Jameis Is Rookie Of Year
February 6th, 2016The fans have spoken. And they have voted to honor America by naming America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Kudos, Jameis. Joe salutes you.
Winston passed for 4,042 yards and 22 touchdowns — rookie records for the Buccaneers.
Dirk Koetter said Jameis was extraordinarily deserving.
“As I have said before, I truly believe Jameis deserved to be honored as rookie of the year,” Koetter said. “There were many fine candidates, but taking every snap at the most difficult position on the football field and producing one of the greatest statistical seasons by a rookie in NFL history speaks volumes to the type of player and competitor Jameis is. Beyond that, he provided leadership and intangibles that made immeasurable differences to our football team. I am very happy for Jameis and look forward to working with him to build on an outstanding rookie season.”
Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters, Raiders receiver Amari Cooper, Rams running back Todd Gurley and Seahawks returner/receiver Tyler Lockett were the other finalists.
Jameis also is a finalist for the league’s Clutch Player of the Year honor, which will be named later today.

Great job MESSIAH! Too bad I didn’t get a chance to see you and Doug in the bay today. I did run into Dungy at the Moscone center. The old man acted like a prick to everyone. He was walking around alone in a black sweat suit. People stopped by and greeted him with Hi Mr. Dungy and his punk a$$ brushed them off. He robbed the franchise of at least one SB with him dumb a$$ coaching strategies. And to top it off he didn’t even want THE MESSIAH to be a BUC. F…U…. Tony!
February 6th, 2016 at 3:12 am
And well deserved!
February 6th, 2016 at 3:52 am
I still bet Gurley wins the AP OROTY, if for no other reason than to hype up the LA Rams.
February 6th, 2016 at 7:23 am
Great now go win games. That matters so much more than some reward.
February 6th, 2016 at 7:49 am
It’s very rare for a rookie QB to throw for 4000 yards and Jameis was the youngest of the 3 QB’s that have accomplished this…
February 6th, 2016 at 7:50 am
Ray Rice many T.V. personalties project sweet wholesomeness in front of a camera but in person can be d@$ks when you meet’em.
February 6th, 2016 at 8:46 am
but in person can be d@$ks when you meet’em.
Can you say Warren Sapp?
I’m not sure though where all the vitriol and hatred comes over disagreeing with a football decision.
Whether he was right or wrong do we really hate on TD because he thought Mariota was a better choice? It’s just a freaking game guys. Everybody has an opinion. Sometimes we agree sometimes we don’t…it’s not really that big of a deal.
As for TD’s accomplishments..I listed them on the HOF thread. You simply cannot deny the facts. He was a VERY successful coach whose coaching tree has produced other HC’s…one of whom won an SB and another who lost to his mentor in the SB. Peyton’s only SB win came with Dungy. Let’s see if that changes tomorrow night.

But but…”if the Bucs draft Jameis Winston, he’s going to set this franchise back 5 years.”
February 6th, 2016 at 9:19 am
Anyone making negative comments at this point is a miserable moron.
We are in a better position with our players & coaches than we have been in a LONG TIME. And we have the best offensive personnel & system in our entire history, so be positive or please shut up.
February 6th, 2016 at 9:20 am
Congratulations to my favorite player, Jameis.
February 6th, 2016 at 9:30 am
Keep the core, Doug Martin, Mike Evans, ASJ, Winston, D. Smith, Ali Marpet that’s
February 6th, 2016 at 9:50 am
LOL Erik…I always get a kick out of stuff you say about Jameis today. I always look back on that e-mail I sent you about the jersey after the draft telling you that you’re going to fall in love with this kid. I’ve actually contemplated giving you that jersey back, seeing how you’ve become such a great fan of JW. Floated it by my wife, but she won’t let me do it. I knew this kid wouldn’t let you down though.
February 6th, 2016 at 9:57 am
awwww…look at the love between Erik and 87…Jameis did that folks!!!
February 6th, 2016 at 10:10 am
Speaking for Pablo
“Hamus, Hamus, Hamus!!!”
