Chucky Lobbies For Koetter
December 10th, 2015Very interesting take Joe just heard from Chucky, the lone Bucs head coach to hoist a Vince Lombardi Trophy aloft in victory.
Now Chucky is a weird guy, a total football junkie, and it’s pretty obvious he’s done with coaching. If he really loved coaching as much as he barks, then he would have taken a job after being jettisoned by Team Glazer back in January 2009.
And, no, Joe doesn’t count him coaching offensive line for his son’s high school team.
Chucky is also damned near a recluse. Rarely does he pop up anywhere around the area, save for watching one of his son’s athletic events, or for a few events that raise money for his charity that donates equipment to high school football programs. Chucky, unlike other former Bucs coaches, isn’t much of a cuddly guy. Maybe that’s why so many in the area still swoon over Father Dungy and dismiss what Chucky did for the Bucs franchise?
Anyway, perk of Joe’s gig talking to a lot of folks off the record, including those who know Chucky. Joe gets the sense from these people that Chucky still harbors a grudge against Team Glazer for his dismissal, now some six years later.
This notion was reinforced two years ago when, at a public speaking engagement in Ocala, Chucky referred to an unidentified member of Team Glazer as a “son of a b!tch.”
So for Joe, it was very interesting that Chucky took to a major national media outlet and began beating the drum for Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter to get a head coaching gig in the NFL, when asked by the co-hosts of the lame BSPN show, “Mike and Mike” about the push of the Bucs to a wild card berth.
“I give Dirk Koetter a lot of credit,” Chucky said. “This offensive coordinator that has come in here and really given the Buccaneers a balanced offense. They hand it to Doug Martin. They have great play-action attack.
“Dirk Koetter doesn’t get enough credit. He should be on the head coaching search watch for one of these teams.”
Joe doesn’t know if Chucky is truly being sincere, or if this is some devilish way to undermine Team Glazer by helping grease the wheels for Koetter’s exit.
Regardless, the second-best move the Bucs made in the offseason, after drafting America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, was hiring Koetter. Joe doesn’t think this is even debatable.
The highest priority for the Bucs is to somehow make it worth Koetter’s time and effort to stay in Tampa Bay for one more year. It seems as though Koetter really enjoys working with Jameis. But that alone may not be enough to keep him.

Mike & Mike is awful — here’s the cliffs notes version of every single days show
Golic: Greeny, you’re a nerd!
Greenburg: Golic, you’re a meathead!
There you go guys…just saved you 3 hours of your life

Winston has this team playing hard, and Koetter has this team playing smart with much better playcalling than I have seen in my young years as a Bucs Fan. Its important to play smart and hard.
Winston will keep the team playing hard next season too. We need to make sure that someone in the coaching staff has the offense playing smart too. Fameis Jameis can’t call every play by himself (though he can do it quite well for a little while, as evidenced by the opening drives without the mikes working) so we must keep Koetter or bring on another strong offensive mind to make it all run smoothly.

