is it too early to start dreaming about Vonn Miller?

May you sir, have a long and successful Buccaneer career!!!!

On a side note..WOW!!! Welcome to Tampa John!!!

I see the news all over the place now..WOW!
In Licht and Koetter we trust INDEED!!
February 15th, 2016 at 9:25 pm
Licht is definitely the best front office person we’ve had, this guy is better than advertised. I for one, do NOT miss Dennis hickey (personnel) or Bruce Allen (gm).

“Is it too early to start dreaming about Vonn Miller?”
Von Miller is probably the LB you want, but won’t get.
Lindsey Vonn is the American alpine skier you probably covet, but won’t get either.
Freudian slip?

Spytek. I like that name – sounds like he’s capable of getting inside info via technical means that others are not privy to…
February 15th, 2016 at 9:50 pm
Great move. Guys like Danny Trevethan, Brandon marshall, Chris harris, the mid to late round guys of the world who turn out to be stars, play fast and swarm to the ball – identifying the diamonds in the rough in the draft is critical to the overall depth and talent of the team. No that is nothing illuminating, but plucking guys from teams that are good year in and year out is another great step

Oddly Enough I’m in a group chat right now with Tom Vonn her ex-husband. He and I went to HS together. Lindsey kept his name after they divorced. I like to bring up Tiger for no reason cuz I’m a pick and he’s cool af. Haha small world huh?

@ road warrior, please please tell me who was the GM of the Bucs these past two years yet your giving him a pass, everything that went wrong LOVIE’S fault, all that went right Jason was at the head of it. Ha ha ha you are so funny!!
February 15th, 2016 at 10:19 pm
These are the moves that build your team . J Licht continues to show that he is respected in the NFL. He brought in cincy d line coach who’s been grounded for 10yrs n cincy. He brought in the titans db coach to ge Verner back to a PRO BOWL level. He brought in Mike Smith to head the d so Koetter can focus on strictly offense and Jaboo. Now he going and plucking people from the great Elway . Trust someone is coming off that defense to Tampa… Believe IT! Jason has done this in a few months. Shoot im a vice president for a little league football and cheer program and still looking for 2 coaches to help us. #Lol Anyways he is doing his job and we need to sit back and enjoy where this team is going . oh yah , dont get upset when we dont resign Doug!
February 15th, 2016 at 10:43 pm
I’m impressed. While we won’t know how good these guys are for another 3 to 4 years, on the surface, the moves look really good.
February 15th, 2016 at 11:26 pm
Mr Licht had about the 18 years of experience in front offices. He’s been with many different teams learning his craft with mostly very successful teams. He has been able to pluck this high ranking executive from the super bowl champs. Good job Mr Licht!

DB…Lmao!
February 15th, 2016 at 11:37 pm
IDC what anyone says Joe. This is Great News!!! Our team continually gets better from top to bottom from a year ago. Ive been at this since ’76. Coaching got better. Front Office got better. QB and OL got better. Defense will get better. Smiles around
February 15th, 2016 at 11:40 pm
So… this is what it looks like when a pro football team us run by grownups. Huh…
February 16th, 2016 at 12:19 am
Spytek, love the name. Are we sure he is not from the Patriots? Jk jk. Sounds like a great hire. I have complete faith in JL to get it done. Let’s build a winner.
February 16th, 2016 at 5:59 am
Spytek,
Do I want years of Brock Osweiler or Jameis, mmmm?
February 16th, 2016 at 6:50 am
I agree on the surface the Bucs are making great hires
February 16th, 2016 at 6:54 am
This to the University is the 2nd biggest move Jason Licht has made. First biggest move was drafting Jameis Winston. Let’s hope Spytek does well. Go Bucs!
February 16th, 2016 at 8:36 am
Finally this team is being built the way the perennial winners do it. It’s not about winning the on paper free agency in the off season but rather assembling a group of coaches, scouts, and front office executives who know what they’re doing. I really believe we fans will see this franchise return to NFL relevance within a couple years in part thanks to the unpopular decision to let Lovie walk and let Licht take the reigns of power.
February 16th, 2016 at 10:12 am
He better win
DUH! Really? You mean in order to keep your job in the NFL you need to win?
Who’d of thunk it. The hurt fee fees over Lovie’s firing have apparently still not healed for everybody.
Let’s state the obvious…hopefully for the last time…YES!!! Licht…Koetter..Smith…all of them need the Bucs to win to keep their jobs and advance. We all get that!!! Lovie DID NOT WIN!!! That’ EXACTLY why he lost his job. It’s not a personality contest or a beauty contest in the NFL.
You could make the same statement for #3!!! If JW doesn’t win he’ll get cut.
He knows that. But we don’t expect him to fail and given the professional manner in which Licht is developing this franchise I don’t think we expect him to fail either.
This is going exactly as planned and resembles a successful organization.
Have a talented right hand man who gets hired away and replace him with the most talented guy next in line.
Lost Mike Smith as DC if he’s successful he’ll become HC and we have Jay Hayes waiting in the wings.
This organization is finally developing some depth at the coaching/management positions!!!
February 16th, 2016 at 10:26 am
@BigHogHaynes
I’m not saying that it was all Lovie’s falt.
I do think that if Licht was hired first he never would have hired Lovie in the first place. Lovie was not a very good head coach in my opinion. I also believe that Licht was playing nice at first trying to find out where he fit in. sense he really didn’t have final say on personal. I’m not saying that Licht is the answer. At least we know he has final say and we will find out if he is the man. I also believe that Licht’s evaluation of Lovie to the Glazers helped them make this decision.
February 16th, 2016 at 10:51 am
Licht is surely using the power of Jaboo to win over such an excellent staff.
This is easily the most impressive staff we have had in a very very long time.
February 16th, 2016 at 4:19 pm
Just another..SPLASH hire here. Man ain’t done nothing yet. As Licht is still tainted with his contributions to the last 2 losing seasons as well. Much to do..bout nothing! You fans been hoodwinked. Our Bucs have had numerous losing seasons. Produce a winning record Mr.Licht then I’ll say you are good. You are not this savior these hopeful Buc fans say you are..yet. You gotta have a few winning seasons first!! Know what I mean?
February 16th, 2016 at 5:01 pm
He will be hired as a GM next year! We’ll take him for now though!!!