February 6th, 2016 at 11:30 am
glad Jaemeis won and was able to overcome the hack media job that was done on him to receive such a high honor. Go bucs!
Erik,
I am impressed Jameis was able to win you over to the extent he has. might be one of the biggest 180’s in JBF history. Kuduos to you sir for your open mind.
Next year Jameis wins his first playoff game and we never see bucnut2 or OAR again.
February 6th, 2016 at 12:04 pm
Rejoice for the kingdom of Jameis is here.
February 6th, 2016 at 12:18 pm
87, u were 100% correct in your prediction that I would fall in love with Jameis. And thank you for not sending that jersey to me. Although I would wear it proudly (bcuz he’s basically my favorite player ever at this point), u totally earned it and I would feel bad accepting. I’m going to buy my own before next season for sure!
February 6th, 2016 at 12:33 pm
Congrats JW!!! You have made believers out of none believers and are single handedly turning this franchise around!!
February 6th, 2016 at 1:04 pm
Congrats to famous jameis. I am not surprised. Did anyone hear the big dog on the radio yesterday crying that jameis and his agent was doing interviews with everybody else except the “home team”. Translation….his show. I wouldnt let jameis do an interview with him either. He is always trying to be-little jameis’ accomplishments ie pro-bowl selection etc. Crying about “home team”. That agent sees right through that phony.
February 6th, 2016 at 1:26 pm
@Tiny Tim
Glad to hear his agent is doing that. I officially stopped listening after he was knocking him for his 50% completion rate in the pro bowl. I won’t even listen to the JBF hour anymore. He needs to go.
February 6th, 2016 at 1:27 pm
Congratulations Joe….both of you deserve credit. You for believing in Jameis and Winston for living up to your encouragement!!!
February 6th, 2016 at 1:34 pm
Congratulations and a big one to Jameis!! I am wearing my pink # 3 shirt today and more proud than ever!!
February 6th, 2016 at 2:10 pm
I agree with you, Tiny Tim.
It’s like he just hates that Jameis is getting all this run when he constantly downplays all that he does. Many times, he won’t even mention a major happening because he knows he’ll be flooded with Jameis talk.
February 6th, 2016 at 2:18 pm
He doesnt want to admit he was dead wrong about jameis. Do remember how much of a jack @$$ he was as it related to jameis before the draft.
February 6th, 2016 at 2:20 pm
I do remember. After he and Cris Landry blasted Jameis on every show, he decided that you couldn’t even bring up his name. Jameis is right to snub him and ESPN…I love it!!!
February 6th, 2016 at 4:39 pm
DB55 Says:
Why don’t you tell us what you really think?
February 6th, 2016 at 7:05 pm
Of course..the argument can be made Gurley deserved the honor as rookie of the year also. Hope this award does not give Jameis..THE BIG HEAD..so to speak. Don’t think it will. Just sayin….
February 6th, 2016 at 7:06 pm
Congratulations Mr. Winston! Rookie of the Year, Great job. Looking forward to your next season.
February 6th, 2016 at 7:30 pm
MJ…yah I contemplated that for about 5 seconds. Then I remembered what he said after winning the Heisman. He pretty much said the award wasn’t about him, it was about FSU. He pretty much said the same thing about this award prior to winning it. That it was about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Yes this kid is really ours for years to come. Enjoy it!
February 6th, 2016 at 8:20 pm
???????
February 6th, 2016 at 8:20 pm
Nfl network says it’s Gurley???
February 6th, 2016 at 8:31 pm
Total sham. The nfl should be ashamed of themselves
February 6th, 2016 at 8:44 pm
Jaboo got robbed
February 6th, 2016 at 8:59 pm
Jaboo was screwed by AP… Gurley had a nice season but missed too many games.
MOTIVATION
February 6th, 2016 at 9:11 pm
AWESOME
Big props to the NFL for doing that.
I honestly thought they’d pass him up for Gurley given the FSU controversies, but they didn’t, they manned up and gave it to the most deserving.
