Is Logan Mankins A Pro Bowler?

First, let Joe start this post by ordering everyone to perform their civic duty by casting Pro Bowl votes right here.

Panthers fans are doing it in droves. So where the hell are you?

There are Buccaneers worthy of your Pro Bowl vote. Doug Martin and America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, are easy selections.

But with the stunning job the Bucs’ offensive line has done this season, in both the running and passing games, Joe thinks it would be criminal oversight to not have a Bucs’ O-lineman in the Pro Bowl.

And that guy, as it stands now, should be Logan Mankins.

Mankins made six consecutive Pro Bowls before coming to Tampa and getting infected by a loser mentality, highlighted by his bizarre barbecue excuse. But Mankins shook free of that loser mentality this offseason and joined forces with America’s Quarterback to remake the offense and mindset of the Buccaneers.

Joe doesn’t have time to study every left guard in the NFL, and Joe doesn’t believe in the tarot cards sold by Pro Football Focus. So Joe is going off instinct and film here: The 2015 Mankins has been very good, and his intangibles are off the charts.

If Mankins isn’t deserving of a Pro Bowl nod through 12 games, then Joe’s going to need to hear an intelligent person explain why.

Inspired me to go vote Joe. Thanks for that link.

  2. Trubucfan22 Says:

Sure, he is deserving. But bucs dont have the fan base to make pro bowlers. LVD would have been there the last 3 years if that were possible. It takes national attention to get probowlers, Or an 11-0 record. Martin should be a pro bowler based on the year he is having. But i dont think Jameis is having the statistical success to make the probowl this year. Bucs dont get the national attention, most fans probably dont even realize Mankins is still a buccaneer. Or that he is leading the bucs o line to be a dominant force. He is surely deserving but other teams fans would not know that.

  3. D-Rome Says:

I voted for Mankins and Marpet.

  4. OneLove Says:

Vote is in! Thanks for the heads up Joseph!

  5. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I hate that people can vote over and over. The Pro Bowl is a joke. The game isn’t worth watching and getting named to it means nothing thanks to the voting process.

  6. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Joe’s did you see Makins find Jameis s they were coming off the field folowing the game winnin TD, give him a big hug and whisper sweet nothings into his ear? Just so awesome to see a guy like Mankins show that kind of love to our 21 year old franchise QB.

Would love to know what he said to Jameis there, but more than that I just love seeing the 180 by Mankins this year. I can’t blame the guy for being a little depressed, going from the eventual super bowl champs to the team with the number 1 overall pick. But the guy acted like a professional this offseason, embraced the challenge of turninng this franchise and OL around, and has been a real leader in the locker room. Ive become a huge Mankins fan this yr…really fun to see him enjoying the game, and it’s obvious that he’s having a lot of fun out there

  7. Buccanole Says:

Voted for Levonte David and everyone needs to as well if he gst snubbed again it will be criminal

  8. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

I think Mankins is a great “on the field” coach for marpet, smith and most importantly winston, because mankins has been around the best QB in the game and it seems jameis is a student of the history of the game and would listen to everything mankins tells him and in addition winston may ask mankins what brady may have done in certain situations, I hope the bucs keep mankins around next year and I hope mankins likes the bay area now

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I appreciate our players and will vote for Martin, LVD, GMC….

And, I love Jameis and what he is doing for our team….but Joe….c’mon man!!!…..to say that Jameis is deserving of a Pro Bowl is delusional and you totally blow your credibility…..I share your passion & support for Jameis but serious football fans should vote for the deserving players….making it a popularity contest makes it a sham….
And I agree, being able to vote more than once on anything makes it a joke.

  10. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

FYI – Tim Wright has 8 catches for 68 yards & 1 td

    ………………………………..FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON.

    Great trade

  11. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

TBBF, Jameis is the th highest rated QB in the league the last 7 weeks. He’s the quarterback of a team in the middle of a playoff hunt — a team that had the #1 overall pick last year. There is an argument to be made for Jameis in the pro bowl

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Creamsicle

    I’ve got him rated at #25 http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/passing/sort/quarterbackRating

Maybe rookie of the year….but not Pro Bowl…

Cam Newton, Carson Palmer, Aaron Rogers & Maybe even Wilson & Bridgewater ahead of him.

