Jameis Learning Body Lessons
February 24th, 2016Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter shared a private conversation he had with America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.
While with Joe and a handful of other media at the NFL Scouting Combine today in Indianapolis, Koetter explained why Jameis was stunned by Falcons superstar receiver Julio Jones at the Pro Bowl.
Koetter coached Jones in Atlanta, so he understood why. And Koetter used it as an opportunity to make a point.
“First of all, Jameis was real impressed by how professional Julio was, how serious he was even though it’s a relaxing game, and then how put together he was [physically],” Koetter said.
“And I told Jameis, ‘Well, Julio’s body didn’t [always] look like that. He’s always been blessed, but Julio works at it.’ I’ve seen that with my own eyes. Julio works at it in the offseason. He’s not one of those guys who vanishes at the end of the year and shows up on the first day of OTAs.
“He gave me an example. He goes, ‘Coach, we were having a little walk-through, and Julio was over there getting stretched out.’ Jameis notices that kind of stuff. That’s how he is.”
Pretty cool stuff. And to think some fans and media scoffed at what benefit the Pro Bowl might bring young Jameis.

Regardless of weather or not people feel like he deserved to be there, I think it was a very positive experience for him. He is going to have a very bright future in the NFL and hopefully as the Bucs franchise QB for the entirety of it.

I can appreciate anyone who willingly admits that they have much to learn, especially while simultaneously putting themselves in a position TO learn.
#3 has shown a recurring propensity to do both.
Every single day he seems to legitimize his draft status. It is my hope that he soon legitimizes the entire Buccaneers organization! Go Bucs!!
TAAAMMPAAAA!!!!!!…

Piratic just “wait on it”. Its inevitable.
February 24th, 2016 at 4:14 pm
We all know how hard Jameis works. But that conversation should have extended to Mike Evans and all of the young recieving group, ASJ, Brate, Donavon Smith, and the entire defense.

i hope our fat quarterback doesn’t follow in Shaun King’s footsteps!!!! HA. honestly no one could balloon like King, so Im not that worried!
February 24th, 2016 at 4:35 pm
Winston has THE attitude and mind-set you need your QB and leader to have!
As the years come, his work ethic will permeate the entire team and culture of this locker room. Can’t wait.

I like how jameis has his eyes wide open.smart of koetter to turn it into a teaching moment.
February 24th, 2016 at 4:54 pm
I remember about this time last year when all the “experts” said he was lazy and they compared him to jawalrus Russell
February 24th, 2016 at 4:54 pm
BBBAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY !!!
Sheesh, left the man hanging. Go Bucs!!!!!!!
February 24th, 2016 at 4:55 pm
I think Jameis could probably lose about 10 pounds and add a little muscle. Not that he is fat, but a lighter, more muscular Jameis would be stronger and able to hold up much better during the long NFL season.

NosBos…we won’t be waiting too long though!
February 24th, 2016 at 5:17 pm
Jeagan
I do not disagree but he won’t be losing weight. Muscle is heavier than fat.
But I agree with you he can improve his body composition.
February 24th, 2016 at 5:23 pm
JOE, have you heard anything about whether Jameis is getting teammates together for his own little camps?
February 24th, 2016 at 5:24 pm
Jameis will have to work hard at keeping weight off…so that was a valuable lesson. I’m not saying he’s fat at all…just that the way his body is built, things add up faster.
Hopefully, that will never be an issue with him.

Both Jameis and Evans are 21. Too think they left college early as finished products is crazy naive. The key is attitude. I am convinced Jameis is not happy just being here. Jury is still out on Evans.
February 24th, 2016 at 6:25 pm
Jameis was slim coming out of HS but put on those extra lbs in college, with a good nutritionist and solid workout plan he’ll be fine.
February 24th, 2016 at 6:28 pm
Jameis has only had one offseason to get his body in football shape since he always played baseball during his offseason she puts in the bradylike effort that everyone says he does then no question he will be in much better shape going forward
February 24th, 2016 at 6:32 pm
yep, exactly like jamarcus russell
February 24th, 2016 at 6:32 pm
I think evans has had a lack of work ethic last season, but I also think rhat is going to change . The entire team will start giving more effort in the offseason with winsotn and koetter in place.
And licht too….cant forget him!
February 24th, 2016 at 6:34 pm
I’ll admit i was torn last off season…at one point wanted MM cuz of #3s off field issues. my home told me (Noles fan) just chill #3 is the ONE. Wow!
As a original, from the first game ever! Diehard, don’t have a second team, season ticket holder in ’12, BUCS fan…LET’S GO!
BTW, we need a new chant when cheering for our beloved Bucs. Tampa……….Bay is old and lame now, also stop firing the cannons unless we score! It use to mean something…now it goes off like some young whipersnapper. Lol
Ok
YO JOE!
GO BUCS!!!
February 24th, 2016 at 6:35 pm
Watching the combine pressers on the bucs website…
Jason Licht…
…I swear…with his movements and expressions…the way he listens to questions…all of it…it’s like watching a skit on Saturday Night Live and I kept waiting for a punchline. lol
About Doug Martin
He said they’ll meet with his people over the next couple days. There are always a few obstacles, but he said they are prepared…”either way.”
Sounds like if Doug does not sign the contract they want…he’ll be franchised.
February 24th, 2016 at 6:36 pm
btw, what was that about the Bucs might be traded to the “NFC West”????
I hope that was just a joke…
February 24th, 2016 at 8:09 pm
Bonzai
I think the Bucs play the NFC west teams in 2016 but I haven’t heard about them moving to the NFC west.
February 24th, 2016 at 9:04 pm
lol DB. Props as usual.
February 25th, 2016 at 8:05 am
its what i think will separate the future of winston’s career between being a good above average qb or a great qb . people say he has a great work ethic but that work ethic hasn’t been applied to getting into the best possible physical shape he could make himself be, his great work ethic that people mostly talk about is him holding his iPad and studying plays late at night. his diet and conditioning needs to be more professional. he is young and has the drive to get better so i’m hoping it clicks for him

Roll tide!!!!
