“Winston Is Doing More For His Team”
November 24th, 2015Joe always enjoys watching the “Move the Sticks” videos pumped out by the NFL, co-hosted by former NFL scout and college quarterback Daniel Jeremiah and former NFL player Bucky Brooks.
Really good educational stuff in these videos.
In a clip the NFL uploaded to YouTube yesterday (sorry, the NFL doesn’t like embed codes), the duo broke down the progress of rookie quarterbacks Marcus Mariota and America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.
The co-hosts used “Top Gun” references to describe both quarterbacks. Mariota was “Ice” and Jameis was “Maverick.” One guy seems timid and will only pull the trigger when the target is perfect; the other is gregarious and has no issues gambling with daring passes.
While both Brooks and Jeremiah think both are coming along nicely, they say Jameis is making the most progress. Jeremiah went over the Eagles tape and marveled at Jameis’ touchdowns, saying each pass was a different type of difficult throw.
The touchdown pass to Cameron Brate, Brooks said, “It’s one of those things you ask your high level quarterbacks to do.”
In short, Brooks and Jeremiah believe Jameis is developing quicker, due to the team records. The Bucs are in a playoff hunt in late November, whereas Mariota’s Titans are still mired in last place in a garbage division.
“Winston is doing more for his team,” Brooks said.

I think we’re finally starting to understand what it’s like to have a franchise quarterback, a top-level, long-term, highly productive answer to the sport’s most important position.
The next 12-15 years should be a helluva lot of fun.

In Jameis we trust! He is heads and tails doing more for his team than Marioto. I hope we keep this train on it’s tracks. If so, we are in for many plentiful win seasons in Tampa!
GO BUCS!
GO JAMEIS FOR ROTY!

It’s time to start the process of simply enjoying our fortune to have a franchise QB FINALLY!!! and, resist the temptation of comparison…..we made our choice and it was the right one and Tennessee ended up with a very good prospect.
I think both QBs have a bright future in the NFL.
Jameis is the right QB for us because he brings so much leadership to a losing culture. I realize it’s human nature to compare and to self congratulate and sell affirm the right decision….but its time to focus on the future.

@TBBF … Great post.
Both Jameis and Marcus have bright futures in the NFL as you said, but the one with the best team surrounding him will have the brightest future. Right now that’s the Bucs … Jameis has far more ‘weapons’ and a better OLine than Marcus has. But we’re still very young and still building that winning mindset. A couple more quality drafts … and more wins … is hopefully all it’ll take to get us over the top.

Since the Titans fired their coach, is Mariotta now a “Coach Killer”??
lol

I am enjoying Jameis’ successes with the Bucs!
I am not paying attention to the Titans!
Enjoy “our” QB and leader!

So who’s Goose?

Maybe Martin can go from a Hamster to a Goose. I really think he would cry.

Tampabaybucfan and Defense Rules, both great posts, I agree with both of you, both will be very good qb’s, we have ours and they have theirs. Winston is the right quarterback at the right time for this franchise. Go Bucs!

Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota will be compared for their entire NFL careers. Both players have flashed star ability and have the look of two of the best QB prospects to enter the NFL in decades. When comparing the rookie seasons one has to go back to the best draft class since the 1983 draft of John Elway, Jim Kelly and Dan Marino. Which is the 2012 class of Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Russell Wilson and Ryan Tannehill. One has to include Matt Ryan, who had a solid debut year in 2008 and Cam Newton who was erratic in 2011,then Teddy Bridgewater, Zach Mettenberger, Derek Carr and Blake Bortles in 2014. What we are seeing from Winston and Mariota is comparable with the class of 2012. What makes Winston so exciting is his ceiling, which is off the charts. He makes throws that only the very best players at the position can make. Throws we have not seen since Elway came out. What sets Winston apart is how he has lifted his team. Not since Tom Brady have we seen a player motivate and lead his team in the manner Winston does. Rookie of the year is in site for him and do I dare say it? A Super Bowl run?

Jameis is gonna play so well next year that he might stop us from getting Dalvin Cook!!! I love Doug Martin but they would be a great one two punch at the beginning of 2017 and then Doug Martin would be the best trade bait ever around the deadline. I hope we can still swing it though, the bucs have been at a lot of FSU practices focusing on the run game! He’s gonna be the best in NFL history!

Dirk Koetter is Goose. Let’s hope Jameis learns to fly with any REO, because Koetter is going to ride Jameis’ success to a head coaching position very soon.
November 24th, 2015 at 2:28 pm
@Fsuking…Martin will never be trade bait. He is a free agent at the end of this year and we either lock him up with a new contract or he’ll sign with another team but he’s not eligible to be traded.
November 24th, 2015 at 4:23 pm
U seem to have misunderstood. In 2 years, if we get Dalvin Cook, trade him midway through the season, after Dalvin takes over as the lead back. And of course he can be traded, anyone can without a no trade clause, which he will never have. Doug is a good running back, Dalvin will be once in a lifetime! The new A.D. Better than Todd Gurley. The best ever!

godzilla13…you can dare to say SB run within the next 2 years for sure. I won’t say anything about this season though as far as the p-word, but I expect the Bucs to finish strong and just miss the playoffs. 8-8 is doable at this point and I’ll take it.
9-7 might get you in, we’ll ALL take that.
Go Bucs…
All Hail Jameis Winston!

FSUKING I am a fsu fan as well and really wanted Jameis but Dalvin Cook, while an outstanding talent is hurt quite often so he would be quite the risky pick. But you are right that if he does stay healthy he will be special.
