Will Jason Licht Lose His Right Hand?

Bucs general manager Jason Licht hit the extraordinarily difficult grand slam in the 2015 NFL Draft. Another draft like that and Joe will demand Licht pick the cheerleaders and the in-stadium beer, too.

But Licht does not work alone, and his right hand man could be moving on.

ESPN Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky wrote about 10 possible candidates to take over the Titans’ general manager position. Jon Robinson, the Bucs’ director of player personnel, was third on his list.

As director of college scouting for Bill Belichick, Robinson had a hand in drafting Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Nate Solder and Chandler Jones. He’s from Union City, Tennessee, and went to Air Force and Southwest Missouri State. From Rick Brown, who covers the Bucs for ESPN.com: “He is a keen evaluator of talent, having worked his way up as an area scout. He also can relate to the coaches as he was a college coach before becoming a scout. With the Bucs, he has not only helped with the team’s draft but also has done some contract negotiations.”

Robinson was hired by Licht following the 2014 NFL Draft. He and Licht were scouting comrades under Bill Belicheat in New England, where Robinson spent 12 seasons before joining the Bucs. He interviewed for the Jets’ general manager opening last year.

Joe can’t claim to know who Licht’s most valuable people are in the Bucs’ front office. But Robinson clearly has a ton of a experience with a great organization and helped knock out a stunning draft in 2015, his first draft with the Bucs.

Joe would much rather see Robinson stay and have former Bucs rockstar general manager Mark Dominik get the gig in Tennessee.

    Good catch, Joe.
This is a perfect example of something the Glazers need to address
if they want this team to improve. Pay Robinson.

  2. Trubucfan22 Says:

I don’t wish Dominik on any team. That’s just rude.

  3. Mike10 Says:

I feel like the media outcry of a crappy Titans team hiring their GM from the Buccaneers would be outrageous. The daughter is running the team, public opinion is probably the only thing she knows or cares about.

    No way that happens.

  4. Luther Says:

I do wish Dominik on another team. If it’s Tenn, that’s just too bad.

  5. FanOfBucs Says:

Every player or coach who is positive MUST STAY!

Glazers, don’t be cheap, don’t be stupid.

another sexist comment from a misogynist on joebucsfan.

  7. Pawel Says:

At least he already got the draft board ready for 2016.

  8. Buc1987 Says:

Trubucfan22…thanks for the much needed laugh.

  9. Sunny Says:

The funny thing is how Joe still uses rockstar . . . Lol , MD isn’t half the GM JL is

  10. Clodhopper Says:

I think Licht would be great at hiring a head coach. Let’s give it try shall we!!

  11. lightningbuc Says:

Funny how Lovie and Licht have the same record as employees of the Bucs, but some are infatuated with Licht. Count me as unimpressed.

  12. Mike10 Says:

Lurker, don’t bring that ignorant feminism here. Save it for your Prius and Hillary bumper sticker.

It has nothing to do w a woman. And everything to do with the fact hat she has no idea what she is doing as has been reported by Chris Landry and Bill Polian after she impulsively and inexplicably fired Ken Wisenhunt mid season of Mariota’s first year. But I was assuming I was talking to educated football fans that already knew that. So get back to trolling the Lovie vote for “very confident”.

“Bucs general manager Jason Licht hit the extraordinarily difficult grand slam in the 2015 NFL Draft.” – Joe

Lovie Smith hit the grand slam. Licht handled free agency. All aspects of it.

Disappointed…thought this was a masturbation article.

    @lurker

    girls are stoopid

I hope that was sarcasm. If not u may be the slowest person on this site and a sorry excuse for a football fan. LOVIE was the one with the idea to bring in every ex bears and cowboys players. Licht did a great job in the draft. Remember he was a member of the NE and ARI front office. (Whom I think are 2 of the top 5 teams in the league) he helped draft those teams. Lovie was probably half asleep from round 1-3 he woke up for round 4 then went back to sleep.

  16. Bucfan951 Says:

^yeah because lovie is soooo good at picking offensive players. Smh.

  17. ndog Says:

Saying it right now I want DeForest Buckner in the draft. The dude from Oklahoma State looks slow and lacked any pass rush moves. While Buckner has shown ability, effort, and smarts in this bowl game. Last year I wanted Jameis and we got it right, hopefully Licht goes two for two listening to me. He he he.

  18. Espo Says:

    @ Lurker

Don’t be so sensitive. The comment sure looked like it was directed towards the individual actually mentioned, and not towards half the population. For instance, when I say YOUR reading comprehension needs improvement, I’m referring to YOU, not lurkers everywhere.

  19. lurker Says:

    seriously…smh

way to go knuckledraggers. you know nothing of the situation. no surprise that the hate-filled, ignorant, small-minded republican rants are here.

there are quite a few misogynists, racists, h0m0phobes on this site. most are probably of the same ilk as trump.

  20. godzilla13 Says:

@ Nodog Says – “Saying it right now I want DeForest Buckner in the draft.” Dog, we play a 4-3, not a 3-4. No way we draft Buckner. He can do both but is more of a run stopper than a pass rusher. A la William Gholston. If the Ravens or Jaguars can win we would pick at number 7 or 8. That would give us possibly a shot at Vernon Hargreaves III, CB, Florida. If he is off the board we should draft (6-5, 296 pounds), Robert Nkemdiche, DT, Ole Miss. If both the Titans and the Jets interviewed Jon Robinson and if he really is the brains behind Jason Licht, maybe we should promote Robinson to GM?

  21. ndog Says:

Vh3 is overrated and I would not touch either him or Ramsey and I am A FSU fan. We need to pick the best impact player and that would be Buckner hands down, enough of that scheme crap just pick the best player. Cadillac is what we needed so was Marcus Jones, Regan Upshaw, Gaines Adams, etc… Pick the best player and get better.

  22. "TheKevin" Says:

    @buccaneer bonzai

You can’t explain your logic to these idiots.

Anything good is because of licht and anything bad is because of LOVIE.

These complete stupid morons in this site don’t understand what it means to have COMPLETE AND FINAL SAY ON PLAYER PERSONNELL.

EVEN THE JOES. LOVIE HAS FINAL SAY ON ALL PLAYERS INCLUDINT THE DRAFT.

BUT YOU CANT TALK SENSE INTO IDIOTS.

  23. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

LOL, Chip Kelly will save us, from the loss of Jon Robinson to Tennessee.
Kelly is going to Tennessee, where he will be both GM and Coach (I hope).

  24. Razor Ramone Says:

I think the Lurker is really Tom Jones from tbt.

  25. orlbucfan Says:

Being either male or female (or in-between LOL) has no monopoly on stupidity. Plenty of it exists in the ownership ranks. Nepotism reigns supreme. Hope Bucs hit a few homers in drafting for the D next April. Go Bucs!!

  26. Johnny "America's Commenter" Dejay Says:

Dominick going to Tennessee would be a fair consequence for the way the Titans embarrassed the Bucs on opening day. He will be sure to keep that team out of playoff contention for the next decade.