“Joe doesn’t know if Chucky is truly being sincere, or if this is some devilish way to undermine Team Glazer by helping grease the wheels for Koetter’s exit.”
probably the latter. there were “other” reasons that chucky was fired and he seems to be a petty individual at times. grateful that the glazers made the ballsy move to get him and that we won it all. grateful to chucky for leading this team to the win, but he is not the white knight that some fans portray.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:15 am
…and your reasons are?
December 10th, 2015 at 11:16 am
Don’t you just love the innuendos? What are the facts?
December 10th, 2015 at 11:32 am
SHOULD HAVE KEPT CHUCKY, THEY WOULD HAVE HAD A NOTHER SUPER BOWEL BY NOW OR THREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 10th, 2015 at 11:32 am
A lot of misreporting did go on during the Gruden years. Example, It was Brad Johnson and Keyshawn Johnson that hated each other and Brad Johnson was freezing him out of the Offense. Gruden finally stepped in and ended up having to suspend Keyshawn!!! Or how about when the white tiger ( Joey Galloway ) had a broken bone in his foot, But the media would report that Gruden good not get him and Antonio Bryant on the field at the same time cause his offense was too inflexible!!! LOL the sheep will just about believe anything around here!!!!
December 10th, 2015 at 11:33 am
I hope Mike Bajakian is learning the offense inside and out and is picking Keotters brain, because he will be our next play caller.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:37 am
Koetter saved Loser Lovie’s career. Bucs need to keep him at all costs
December 10th, 2015 at 11:41 am
@Realist,
Lol. You sure do have some amazing inside info. So tell me, where is Elvis living now?
December 10th, 2015 at 11:43 am
LOL Only problem with your conspiracy theory is that Chucky actually said that at a press conference!!! No one invented that out of the clear blue sky.
C’mon, man. You are better at digging up hate than that.
December 10th, 2015 at 11:44 am
i believe elvis is in lovie’s basement…
December 10th, 2015 at 11:46 am
@admin
And lovie says all kinds of things at press conferences so that other teams might waste time watching and preparing for said player!!!
Its funny how some went after Gruden, And the same praise lovie and attack ASJ and other players!!!!!
December 10th, 2015 at 11:49 am
LOLOLOLOLOL
ROTFLMAO ASJ!!!
December 10th, 2015 at 11:50 am
@lurker
do you think it was Elvis that watched tape to help lovie decide which terrible free-agents to sign???
Elvis says – “2 things lovie, that McCown is a leader, and Priscilla, I love ya” Thank ya, Thank ya very much!!!!
December 10th, 2015 at 11:53 am
@Joe
come on, you know instead of ” ASJ is as soft as tissue” it would be ” he must be in Gruden’s dog house” and “why is Gruden messing with the injury report”!!!
Or are you telling me that the Tampa media is so unbiased that they cover everyone exactly the same????? That they never shine someone up and come down hard on others????
December 10th, 2015 at 12:08 pm
Get a grip Realist! There’s life outside your mom’s basement!
You are reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaacccccccccchhhhhhiiiinnnnggggggggg!!!
Frankly, I disagree Joe! To me Koetter was the #1 off-season acquisition. Jameis is icing on the cake!
December 10th, 2015 at 12:15 pm
@Joe
All I ask is if you ever have the opportunity to ask either Brad Johnson or Warren Sapp off the record of what actually happened with Gruden and Keyshawn, you just might be surprised!!!!
December 10th, 2015 at 12:15 pm
You’re crazy if you think getting our first franchise QB is anything but the #1 acquistion this offseason. Dirk is a good #2. He’ll also be gone in a year or two and Jameis will still be here saving Lovies job. It’s scary to think what Jameis could do with a competent HC.
December 10th, 2015 at 12:17 pm
Im telling you right now he will do anything to hurt the bucs. He knows people listen to him and he knows koeyter really is under appreciated. The glaziers better wise up and do what is needed to keep him around….including showing lovie the door if that is what it takes. If he leaves say goodbye to all of the progress this team has made and could continue to make. Im not saying I dont like lovie….but koetter is needed more fpr long term success than lovie….period!
December 10th, 2015 at 12:17 pm
Sorry, but which job should he take? Maybe the Giants if it’s open. Maybe the Titans if he feels like MM is worth it. Miami… Whatever. Indy if they fire Pagano. Other than that these coaches need to understand not to go to a team just becUse they are hiring. Mike Tomlin lucked into Pittsburgh. Wait until Rothlisberger is now more. If a team has no future at QB why would you take the job?
December 10th, 2015 at 12:25 pm
Chucky John Gruden is an egomaniacal jacka$$. I’ve been an Orlando Predator fan since the beginning. I met both Jay Gruden and his wife, Sherry. Jay was coaching the Preds and even played for a short spell. John would show up at the home games, but he wouldn’t mingle with the fans. Jay was the exact opposite; very gracious and appreciative. I hate that he’s in that pressure cooker known as DC. I wish he had stayed with the Bengals a wee bit longer. He built their offense.
Upchuck won the SB with Dungy’s team. He just plugged a couple of areas on the offense. It was very interesting that the Bucs creamed the Raiders in the SB. Upchuck was their previous coach as true fans here know. Upchuck had plenty of time to develop the Bucs offense into the wide-open offense he won with the Raiders. He never did. That was his fault, not the Glazers. Good riddance!! The only time I bother watching him is if the Bucs are on. I just tune him out.
Mike Smith’s firing is why Koetter left Matty Ice and the Dixie Chicks. He’s on a mission here with Famous J and our offense. He’s not leavong anytime soon. Go Mighty Bucs Sunday!! It’s great getting excited over games again. 🙂
December 10th, 2015 at 12:34 pm
C’mon y’all. Gruden has been talking up Koetter, since he was with Jacksonville.
Go back and listen to games that he covered-back in the day. He bragged about Koetter, when he with Atlanta. He the same this preason when he coveraged a BUCS. Gruden always talks up the minds of Offensive geniuses like Payton, Koetter, Chip Kelly, and others – because the man loves his craft. Game respects Game – Hommie – That’s just life.
Talk about pulling somthing out of your arse.
The Glazers have a real dilemma this offseason – Do the crack open the check book, and Pay Koetter a head coaches salary.
Or let him walk plain and simple.

