Lavonte David To Eat Pineapple
January 25th, 2016For two years, Bucs linebacker Lavonte David, deeply irked he has not been named to a Pro Bowl, has gone on a public campaign to have this wrong righted.
David went so far as to go to Phoenix last year and make the rounds at Radio Row the Super Bowl to lobby to get his name out there, thinking that because he has played on such garbage teams, he has been overlooked.
That really stood out because David is not a flowering personality. He’d rather walk away from microphones and the klieglights of TV cameras than walk to them.
Don’t take that the wrong way: David is a really cool dude, but he is more introvert that extrovert. So for David to start a public relations campaign in such a manner told Joe how ticked off he was as the annual snub.
Well, all of that is about to end. All of David’s hard work on the field, and biting the bullet and getting his name out there off the field, appears to have paid off. Getlin of NFL.com noted David will be eating pineapple this week at the Pro Bowl in Honolulu.
Joe doffs his cap to David. It’s been a long time coming. Too long. Also late last night, the Bucs also announced Logan Mankins will join David and Gerald McCoy and Doug Martin in the Pro Bowl.
Hopefully, this will finally bury the memory for too many that still associate David with his lone bonehead late-hit penalty against the Jets, not his stellar play year after year.

I hope to meet him on the island this week.

I really don’t think anyone besides Joe remembers that okay. Do you remember Trent Dilfer’s first int? Do you remember Sapp’s first touching the passer? At least David’s hit was close. There was a late hit last night on the sideline the Zebras didn’t even call that was blatant. David’s late hit in his first game was a non factor to his pro bowl aspirations. Jersey or not.

Sapps first “roughing” the passer.

Agreed with MT. LET IT GO JOE!!!
You really think anyone of the “national” media realm really pays enough attention to the Bucs as to remember that beyond questionable call on David? Hell, I saw blatant late hits out of bounds in both games yesterday that weren’t called, and i could give a crap less as to who made them much less honestly remember who did them on teams I otherwise pay no real attention to…and what is “doffs his cap?” Shouldn’t you be tipping ur hat to him? What is doffing ur hat? What r u, gaming on the side while ur typing these up lol

@MT Tom
That wasn’t his first game

I don’t remember Trent’s first INT but I remember the Giants game early one season during Dungy’s tenure when he threw 4 INTs against the Giants and we lost even though the defense smothered NY’s offense.

If Lavonte David boycotted, the shame of what the Pro Bowl has become. I would understand.

THe Pro Bowl use to mean something..back in the day. Now, I would not give you a nickel for it. More so a popularity contest and a free vacation for a select group of players. Most real NFL fans don’t even watch the game anymore.

Joe if you didn’t tell me the Pro Bowl was this week. I would have never known. I doff my cap to Mike Johnson for once, I agree. The Pro Bowl to me has always been something that I just happened upon, by flipping the channels out of boredom on a football-less weekend. I’d go “oh the Pro Bowl’s on”. Watch it for about a 1/2 an hour then walk away.

“I really don’t think anyone besides Joe remembers that okay.”
I remember that play and was reminded about throughout the year. It was a big enough deal to the media that it played into his non-selection to the Pro Bowl.

Congrats LVD! Glad he finally reached his dream. Hopefully the next step is DMVP on a once again great buccaneer defense.

Who’s your favorite player? Mr. #54.
Congrats LVD!!!!
Hopefully next year we can have 8 pro bowlers if we add The Messiah, ME, VJ, and Kwon.
