Koetter Says More Bucs Need To Care Like Jameis
January 15th, 2016After his introductory news conference today, new Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter sat down for a cozy chat with Joe and several media members.
Joe asked Koetter about the end-of-season, passionate ranting of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.
For those who missed it, Jameis told media after the loss to Carolina that coaches wanted to win more than some players. Soon after, Jameis said he would lead a mentality change in the organization.
Joe asked Koetter whether he was on board with Jameis’ message.
Koetter said he thought Jameis’ comments should be put into context given that they were after a tough loss following a late-season collapse, for a frustrated QB who wasn’t used to losing. But Koetter said Jameis is the gold standard on the roster.
“I know the kind of passion Jameis has for winning,” Koetter said. I know the kind of heart he plays with on the field. That’s one thing you couldn’t judge in the scouting tapes when we were getting ready. I skyrocketed my opinion of Jameis when I learned about that first-hand. (Koetter’s hand shot quickly into the air.)
“I think we, as a team, we need to have more players that play with the same heart and passion as Jameis. All players want to win. I’m not going to break down every single word he said, but across the board, could we play with more heart and passion? Do we need more players that take it as personal as Jameis? Yes.”
Powerful and telling take there from the new head coach.

That’s one reason I’m glad they hired Koetter instead of bringing in a new coach because he already has an idea of the players that need to go.

The best thing to happen to this woeful franchise since the Super Bowl.
Jameis Winston.

At least Koetter will answer a question with a straight answer……not some coy skirt around the edges BS….
And…..I expect on occasion I think we’ll get a “no comment”….and that is fine because some questions deserve that.
January 15th, 2016 at 4:20 pm
The door needs to start swinging.
January 15th, 2016 at 4:21 pm
There is the opportunity for a major shift by the Buccaneers, in terms of positive approach and attitude coming from Jameis, Dirk and down the roster.
That needs to happen.
Hiring Coach Mike Smith as DC is a great move. He will rework the basic defense, instill accountability and a toughness that Lovie never did. He will also be an experienced shoulder to lean on for Dirk to counsel.

I don’t know, not much soda fits in a ketchup cup. Ask for a water cup and fill it with soda. Many do it.

chip the dip gets 4 years $24 million from the 49ers…seems a bit much. and there is no way trent all abaalk(m)e gives him any personnel power. they had to overpay?
koetter gets a 5 year deal.
January 15th, 2016 at 5:18 pm
The hiring of Koetter last year along with the draft of Jameis was the beginning of something special that will evolve right in front of Bucs fans eyes.
The best is yet to come.

I cleaned my house today, I imagine Koetter will doing he same here soon!!

87
But, but BB guns and squirrels!!!!
Wow 87 I’ve heard of sore losers before but sore winners? Why can’t you let it go? Why bring up any of those UNFORTUNATE incidents. Do you suppose in your wildest fantasies that ANYONE connected with Fameis’ camp would want you to dredge up those BAD memories.
WTF is with you?
January 15th, 2016 at 8:42 pm
SPBF he’s bringing it up because to MANY on this website those were not “unfortunate” incidents, they were the actions of a thug who was on the path to mass murder.
There were people on this site that didn’t call it a BB gun fight, they said Jameis had “a past with guns.” There were people who brought up the squirrel hunt and equated it to serial killers starting off with animal mutilation. There were people on this site that said when Jameis said a curse word in public that it was reason enough alone to not draft the kid.
I know you remember those posts because you made some of them
January 15th, 2016 at 8:53 pm
Nope Creamsickle I NEVER said we shouldn’t draft the kid. I did say we shouldn’t let a bunch of rabid FSU Alumni make the decision and that due diligence was paramount.
The Bucs did their due diligence and I was on board.
Anybody who thinks all the stuff swirling around Fameis before the draft was not worth investigating simply bleeds Garnet and Gold.
Virtually EVERYBODY in football said Fameis required a special investigation because of the NUMBER of transgressions. In fact I recall specifically saying that none of these by themselves aroused so much concern as to the actual NUMBER of events which I agree were simple immaturity.
Why wouldn’t somebody want to make sure first? We’re talking about a multi million dollar investment and the future of the franchise.
As to those who used words like “thug” I was among the loudest to condemn that as nothing but racism….same for all the Jamarcus Winston and Jameis Leftwich posters. Those were all totally inappropriate and I mentioned it at the time.
And so that leaves several groups of people who did not want to pick JW.
Those who wanted to trade down. I disagree and obviously hindsight is 20-20 and they were wrong.
Those who thought JW tossed too many ints or was too slow, had a bad motion..whatever…so far they too have been proved wrong.
Those who simply believed MM was a better choice. The verdict on that is a LONG waaay from being decided although I personally think we made the RIGHT choice even IF MM plays as well as JW. We needed #3’s fire.
And finally those who were simply racist.
Why would anybody waste their time responding to that last group of losers?
Why lower yourself to THEIR standards and realize those people are long gone.
As for the other groups what 87 posted is nothing more than classless gloating… I can save you guys the time…simply cut and paste this everytime you guys feel the need to say “I told you so”…
NEENER…NEENER It’s shorter, more to the point and more indictative of the posters motivation.

