“That’s Selfish”
December 14th, 2015Whoa!
Even-keeled, level-headed and Xs-and-Os-minded former Buccaneer Dave Moore was one fired up guy yesterday during the Bucs’ sad performance at the Den of Depression.
For those unaware, Moore is the color man alongside legendary Buccaneers radio voice Gene Deckerhoff.
During the game broadcast, Moore was upset by Mike Evans’ back-to-back penalties in the fourth quarter, the second of which was a senseless personal foul that saw Evans rip off a defender’s helmet.
Moore bellowed, “That’s selfish!” and went on a rant about how Evans can’t put himself first like he did.
Joe wrote earlier about how Akeem Spence drew rare ire from Lovie Smith and was yanked from a game for a stunt like that this year. Ali Marpet saw Lovie get in his face, too. But Mike Evans, it feels like nobody is getting through to this guy.
Coaches say they don’t talk to Evans about drops because they know he’s trying to catch the football. And now it feels like me-first penalties are a taboo topic, too. Also, when Evans vowed to end his “dramatic” whining to officials two weeks ago, he phrased it as if he reached that conclusion himself and it wasn’t a coach who told him to stop.
Joe has a suggestion, and Joe suspects it will happen soon. America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, will step up and lay the law down to Evans.

He’s a diva just like all WRs are. He lost himself and it hurt the team. This was the first time his emotion/dramatics really hurt the team. It cost us on that drive, and possibly the game. I’m not going to condemn the guy he knows he fudged up. I’m hoping this season is a wake up call for him. I expect him to come back next season prepared and determined to be a better player and teammate. We are going to need him to be those things.

Lets talk about the BS OPI call though, might be literally the worst I have ever seen

Once you get a rep in this league it is hard to shake it. Before every game the opposing coaches meet with the refs to discuss potential issues they see on film. Evans is on their radar every week based on his history. He needs to work on his technique or this will dog him his whole career. I hope he figures it out, because he is very talented and we need him.

You’re telling me that the coaches dont talk about his main issue because they know he’s trying?…. Really? How is he suppose to correct the issue if they dont at least attempt to help him correct it? It might be just me but that seems ridiculous.

Honestly it might be time to think about shopping him to cleveland so he can be happy with his best bud jff. His mind just isnt right and it seems him and jameis are not clicking. 2nd and a 4th sounds good to me.

It is ridiculous Couch. Speaks to a locker room where there is no accountability to be found.

Great pt Couch. Especially for a guy that’s relatively inexperienced in terms of years he’s played football.

Evans came into the league with a diva attitude and it’s rearing its ugly head now. I can see Winston body language and he is getting tired of the antics and constantly having to calm him down. That being said Evan didn’t loose the game. The defense takes the majority of the blame. Hightower couldn’t be stopped consistently. When the Saints said we are going to run the ball and the Bucs defense could not sack up and stop them period.

I’ve noticed a pattern with Lovie, he will only discipline players he’s not married to. The ones he is married to get a golden pass.

Time for an intervention.
Bring in team leaders, coaches, family, GM and owners

This has got to be the most frustrating season Evans has ever played. I’m sure in Highschool and of course college, he’s never struggled this much. He’s got to learn how to manage those emotions while still keep that fiery passion about the game.
I remember hearing that Hines Ward was one of the dirtiest players out on the field. You’d never know it since he’s always smiling and he hardly got penalized. Maybe Evans can learn to manage his aggression the same way.

@Couch Fan
That’s ridiculous right?! Not talking to someone about what they’re bad at because he or she is trying to do better (presumably) seems counter-intuitive. It stands to reason, then, that the coaches are also not talking with the players about committing dumb penalties. That’s like a wife saying about her cheating husband, “I don’t talk to him about cheating because I know he’s trying to stop.” Ridiculous…

Evans is having a bad season, and he’s probably incredibly frustrated. He seemed to put in a bunch of work in the offseason (with Randy Moss), and it just hasn’t been paying off. I’m sure he’s pressing, which almost never works. This is a team sport, but these guys want to play well individually. They have lots of pride, and huge egos. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it can be if it hurts the team. What Evans really needs is for this season to end. I suspect he’ll be much better next year when he can start fresh.
One thing that just kills me is that we just can’t seem to get all of our good players to pay well together. Last year Evans was a beast, but Doug was below average. Banks played well last year, but this year he can’t beat out an undrafted rookie. McCoy hasn’t had a good season, whereas Charles Sims has been really good. If everyone could just play to their potential (and stay moderately healthy), I think we have the core to be a good football team. However, at some point it has to happen. It seems like consistency is our enemy.

Evans is the same clown that last year said he had no idea he was supposed to switch the ball to his left hand when running down the left sideline. Helluva good coaching job over there at One Buc!

Mike Clayton Evans kinda sounds like a guy without too much going on upstairs which is fine I suppose if he wasn’t also dropping passes and creating negative plays that hurt the team.
December 14th, 2015 at 5:43 pm
Pisses me off that I bought his jersey.
December 14th, 2015 at 8:41 pm
I’ve heard in interviews that the guy is staying hours after practice catching tons of balls in different scenarios wet with lights etc.. I’m not overly concerned about the drops even the greats have had the drops at times. What does concern me and always has, off and on the field is his immaturity and inability to control his emotions.

Do you honestly think Evans would be acting like this if Belichik was the coach? Apparently despite all the coaches, no one has chewed him out like he deserves. Dude is a lazy, arrogant punk that only cares about himself. Trade him and ASJ and get players that care or at least play to their potential. Sick of watching these frauds.

‘Dude’s got no poise nor mental toughness.

I don’t like this guys character- trade him to Cleveland for their high #1 and maybe some other picks or players. Let him play with his good buddy- yhey’re made for each other
December 15th, 2015 at 9:34 am
Mike, I kind of agree but I doubt Cleveland is gonna part with their top 3 overall pick for Evans. Perhaps they would give what the bucs gave up for Kellen Winslow though: that being a very high #2 and a later round pick like their early 5th that could be packaged together to move into the late first round… I see the Brownies nibbling at that bait, heck i’d even take just the high #2 as the browns are 3-10 and likely to pick in the top 3 next spring unless Johhny M actually wins out and even then it would still be a top 10 pick…..