@luvmybucs
Don’t say that, the sheep want to believe that Gruden is “Evil” and will stop at nothing to see the Bucs demise!!!!!
December 10th, 2015 at 12:44 pm
Hey Realist:
Upchuck ain’t “evil”; he’s just blinded by his oversized “ego.” Look it up if you don’t know what it is.
December 10th, 2015 at 12:45 pm
@Orl
If you can’t spell the name of the man who brought us a championship DESPITE Dungy’s inadequacies, your opinion shouldn’t count.
Gruden speaks highly of everyone these days. I don’t think much should be made of this. Also, I call my best friends sons of bitches, or worse. Ok, usually worse. Gruden is a man, not a school girl. Not some uptight richy rich. He seems like the kind of guy to sit down, have a beer, and make fun of your mother. Can’t act like that in the spotlight, but maybe he let it slip during that much criticized sob quote.
December 10th, 2015 at 12:47 pm
Conflict creates storylines and readership. Well done, JBF.
December 10th, 2015 at 12:49 pm
The Buc Realist
This Sh!t is crazy.
The Bucs have a Top Ten Offensive – That’s unpredictable – And everyones Talking about it. Not Just Gruden – So Fu#K Yeah, He’s going to be mentioned as a head coaching candidate. I’ve heard about 3 annoucers recently mention this on CBS, NFL NETWORK, and BSPN.
December 10th, 2015 at 12:53 pm
Some of you Gruden haters come across like jilted school-girls.
What happened? Chucky was mean to you and you cried?
@Espo
All you have to do is mention Gruden and the conflict will start.
December 10th, 2015 at 12:54 pm
@LuvmyBucs
Everyone pumped up Koetter when the Bucs signed him!!! they called it a major signing this past offseason!!!
And Gruden says that he is doing a great job and should be considered for a promotion and some think that Gruden said it just to tank the Bucs??????
This same talk was going on in Koetter’s tenure with Atlanta as well!!!! As Jamies once said to me ” Sheep be sheep!!!”
December 10th, 2015 at 12:57 pm
Espo
Lol, Exaccccctly.
Sh!t, when we got the grill fired up.
With the liquor flowing -and our wives -yacking it up -in the background.
EVERYONE becomes a sorry S.O.B
I don’t give a damn who you are..lol
December 10th, 2015 at 12:57 pm
I can’t believe how you speculate so much news without there really being news. Unbelievable.
December 10th, 2015 at 1:02 pm
You know what BucClueless??? You are truly the most self absorbed, self involved and self important individual I have ever seen! Joe talks one thing and in the vast emptiness that is your brain you expound upon Bucs Nation with trivialness of epic proportions as if anybody ever asked for, needed or even wanted your opinion! You truly must have been ignored all your life. . . . . . .at home, the bus stop, in class, at work just anywhere in general that you always have to, you have this burning desire within your heart to kill off a gazzillion brain cells of readers on this site! You bring down the iq rating of every person up here. Some false Greek god must have appointed you the Oracle of worthless thoughts, the purveyor of nothingness. You are truly the Trivial Queen. I call you a queen because no real man cries and whines and nags as much as you do! You give Republican/consevatives/Tea Party members even a worst reputation than they already have!
And you know what TampaTony you’re a bigger loser than you can ever call Lovie Smith because he has won more games in the NFL and done bigger things in life than you’ll ever accomplish.

I’m a true fan and you don’t speak for me. Gruden did much more than plug a couple of areas on offense for that SB run that Dungy could never achieve. 26 new players on the team. That’s about 1/2 the team. Yes Gruden basically took TWO teams to the SB that season. The Bucs and the Raiders, because if he was still coaching the Raiders he would have had them in the Super Bowl playing up against Philly after Dungy gets thumped yet again by the Eagles.
Things didn’t work out after that season for various reasons. All coaches move on eventually, so I could care less what the reason is. Both Dungy AND Gruden will always have a special place in my creamsicle heart. You can’t deny what they both accomplished here. Even some of the “new” Bucs fans would most likely agree that the last 10 years have sucked. They and I would gladly go back to Tony Dungy or Jon Gruden in a heartbeat compared to what we’ve seen over the past 10 years.
Any wrongdoings by Jon Gruden after winning the Super Bowl for OUR Bucs in my mind are completely moot. Put all the crap after the SB win on one side of a scale. Then put the Super Bowl win on the other side. The SB win was so big, sparkly, and shiny that it far outweighs anything done after it by Jon Gruden.
The whole damn team that year have a special place in my heart. Even Rob Johnson.lol