  13. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“FYI – Tim Wright has 8 catches for 68 yards & 1 td

    ………………………………..FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON.

    Great trade”

    ——-

Didn’t we get a terrible kicker in return? If so, I wouldn’t call it a great trade. But I get your point, it’s definitely not a big loss. There were also people screaming about us releasing Mike James, as if that was going to destroy our entire season. We seem to be doing okay.

  14. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

TBBF, I know there’s no reason to argue here — we’re both Bucs fans here.

All I’m saying is that you can make an argument for Jameis to be in the pro-bowl. NOt saying he should be a lock, but you can absolutely say he’s playing at that type of level the last 7 weeks.

Might be 25th overall, but the last 7 weeks he’s the 5th best QB in the league. He has yet to throw a pick in the red zone. He’s taken the worst team in the league last year to a 6-6 record and the middle of the playoff hunt. He’s changed the culture of an entire organization.

  15. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Hawaiian, I’m almost certain the “trade” being referenced is the Wright for Makins trade made last year

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Creamsicle

I don’t disagree with any of your points….I simply have a different criteria for Pro Bowl….In my book….it should go to the most consistent…..top rated QBs on winning teams……Newton, Palmer would be my first two picks for the NFC….
Winston’s value to the Bucs and his recent success are truly remarkable but more worthy of ROY honors for me.

  17. Howard Cosell Says:

    Howard voted as follows:

    Winston
    Evans
    Jackson
    Marpet
    Mankins
    Kwon
    LVD

Spare Howard the slings and arrows of those who h8te Evans

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Joe, thanks for the link. Easy to vote, but it left me a tad confused. Why are Conte and McDougald both listed as free safeties? And why wasn’t Joe Hawley listed at center instead of Evan Smith?

And most of all, why this? Thanks for Voting!
To ensure your favorite players get to the Pro Bowl, please feel free to vote as many times as you would like.

Vote as many times as you like? Really? Makes the NFL sound like what folks used to quip about Major Daley’s elections up in Chicago: “Vote early, vote often.”

  19. SCBucsFan Says:

For all the outstanding players on this team, the one who deserves to go to the Pro Bowl the most is #22. It will be an absolute crime if he doesn’t make it.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    vote is in…GO BUCS!!!

  21. Howard Cosell Says:

Oh yeah, Howard forgot to mention that he did cast a vote for the Dougernaut.

  22. orlbucfan Says:

I voted for every guy on the OLine. Why not? I’m not a fan of the Pro Bowl though. Joe, guys like Dan Marino didn’t go to the Pro Bowl in their rookie years. Don’t care for the Fins, but I always liked Marino. Famous Jameis needs 1 more year. I also voted for the Muscle Hamster and V-Jax. Go Bucs!!

  23. Lion Says:

By far the anchor and leader of the offensive line. I think he deserves truck loads of credit for the success of the two rookies that are starting on the O-line. Pro-bowl indeed.

However, over the years I noticed that most offensive lineman that make the probowl come from big market teams where the ballot boxes get stuffed. Best bet is from the coaches and players poll.

  24. DanTheFan Says:

@orlbucfan and anyone that still refers to Doug Martin as the Muscle Hamster:

Doug has been on record as hating the nick-name Muscle Hamster. Please respect that.

    http://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2015/8/26/9209311/doug-martin-muscle-hamster-nickname-stop

Imagine a co-worker that calls you S#!t-for-Brains every day because he thinks it’s a cute nick-name for you…

  25. Pick6 Says:

i’m not that intelligent, but i have seen Mankins get beaten in individual matchups or incurring penalties more often than i recall non-pro-bowl davin joseph doing so. the guy looks his age with some regularity. his intangibles are off the charts and it seems likely that his leadership is making the young guys better than they otherwise might be, but generally speaking the pro bowl rewards athletic performance, not intangibles. he will get my pro bowl vote mostly because i am a bigtime bucs fan and secondarily because i don’t know the names of most other NFC LGs, but my gut tells me i’m not watching one of the 8 or 10 best guards in the conference week in week out
