Chucky Swoons Over Jameis

December 10th, 2015
"I might have another ring if I had a quarterback like Jameis. Bruce Allen blew it for me!"

“I might have another ring if I had a quarterback like Jameis. Bruce Allen blew it for me!”

There may be nothing that Chucky likes more than quarterbacks. Dude is obsessed with quarterbacks.

When Chucky ran the Bucs, he was always trying to tinker and obtain quarterbacks like Derek Jeter did women.

Some were smart yet unreachable attempts (Brett Favre), and some acquisitions were downright dumb, like his fetish for Son of Bob (ugh!).

So it was interesting to Joe to hear Chucky gush over America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, when Chucky made an appearance on BSPN Radio, on the almost always boring “Mike and Mike Show.”

“I love what I see,” Chucky said of Jameis. “I love the way he competes. He has great charisma at the quarterback position. He is making all the throws. He is tough.

“Winston is a factor. He has swept Matt Ryan. He has beat Drew Brees. And to win the South, you have to beat Ryan and Brees and he does get one more crack at Cam Newton. I can’t wait to see it.”

For whatever reason, Joe thinks Jameis would have been the perfect quarterback for Chucky. He has every quality Chucky values in a quarterback.

It is kind of neat to wonder just how much Chucky would have salivated to be able to work with Jameis. Then again, Chucky’s history with young quarterbacks is pretty gruesome.

yeah chucky was movie chucky to rookie/young qbs…its about time jameis got some love…I may be mistaken but I believe chucky preferred mariota over jameis during the draft process….GO BUCS!!!

  2. IANBECKLES Says:

the big what if Chucky took Rodgers instead of Cadillac

We know he wasn’t a fan of Chris Simms so it’s curious if Allen or the Glazers made the call to take Caddy

  3. McBucs Says:

Ian, if I remember correctly Chucky fell in love with Cadi at the Senior Bowl. He never really wanted to draft a QB, he seemed to always want a vet.

Joe, do you remember this as well?

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I have many Bears fans & they all say that Lovie Smith is the perfect HC for Jameis…..not from an instructional standpoint but more as a mentor.

I think the Koetter/Bajakian mix is a very good one for Jameis.
And, it appears they have no intention of a veteran QB backup…..not needed!!!

  5. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

I think Jameis is such a football junkie that Chuckie would love him, despite his aversion to young QBs.

  6. Cat Says:

This is quite a turn around for him! I remember Chucky screaming about how JW should have thrown 40 ints last year and was responsible for his line jumping offside. He was livid at the prospect of JW going to the Bucs.
Everyone wants on the bandwagon now!

  7. Joe Says:

    McBucs:

Sounds right. Chucky did not want to develop a QB.

  8. Dave Says:

Chicly isn’t patient enough with young QBs. Maybe he would have been with JW because of his work ethic and how fast he learns.
If I remember right, he liked MM better, but has come around on JW.

  9. DavidbigBucsFan Says:

And that is why he works for BSPN

  10. orlbucfan Says:

    Chucky’s opinion: Burphh! Excuse me.

  11. Trubucfan22 Says:

Yeah chucky even told caddy that he would take him it he was still there. But i doubt rodgers would be where he is today if he were a buc. Learning 3 years behind favre was invaluable to his development.

  12. Dan Says:

I don’t agree with the notion that Chucky didn’t want to develop a quarterback or isn’t patient enough to develop. I believe he drafted Cadillac because he was coming off 7-9 and 5-11 seasons respectively and felt pressure to turn the ship around immediately which he did, they went 11-5 Caddy’s rookie season. Maybe the Glazers didn’t give Gruden and Allen enough assurance to draft Rodgers and develop him. Simms was drafted in 2003, against Gruden’s wishes, and perhaps the Glazers wanted him to continue developing Simms. I think Gruden did a hell of job with Simms, got as much out of him as any coach could. Simms sucked, and Gruden actually developed him into a not so bad quarterback. Gruden never wanted Simms. That’s what lead to the Gruden-McKay battle and McKay eventually being let go. Well documented. Sorry Joe, did a quick search for an article on your site addressing this but couldn’t find one. Perhaps I didn’t look long enough.