StPeteBucsFan – “Virtually EVERYBODY in football said Fameis required a special investigation because of the NUMBER of transgressions.”
Sorry but that was media BS! That’s ESecPN living in click bait story world and other outlets simply joining in rather than taking the time to actually find out facts (obviously you included along with many, many others here).
That soda and ketchup cup story? NEVER VERIFIED!! AFTER the assault accusation came out someone from a Tally Burger King came forward with that story saying Jameis had done that during his freshman year. Putting aside the fact that it likely happened multiple times a day at a college fast food joint(!) – Yeah, no one outside of hardcore FSU football fans even knew his name, forget knowing his face and remembering it a year later!
The BB gun shooting at the apartments? The apartment manager himself stated he didn’t see Jameis with a BB gun when that happened. He just said Jameis was there but he did see other players with the BB guns. Well, yeah. Jameis lived at those apartments with many other football players and like probably every other resident there was outside to see what was taking place. Could he have participated? Possibly but no one actually said he did! Just that he was there!
The shouted ‘obsenity’? Jameis was with his own friends at the time and they were singing/repeating a popular meme that was being done All Over the Country at that time. The ONLY reason the press heard about it was they were monitoring (stalking really) the Twitter feeds of FSU students (any and all students) for any mention of Jameis Winston. Media groups were willing to pay money to students for anything on him! Even then, the couple of students who tweeted out seeing JW and his friends thought it was funny and refused to cooperate. There has never before (in modern college football) been a player suspended for cursing! If that was the norm there would be NO college players OR coaches in the entire system!
“Anybody who thinks all the stuff swirling around Fameis before the draft was not worth investigating simply bleeds Garnet and Gold.” Yeah, we bleed Garnet & Gold but we were also the only ones screaming the truth about Jameis Winston in every media outlet we could find! No one wanted to hear or know the real truth about Jameis because it wasn’t a scandalous story that would bring in readers. People like YOU were much happier with the implications, innuendos and outright lies told and repeated all over the internet and print media.
The actual and simple truth is that Jameis Winston has not ‘settled down’ or ‘turned around’ or ‘drastically matured’. Jameis is the same person he’s always been. He loves kids and always spent extra time before and after games or events to speak and sign for them JUST like he does now only now he gets headlines for it! He’s still the same passionate, hungry player that he’s always been but now there are those who don’t want the negative narrative bandied about so you all say ‘Jameis has changed’. ‘Jameis has matured.’ ‘Jameis has learned to behave himself.’ That’s the BS you choose to spout because you refuse to admit you were ever WRONG about him!
IF Jameis was all those terrible things that required investigation into his background and character, it would have come out and the Bucs would not have drafted him! People with those characters flaws don’t/can’t change. There would have been indications of those issues all throughout his life. From childhood to high school and not just in college. His coaches and teammates for all those years and currently with the Bucs would have seen it. Would feel it and NOT WANT to follow his lead. All that media garbage always WAS and IS GARBAGE! People like you simply choose to believe it rather than find out the truth for yourself.
Go Jameis! Go NOLES!! Go Bucs!

LOL C’mon!
“mass murder?” 🙂
So some chick claims he got too handsy with her (not even enough for a grand jury to issue an indictment) and the dude is the next Charles Manson???
Someone really needs to lay off the scotch!
January 16th, 2016 at 7:40 am
I’m not sure comments should be longer than the article…
January 16th, 2016 at 7:50 am
Good work Jena!
January 16th, 2016 at 8:43 am
Lol comments longer than the article
January 16th, 2016 at 11:16 am
Yes Jena great work. We see you’ve totally mastered hyperbole.
Again…I love #3. He proved both is on field ability (to stop ints) and his off field character showing us that ALL of those things were just immaturity.
I doubt this will get through your thick skulls but JW lovers this is NOT what JW or his support team want to hear. TRUST ME!!!
THEY DO NOT WANT YOU BRINGING ANY OF THIS STUFF UP.
They want ALL of us to simply forget about this and move on!!!
Why you all feel the need to relitigate something that clearly does NOT reflect well on #3 no matter HOW freaking hard you try. Fameis himself is not proud of this part of his life.
And no JENA it was NOT just pundits…unless you call former NFL GM’s and coaches pundits. Anybody who would have drafted #3 WITHOUT all the due diligence would have been committing business malpractice!!!
JUST….LET…..IT…..GO!!!! He’s our QB…we love him. Stop reminding us of this time in his life which was not his finest hour!!! Let’s enjoy him now!!!
January 16th, 2016 at 1:19 pm
Yes, stpete was definitely a poster that was against the drafting of jameis. Its funny how he is “misremembering” now. This is the real tiny tim
January 16th, 2016 at 2:00 pm
Again with Winston and all that BS? I’m a woman and I couldn’t care less about the accusations that almost destroyed his reputation. We have the best judiciary in the world and said system hasn’t found him guilty of anything. That’s quite enough as far as I’m concerned. As for the rest, who hasn’t made juvenile mistakes? I know I did. Maturity isn’t something that you automatically grasp as soon as you turn 18 or 21. Some people need a few wake up calls, like Winston.
January 16th, 2016 at 2:47 pm
@TinyTim
Well then I surely bow to your “memory” because any poster so good he has fakes or clones and has to identify himself as “real” must be right.
January 16th, 2016 at 2:48 pm
BTW
When you attack another poster and do not address the actual topic that is known as an “ad hominem” attack. Not respected among people who actually know how to debate.
Try the issue Tiny and tell me specifically what I said that was incorrect…other than YOUR memory of how I felt during the draft debate.