December 10th, 2015 at 1:12 pm
And Koetter has interviewed for head coaching jobs in the past, but he just didn’t get the job. He is on front office’s radar already. They did not need Gruden to tell them who Koetter is. Some of you guys are freaking unbelievable.
December 10th, 2015 at 1:14 pm
Oh and about the article. Yes to a degree I think Gruden might not want the Bucs to succeed especially on offense. It would make what he accomplished here on offense look more minimal than it already was. If he’s like that. I get the feeling he’s that type of guy though. He doesn’t want someone to outshine him in any way.
It’s either all that conspiracy mumbo jumbo, or simply just talking about Dirk.
December 10th, 2015 at 1:19 pm
The Buc Realist
Smh – Its madness.
I’m actually waiting to see – how the Glazers handle this.
They’re father Malcolm – was super aggressive, tactful businessman.
He won – no matter what the cost.
Now lets see what his sons are all about –
Now they’re metal will be tested.
December 10th, 2015 at 1:33 pm
Be careful what you wish for. I’ve not heard Koetter say one single thing about a head coaching job. And for you Lovie Haters? He’s not taking Lovie’s job. So stop trying to shovel your dirt..down on Lovie. It would be wise for Koetter to stay in TB at least another 2 yrs. And you never know..the man might not even want a HC Job. So stop trying to push it on him. Not everybody wants to be the..chief winemaker in charge. Some just want to make it and drink the wine
December 10th, 2015 at 1:37 pm
Treat him like we did Kiffin and give him HC level pay. He is that important to our team.
December 10th, 2015 at 1:43 pm
Give Koetter the Asst. Head Coach Spot
Make him the highest paid Asst. in League history if need be.
Continuity is important – Especially when comes to the development of a Young QB.

Dungy might have built that defense but it was Gruden who built that offense but it was Dungy who got him the qb that helped him get the Super Bowl. . . . . . . . . . Brad Johnson. Unfortunately for Gruden he was a one trick pony or in the immortal words of MeShawn Johnson a used car salesman. His problem he refused to draft a franchise qb rather would rather take castoffs and teach them his system or draft back ups and try to pass them off as franchise aka Chris Simms and Bruce Gradkowski. I was estatic when we got him but after all the terrible drafts and stagnant offense was not unhappy when he was fired. If he knew how to evaluate talent and had drafted a franchise qb or pushed to trade for Drew Brees (that might have been another coach not sure) good chance we would have seen another Bowl and he might still be our coach. No tears shed though
December 10th, 2015 at 1:50 pm
Koetter can’t be the H.N.I.C. Lovie is. Maybe Frazier could be but not sure he’s too soft
December 10th, 2015 at 1:53 pm
Koetter reminds me a ton of Monte Kiffin. I just think some guys like the assistant role. He has no reason to want to leave, give him the asst. Head Coach title, pay him a little more (when does Schiano come off the books, problem is Louie Van Gaal is about to be sacked at Man U).

While most of us come here to discuss and debate professional football, the few who come here to troll while using racists comments like that should not be tolerated!!!!
If I were you, I would immeditaely retract that last statement and apologize!!!!

Hey Espo and the rest of you upchucky lovers: I know exactly what I’m talking about. You people don’t. And I could care even less what you think. You need to learn how to write, spell and punctuate. If not, please learn how to use spellcheck. I get tired mentally copy-editing when I read your comments. I’m a Buc fan and that’s why I’m here, so get used to it. Go Mighty Bucs Sunday!!! Ta-ta!

* They’re wrong
* Their spelling is sub-standard
* You’re a Bucs fan

Then show us proof that Dungy would have won a Super Bowl with TB. If you honestly think that, then that’s called an opinion. Most opinions are not considered fact.
Since you’re worried about punctuation and spelling on a blog (I have no idea why)then you might want to learn that you don’t start off a sentence with the word And.

I cannot believe that people still want to detract from what Gruden accomplished here in Tampa Bay. To recognize what Gruden did is not to detract from what Dungy accomplished either. Both did great things here.
@Couch- Would Jameis look this good with Arroyo as OC? Think about it, they go hand in hand.
December 10th, 2015 at 3:20 pm
Ohhhhhhhhh so you all doooooo know what that means! Wow! Color me shocked and surprised! Trust and believe cluelessone it was not done in a racist manner just figured you guys would know what it meant. Figured since some of you incessantly dog Lovie I’d shell shock you. My wife (who is black) has a sweater with it in it. It’s a funny thing the clueless one is acting all offended knowing it’s meaning doesn’t move him in any way. To any of the posters if you are offended by my use of the acronym it was meant in the same way it is always used but I do truly apologize and won’t do it again!
