How about your Buccaneers making an impact in the community!

Joe was sweating in the sun on Thursday watching Leonard Johnson, Doug Martin, Keith Tandy and Demar Dotson answer questions from Clearwater kids and exercise with them as part of the NFL’s Play 60 program, highlighted by the Buccaneers presenting a $10,000 check to fund youth programs.

The players had very different stories but similar messages. (more…)

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Donovan Smith Got Roasted

Friday, May 15th, 2015
Harsh words for the Bucs' new left tackle, from those who know his game well.

Harsh words for the Bucs’ new left tackle, from those who watched his games.

Researching all things Buccaneers, as Joe does daily, Joe found a troubling podcast in which a former NFL offensive lineman and a Penn State beat writer skewer Bucs rookie left tackle Donovan Smith. (more…)

Winston Fits Bucs’ Puzzle

jameis 0508b

Joe scoffs at the wet nurses out there who didn’t want the Bucs to draft a quarterback because the guy might bust out.

This just in: Any position might bust out. Roughly 50 percent of first-round picks are flops, regardless of position. (more…)

BucsfansAnother cool thing about Ring of Honor inductions is that they help sell tickets.

Afterwards, Joe had a chance to catch up to a sweaty Doug Martin. (more…)

Fair Or Foul?

Jameisrookie2

Earlier this week, iconic former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden nearly broke Twitter when he referred to “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, as an “embarrassment in a lot of ways” when he played at FSU. (more…)

Better Break Tackles

Friday, May 15th, 2015
doug martin 1008

The thinktank Football Outsiders has data showing Doug Martin goes down way too easily.

While it is cool to have a total roadgrading offensive line, that’s often wishful thinking.

Therefore, for a running back to thrive in the NFL, he either has to be super elusive, or be a Ford F-150 and bounce off would-be tacklers. (more…)

Maybe Lansanah Should Be Worried?

Friday, May 15th, 2015
Bucs OLB Danny Lansanah may have competition this summer.

Bucs OLB Danny Lansanah may have competition this summer.

Joe remembers the immediate moments after the Bucs selected LSU linebacker Kwon Alexander in the fourth round. Bucs starting strongside linebacker Danny Lansanah Twittered, “KEEP DOUBTING ME!!!”

Later, when Joe went back to use it for a story, the Twitter post was gone. (more…)

Chucky: “Dirk Koetter Is The Wild Card”

Thursday, May 14th, 2015

KoetterdownYes, Jon Gruden, the heralded Chucky, seems to “love” about 97 percent of players in the NFL. That’s his BSPN shtick. He luvvvvs that guy (insert name).

But if you can wade through all the gushing, sometimes you’ll find telling kernels. (more…)

Williams Paid Homage To Selmon

Thursday, May 14th, 2015
Former Bucs QB Doug Williams had kind words to say about his former teammate, the late great Lee Roy Selmon yesterday.

Former Bucs QB Doug Williams had kind words for his former teammate, the late great Lee Roy Selmon yesterday.

Yeah, it was a cool day yesterday when both Doug Williams and Mike Alstott were announced for the Ring of Honor. That was one helluva curveball Team Glazer threw by surprising everyone with Alstott.

Not that Alstott is a surprise. He is most deserving. Just that no one expected two honorees in one season, and already leaked about Williams. (more…)

Smith: Koetter Will Help A Lot

Thursday, May 14th, 2015

evan-dietrich-smith-0820-e1408542354784Does Joe really need to recount how miserable the offense of the Bucs was last year?

Virtually no running game. No quarterback. Defenders blowing through the offensive line like a cattle stampede. (more…)

Bo Jackson A Big Jameis Booster

Thursday, May 14th, 2015
Bo Jackson, who is also from Jameis Winston's hometown, seems geeked over Jameis leading the Bucs.

Bo Jackson, who is from Jameis Winston’s hometown, seems genuinely geeked over Jameis leading the Bucs.

Joe thought it was awfully ironic — you will see that word again shortly — that on the very same radio show in which Bobby Bowden verbally wagged a finger at “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, the legendary Bo Jackson also appeared and spoke about Jameis.

For unaware, Jackson, like Jameis, is from Bessemer, Ala. Like Jameis, Jackson won a Heisman Trophy. Like Jameis, Jackson was the first overall pick in the draft. Like Jameis, Jackson was selected by the Bucs. (more…)

He’s Still Lunch Pail Mike

Wednesday, May 13th, 2015

Throat was trembling, the lower lip was quivering. Eyes welling up were around the corner.