February 6th, 2016 at 9:11 pm
Im really confused???? Did Jaboo win , Or was it Girly bot Gurly????
February 6th, 2016 at 9:12 pm
Here’s a link to the NFL site stating the Winston IS Rookie of the Year (if Joe will allow it)

“Boy”
February 6th, 2016 at 9:14 pm
Gurley won OFFENSIVE rookie of the year
Jaboo WON the 2016 Pepsi Rookie of the year, baby
February 6th, 2016 at 9:18 pm
@Howard
Thanks for clearing that up…OK now I can drink to that!!!
Go Bucs…Kick @ss in 2016!!!
February 6th, 2016 at 9:20 pm
Still got snubbed
February 6th, 2016 at 9:20 pm
Gurley won the one that counts (the AP one).
Jameis won the fan vote and the honorable mentions.
February 6th, 2016 at 10:38 pm
I’m sorta glad Jameis did not win the AP rookie of the year. He was close. But Gurley is a straight up Baller. One Pepsi Rookie of the yr award is good enough. Don’t want these award things to give Jameis the..Big Head. If he continues his progress, I’m sure there will be awards galore coming his way for years to come.
February 6th, 2016 at 11:41 pm
@ Joe
you got some bad intel. it was Pepsi Rookie of the Year, not Offensive Rookie of the Year (Gurley won that). also….even if it was Offensive Rookie of the Year, how is Marcus Peters, a CB, supposed to be eligible?
come on Joes, you guys are better than that.
February 7th, 2016 at 11:20 am
Yeh Gurley posted like the 25th best rookie rushing total. His total would be third for the Bucs rookie record.
Gurley is nice but he’s not Jameis Winston. Ram’s would make that trade in a blink and might give up the first as well.
They were 6-10 last year without him and 7-9 this year, oh yeh, with the defensive player of the year. give me a break
February 7th, 2016 at 11:30 am
No he isnt
February 7th, 2016 at 1:46 pm
@ mike johnson
What are you talking about? I know you are not the biggest jameis fan and you continue to prove it. Go to his head? This kid has won awards all his life and all he has done is gotten better. Texas a&m coach said “i have never recruited a player with as many trophies as jameis has.” Stop with all tthis cautionary talk as it relates to jameis. It is totally unnecessary and is just crazy talk. He knows how to handle success. He has been doing it all his life.
February 7th, 2016 at 2:30 pm
Like I said there Tiny T….There are enough awards to go around in this league for one man not to get them all. Besides..they are only..statues..or pieces of paper made by man. Gurley did a nice job as a rookie also. Don’t get Your pitties all in a bunch because your hero missed out on one award. There will be plenty more coming his way IF..he continues his progress. All (I’m concerned about is us improving to the point where we are not laughable in the NFL. Winning is all that matters.
February 7th, 2016 at 3:04 pm
For a rb to beat out a qb for ROY, they must do something really special. Like Doug Martin did his rookie year, 1454 yards. He still didn’t beat out RGIII, (3200 passing 800 rushing BTW). Gurley is a sexy name, but he was in a run heavy offense and still only got 1100 yards. Make it about wins and ask, with the Defensive Player of the Year in Aaron Donald, how did they win but 7 games?
This is a bid to build up the new team in LA. Simple as that
February 7th, 2016 at 3:04 pm
And if the argument is, well he only did it in 13 games, lets look at what Kwon did in 12.
February 7th, 2016 at 4:18 pm
@ mike johnson
I could care less if jameis gets all the awards. That is not the point i was making. Imvtelling you to get off that “go to his head” crap. You may not know how to deal with success, but obviously jameis does. Thats why he continues to receive accolafes and perform at a high level. No need to worry about him. Take your cautionary takes some place else. Jameis does not need them and definitely not from a hater like you. Simple as that
February 7th, 2016 at 4:19 pm
Accolades
February 7th, 2016 at 5:58 pm
Congrats, Jameis! Can’t wait to see what you and Coach Koetter can do with this team next season!
