Cussing At Jameis
December 23rd, 2015Sometimes, when America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, plays so well, we forget he is just an NFL rookie, still. He’s still learning.
One thing Jameis is learning is that he can’t burn valuable time getting in opponents’ faces to harangue an official. That’s what Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter explained today.
It has been known that the Bucs thought Jameis was a bit too emotional in the early going in the knee-to-the-balls loss to the rotten Rams last week. Jameis’ emotions carried over to barking at refs and opponents which got Koetter hot under the collar.
Koetter noted Jameis “got a little bit out of control” emotionally and Koetter said he can’t have that from his quarterback.
“It p!sses me off, then I am cussing at him on the headsets,” Koetter said when Jameis goes a bit too far wearing his emotions on his sleeves on the field.
“Jameis is the leader of our offensive football team. The quarterback should be in complete control at all times. He is the guy that relays the information.”
When Jameis chirps at officials or opponents, it takes away valuable time, Koetter said, for Jameis to call out the next play or call out line responsibilities, or to audible, or to get receivers into position, all under the ticking play clock.
“There is not five seconds to waste arguing with the ref or getting into a wrestling match with a d-lineman,” Koetter said. “There is just no place for that.”
Koetter noted he had to use foul language at Jameis via the headset communications at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis to try to reign in Jameis’ emotions so he could focus on the task at hand.

Jameis has some “dog” in him. I love that Jameis is a fiery competitor. Not enough players share his mentality. Thank you Jameis!

JOE! What did Jameis have to say about coach Smith or will you just gloss over that? Could be that ignorance is bliss for some but whatever.

Will have to listen to tape again. Don’t recall anything newsworthy he said about Lovie.

The Bucs’ rookie quarterback has acclimated to NFL life, but says that “without that man [Smith] as my coach I probably wouldn’t be where I am today.” bspn reports

“Jameis, your OC is telling you that you should be in complete control at all times. It is one thing to show that you have passion for the game, it is another to lose control of your emotions. Yes, Jameis, you are 21 years old and a rookie. How does it feel to be the leader of this team? Lead by example. You let a couple of Ram players get under your skin.

Wish some of the defensive players had that same fire. We need a few more guys on the team with that fiery personality.