Chucky also heavily swooned over Josh Freeman and I bet he still prefers Marcus Mariota

  14. Rrsrq Says:

Chucky may have preferred MM, yet I recall he was impressed with Jameis recall when he tested him in camp Gruden

Joe(s)…. I’ve been wondering this for awhile….. Why do y’all refer to “ESPN” (Every Sport Programming Network) as BSPN ? (I agree…if it is a slight…I used to like them back in the ’70’s…but now I think they S_CK as a network ! But what is “BSPN” … (basketball ? I do think that sport (save “March Madness”) S_CKS ! … is that it ?

  16. Howard Cosell Says:

Joe is a fan of the NFL Network (“The Man’s Network”).
I think BSPN means “Bullsh*t Programming Network” (but I could be wrong).

  17. BuccaneEric75 Says:

ESPN stands for Entertainment and Sports Programming Network. Joe calls it BSPN because it’s a bunch of BS!

  18. Waterboy Says:

Predraft Chucky said “everything adds up to #8” and said he would draft Mariota.

  19. coder Says:

Chucky never had the patience for a young quarterback. He could never have worked with Jameis, he shouldn’t be dreaming about what he might have done with JW, he should recognize he wouldn’t have been able to watch him mature.

  20. Waterboy Says:

I still remember how he traded Denver for Jake Plummer and Plummer said he’d rather retire than play Gruden.

  21. SteveK Says:

Bspn is bull spit sports network.

Some bspn is ok, but by and large they are a bunch of Disney characters fictionally analyzing sports aka skip Baylis.

  22. Brett Says:

Chucky wants everybody. He signed Rob Johnson. Non-story.

  23. Eric Says:

The worse thing you can do around here is win the super bowl.

Fans just hate ya for it.

Loved the super bowl year but hated the 0 playoff wins and up and down seasons in the 6 or so years that followed.

    Ding!

Chucky was impressed with how Jameis called line assignments, too.

Still cannot understand how Dungy is hero-worshiped around here but Chucky? Meh.

    Just don’t get it.

  27. Joe Says:

    Howard Cosell:

    You know it.

  28. Joe Says:

I still remember how he traded Denver for Jake Plummer and Plummer said he’d rather retire than play Gruden.

Plummer did not play for the Bucs because of any hate for Chucky. Joe spoke with Plummer personally.

  29. godzilla13 Says:

Thank you for the Super Bowl Chucky but your opinions just don’t hold water. Yes, he played it safe by saying he liked both Winston and Mariota. Don’t forget he was the guy who thought the Buccaneers are going to make a mistake in the draft when they pass on Mariota and pick Winston. The same guy who had an open love-fest for Manziel and was outraged after the first 21 picks were not Manziel. You thought Colt McCoy was the next Drew Brees? Last but not least, isn’t he the one who picked “Cadillac” Williams over Aaron Rodgers??

  30. JMN Says:

Quite the 180 turn for Gruden considering on draft day he was very negative towards Winston.

  31. Elle Says:

Have you guys been listening to Gruden ever since he began working as an analyst? He praises EVERYBODY, and I mean EVERYBODY! Still, I love him and miss him, and I’ll always be grateful to him for what he did in Tampa.

  32. RachelWatson'sthong Says:

    He said he liked MG.

  33. Bucsfanman Says:

What? Gruden can’t have an opinion?! Have an opinion and be wrong?! You guys are unreal!
I suppose that EVERYBODY just KNEW that Jameis would be this good right now?!
@Joe- I can’t figure out the attitude regarding Gruden either.

  34. D-Rome Says:

… some acquisitions were downright dumb, like his fetish for Son of Bob (ugh!)

I saw someone at the game wearing a Brian Griese jersey. I was stunned anyone would wear that jersey in public.
