Surgery “Good” For Louis Murphy

The knife was kind to him yesterday

It was a damn shame when Louis Murphy blew out his knee against the Redskins and was lost for the season.

The veteran was a professional wide receiver, not a great one, but a guy playing pretty good ball, and a guy with versatility, grit and chemistry with the starting quarterback, aka America’s Quarterback.

Murphy has been busy since the injury breaking down film with Jameis Winston on their days off and being a part of the team. Murphy’s ACL surgery didn’t happen until yesterday, likely because of lingering swelling from the initial injury.

Regardless, Murphy had a “good surgery,” Mike Evans told the Buccaneers Radio Network last night. Per Evans, he and Murphy are tight and Murphy even helped him shop for the diamond ring for Evans’ fiancee — and Murphy has mad jewelry and haggling skills.

Evans would be excited for Murphy’s 2016 return, but Joe would be stunned to see Murphy back and ready for opening day. Yeah, some guys recover fast. But opening day is in 9 1/2 months. That would be a damn quick turnaround for a guy whose career rides on his wheels.

I hate to say this because I really like Louis Murphy……but he just may not make it next year.

We have Kenny Bell coming back and I’m hoping Humphries develops……we aren’t letting go of Shepard because of his ST skills…..it will be an uphill climb for Louis.

There is no such thing as a good surgery when you are an older athlete……stuff going wrong is nature’s way of telling us to consider a less physically taxing occupation……

Don’t write Murph off so quickly. As we’ve already seen this year, the roster you start the season with and the one you end the season with may be radically different. It may take Louis awhile to recover, but he’s only 28 right now and could well have 3-4 good years left after he heals up. Murph may not be fans’ idea of a superstar, but he’s an excellent possession receiver and has a knack for getting 1st-downs. Plus he’s one tough hombre on the field and a great influence on young receivers. I’m pulling for him to make it back in time to help us make it back next year.

We need quick twitch receivers to complement the Double Groots we have on the outside. Not an avg WR coming off an acl. We have zero speed on O.

I wish the Bucs could have drafted Rashad Greene, too bad Jax picked him up. He was one of Winston’s favorite targets at FSU. Look what he did last night against those stinkin Titans 😉
