“It’s A Drug That You Can’t Live Without”
December 8th, 2015Lovie Smith is hardly the most interesting man in the world.
At his news conference yesterday, Lovie admitted to taking his wife to Culver’s to celebrate Sunday’s victory. Joe’s guessing grilled cheese and vanilla ice cream.
But Lovie has a little edge to him.
He gets fired up in the locker room after victories, and Lovie told his radio show audience last night that postgame emotion is his addiction.
“There’s nothing like a locker room after a big win, any win,” Lovie told the Buccaneers Radio Network. “All wins are big, especially where we are. Because it’s just genuine. It’s real emotion that you see. And everybody is so excited for, you know, the next person. And to come together as a team like that is just, you know, it’s a drug that you can’t live without.”
Hearing the raw passion in Lovie’s voice makes Joe think of how miserable the head coach must have felt last season, when nothing worked — other than losing for the Chase for Jameis.
It’s also noteworthy that Lovie talks about players being excited for other players. If that’s really what Lovie is seeing, then the Bucs have a hell of a healthy chemistry brewing.

It was a tale of Murphy’s law for the Bucs last season. With all that being said, Lovie ended up doing the right thing in the end by tanking for the #1 pick and securing a STAR who will make this franchise RELEVANT for YEARS TO COME!!
So much for all those tales about Lovie Smith losing the locker room!! hahahaha!! Must have gotten all that supposed “inside info” when she was skiing(allegedly) in Colorado! LOL!! *sigh* KIDS these days…. Gotta love em!!
LET’S GO BUCS!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!

They say contact losing makes the wins that much sweeter. Well, yesterday I’m driving in my work truck listening to sirius radio. They play Gene’s play by play of David getting that pick. I got filled with hype. I was screaming and pumping my fists and punching the roof of the truck. I got goose bumps and a little tear from having so much energy and excitement and emotion and no way to release it in the truck. All it was was a regular old fashioned win that happens 8 times a week in the NFL, but after the last few years it was so big, so huge to sweep a division foe and go .500 in December. It was a great feeling and I have apologies for it. Lovie is right on, on this one. It’s a great feeling and it’s addictive!!

@ClodHopper you nailed it man. I was in the stadium with my portable radio that I always take in, specifically to listen to Gene’s play-by-plays (in my opinion, the best sports radio announcer of all time). I was a little emotional myself after the Mike Evans TD/Interception by Lavonte David, my eyes started to tear up a little bit due to pure joy and euphoria. I haven’t felt that excited inside of Raymond James in a long time… I am expecting many more moments like the one we saw on Sunday.
