Tempers Flaring

Has words with assistant coach.

Joe has already written about how several Buccaneers, including defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, said the team was “flat” yesterday.

For so much at stake and so much on the line, Joe still cannot fathom how a team can come out of the locker room as if they were going to punch a timeclock at some telemarketing outfit.

Well, apparently there was passion on the sidelines. Thanks to good guy Gil Arcia at TheBayCave.com, he captured a televised moment on the sideline where fiery defensive line coach Joe Cullen and GMC got into a heated debate and two players, one of them is Clinton McDonald in street clothes, had to get between them.

Joe only wishes there was half that passion on the field.

As Joe wrote earlier, several members of the Bucs confessed the team was flat, and that tells Joe that unlike with the MRSA, the locker room of the Bucs has yet to be deloused of the losing culture.

The stadium was full and the Bucs came out flat again. When this happens over and over it slowly thin out the fan base. The team had all the motivation to make a push for the playoffs and just looked disinterested for most of the game. That coupled with the usual piss pour officiating = another loss.

  2. Mike10 Says:

Why is McCoy yelling w a coach versus another player

  3. Mike10 Says:

is it weird to anyone else that McCoy is yelling w a coach as opposed to another player? He’s supposed to be a leader.

  4. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Players get into spats with coaches all the time. They were glorifying it last night with Brady. A player getting into it with a coach is normal. It probably happens every day behind the scenes, with every team.

  5. BucFan20 Says:

If Washington does get in as it looks like they will, just enjoy that playoff game and remember it was Lovie’s great defense that helped put them there.

Why do so many look for any little thing to get on McCoy about? It’s pathetic. So he argued with a line coach, who cares?!?!?!!?

    Happens all the time.

  7. BrooklynBucsFan Says:

I actually like seeing a little fire on the sidelines. It’s time for these guys to get pissed off at their play. Maybe that will carry over to the Rams game? I hope so. Go Bucs!

  8. Pierce Says:

I wonder if they were flat or just over thinking. I’d like to think the latter considering it was the biggest game of the year

  9. Mike10 Says:

Easy Dave, don’t take it personal, and Hawaiian you’re right, however, McCoy ain’t no Brady.

I would like to see 93 channeling that aggression towards either the opposing lineman (not usually linemen), and his fellow defensive lineman. I saw ZERO pressure from the defensive line yesterday and ridiculously long third down conversions being converted as Bree’s enjoyed a cup of gatorade.

McCoy is propped up to be a superstar. Watch Watt w one hand. That’s a superstar who is ALWAYS double teamed and is still disruptive almost every play. I know you saw that Hawaiian.

  10. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Mike10,

I never said he was Brady. You connected those dots.

I don’t know what in the hell you were watching last night, but Watt was incredibly ineffective yesterday, as was McCoy. There’s damn articles about it this morning!!! Either you didn’t watch the game, or you just think no one else saw the game. A defensive lineman isn’t going to be effective with one hand. They use their hands to shed blocks!!!!! It’s like a running back playing with a bad leg or a QB playing with a separated shoulder. Speaking of shoulders, McCoy also has a messed up shoulder as well.

You could say McCoy shouldn’t have played and I wouldn’t disagree. However, I’m sure the team felt he was better with the injuries than everyone else at full strength. It’s hard to say if that’s true or not, because they got no pressure with Mccoy, nor did they get pressure without McCoy. Yesterday was the first time I’ve seen McCoy get 1 on 1 blocking and still not be able to do anything, so obviously the Saints knew he was ineffective as well. I do, however, admire the fact that McCoy wants to be out there. That’s what you want from your players. Would you rather have him say he’s not going to play unless he’s 100% (the last time someone on the Bucs said that, he was crucified for it)? He’s playing through pain you or I can’t comprehend, where he could very easily take the game off. But instead of appreciating his heart, we all love to blast him for not being himself. He’s not going to be himself the rest of the year. But he’s no worse than anyone else on that line at 50%. That’s the problem.

  11. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

McCoy was yelling at the entire defensive line, telling them they need to start playing like men. Joe Cullen was telling him to back the “F” off. McCoy gestured toward the bench and said “They need to step up!”

I can understand McCoy’s frustrations. Here he was injured but still playing (and not playing “flat”) and after being there for his team, they were letting him down.

Frankly, the fact that Joe Cullen doesn’t want him trying to get them off their butts shows us exactly where the problem is…Joe Cullen.

  12. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I wouldn’t doubt it is McCoy told Joe Cullen to motivate them if he didn’t want him to.

  13. Tnew Says:

I saw gmc taking an asschewing in that clip, not so much of an argument. Due to the monetary implications of gmc, he must start balling. If he’s too hurt, IR him. He seems to be in a huge mental funk to me. Liked being the defacto team leader. I want him more than anything to find his motor again, otherwise we are just counting the years of his contract.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

I think joe Cullen knew gmc cant beat him or anyone else on the dline so he told him to stfu and just play….as coach once told me, “we only need but so many coaches, we need players making plays”…I was telling to see Cullen stand toe to toe with gmc and not back down….I couldn’t see that happening to suh, watt or atkins…GO BUCS!!!

  15. RachelWatson'sthong Says:

Surprised Red Stripe didn’t injure a vocal cord that required a minor procedure.

  16. Clw JB Says:

I thought McDaniel/Melton looked very good…GMc should sit until healed, he helped little to none yesterday
As to the “fire” , only one side had fire and it certainly was not the palyer

  17. Soggy Says:

I can not tell who it is setting on the bench with the black cap on but it look’s like he think’s it’s funny..

I will allow you to rejoice in your own misery.

  19. loggedontosay Says:

In order to be a leader you have to perform on the field which McCoy cannot do.

@BuccaneerBonzai Says – “McCoy was yelling at the entire defensive line, telling them they need to start playing like men. Joe Cullen was telling him to back the “F” off”. How the #%&$ do you know what Joe Cullen said? Anyone can make up what they think was said. To me it looks like Joe Cullen is saying to GMC “Stop lolly gagging around and talking to the other team like you like each other and show some passion for the game”. The guy in the cap must be Howard Jones because its all the starters right there on the bench. GMC, Henry Melton, Akeem Spence then Howard Jones? I wonder if it was before or after Howard Jones cost the team the game with his hands to the face penalty.

  21. FortMyersDave Says:

Would everyone rather see pics of GMC smiling and laughing, helping opposing players up and exchanging pleasantries with Drew Brees after the loss????? The guys shows a bit of heart and the trolls still want a piece of him…. The GMC haters are just as bad as the crowd who have it in for Winston though I believe a lot of them are closet NFC East fans; wishing that their team tanked to 2-14 last year instead of 4-12 or 6-10 like their G-Men and deadskins did…..

  22. orlbucfan Says:

The trolls are just attention-seeking idiotic gas bags. Sites like this put up with them cos they attract ad $$$$$$s.
