Bucs Dump Four, Including Swearinger
November 17th, 2015The axe keeps swinging at One Buc Palace. The big head it chopped today is safety D.J. Swearinger, an offseason waiver claim the Bucs were excited about for many weeks.
Linebacker Orie Lemon also was chopped, along with practice squad guys, DB Akeem Davis and LB Quayshawn Nealy.
Swearinger, a former second-round pick of the Texans, was battling injury recently and never broke into the Bucs’ starting lineup as many thought would happen.
Look for Tampa Bay to re-sign veteran defensive end Lawrence Sidbury this afternoon. He was with the team this month (and last year) but was cut a week ago.

After that brain dead penalty at the end of the game…the kind that usually costs us a win…how is Mike Jenkins still on this team?

We are continuing to carry a third QB…..Ryan Griffin……he hasn’t been put on the practice squad because I suspect we fear losing him. The trade deadline has passed…..it looks like they plan on making him Jameis’ backup after Glennon is gone.
I’d like to see an article on this guy and that would generate some much needed commentary.

I really wanted to like Mike Jenkins, but my eyes tell a very different story. He is terrible.

lol Mike Jenkins really is the worst thing
He has to have some scandalous Lovie pictures it’s the only thing I can think of

We always seem to get guys that I think will play well, but don’t, then I keep waiting for them to play well, they don’t, then I keep trying to tell myself that I knew they wouldn’t work out!! Lol

When I went to training camp, Jenkins was beaten on every play. He was quite adept at holding and pass interference however. So maybe he is featured in the “here is what NOT to do film study”‘
His tough guy act doesn’t work.

Jenkins make me long for Leonard Johnson…..at least he made a few big plays..

Mike Jenkins aka Rod Toast Jones

I was happy we brought him in. Swearinger has that attitude and big hit ability I thought the defense could rally around. I’m not unhappy about this decision to cut him tho, he is obviously not contributing to the team. And our safeties have been playing well. I’m a fan of mcdougald, conte, and Tandy. Major Wright hasn’t played bad either.

Id like to see Banks at FS.

I argee with Arealbucsfan! But we’re not personal experts so who knows how that would go. But I was wondering if Joe thinks the bucs should give Chris Matthews a try. I didn’t get to watch the Super bowl so I had never heard of him but I watched some of his highlights and he looks like someone that they could use. What do you think Joe?

A team fighting for the playoffs lets a guy go in the middle of November? Hell, no. That’s a major red flag.
You aren’t going to find any help from guys off the street in November. Cross your fingers VJax and ASJ get back on the field.

I had high hopes for Swearinger but when you’re failing to get the job done, injury or not, this is what happens. I wish him well. I work with some close friends and family of him.
Bottom line, at least we’re making changes after seeing things not work. Maybe its Lovie’s head at stake, I dont know, but the defensive backfield was a freaking mess and needs addressing.

Seattle cut WR Chris Matthews the “hero” of last years Super Bowl. At 6’5/220 lbs and a wide catch radius he seems to be an able replacement for VJax until his return from IR. I suspect Koetter could have him up to speed in a week or 2.
He was the CFL rookie of the year to go along with his SB heroics with Seattle. His niche routes include WR screens, hooks and deep jump balls.
I’m sure Jameis could find this guy in a crowd. Dye/5’9 and Humphries/5’11 seem harder to find in crowd.
Matthews seems like a good fit ATC

Bummed with this move. Thought he had some upside. Does this mean all injury-prone 2nd round picks are in danger?

thanks for the reply, Joe!
