Beckles Talks Double-Teams

Former Bucs guard and local sports radio personality Ian Beckles resumed his potshots at Bucs DT Gerald McCoy.

If it is the day after a win, it is known as Victory Monday.

If it is a day after a loss, then it means Ian Beckles will rev up his anti-Gerald McCoy campaign.

And the former Bucs offensive guard and current WDAE-AM 620 sports radio personality didn’t disappoint yesterday, as he went after his favorite piñata while co-hosting with his regular partner, Ron Diaz.

Just days after saying GMC does not inspire any of his teammates and referred to him as a drama queen, Beckles told his large listening audience they should tune out the term “double-team” when discussing GMC.

Ian Beckles: I have to say this: I think I know about three-techniques and that is what Gerald McCoy is in an under-defense. I think I know three techniques as well as anybody else in this whole city, OK? Because I played right across from it, you know? Chris Hovan knows a lot but there are very few people that know more than me, OK? Let’s stop talking about double-teams. You know what? You can’t double-team Gerald McCoy any more than any other three-technique. Everybody on the field is accounted for, OK?. When they are double-teaming him they are not double-teaming him because he is great. They are double-teaming him because that is the way the play is blocked. You don’t change blocking schemes.

Ron Diaz: So what you are saying is, everybody playing his position is getting double-teamed?

Beckles: Everyone! It is part of it. Either you slide to them or you double-team them on runs. He has a lot of one-on-one pass rushes.

Beckles went on to say if Akeem Spence or Henry Melton were playing for GMC, they would be blocked the same way.

Wow, nice pic. He’s 50 or so right? Says a lot about his maturity.

jealous much!!!! Having a little fun dressing up and getting your picture taken with some hot babes is no reflection on maturity. wow…. lighten up Frances…

Usually we lose when the defense gives up the booty, when the defense gives up the booty McCoy is usually a ghost.

  6. TAC Says:

Well, he got through a double team and hugged some ankles, and made a great play off of his other lineman’s only move speed rush. That makes about 2 game ending plays I remember huggie ever making on the field. Well, there was his worldly known hug of Goodell when he was drafted.

Now he has Sapp’s Cowboys coming in, and Sapp is probably telling him to keep on huggin’ for his boys, f the fans in Tampa.

If he is limited, they need to limit his snaps during the game, he has always been good on the first series, and then disappears for the rest of the game.

He seems to be trying to change the culture of the NFL with all this nice guy crap. Leave that for M. Sam. Good thing that idiot didn’t stick in the NFL, might never get McCoy off of him while the camera’s roll, and they glam up.

prime example of players (McCoy and David) who mean a lot to the team but are just good to every other squad. I said the Bucs should have traded David for a 1 & two #2’s or something while his stock was high, look it up. But everyone here chided me saying that he was a top 5 linebacker, lol.

  8. 813bucboi Says:

as I said before..the defense has no batman…david and McCoy are both robin and catwoman…alexander will be a batman in a year or 2 but with the amount of money those 2 are making they should be playing at an elite level not average….GO BUCS!!!

  9. Buc Neckid Says:

    do the math
    On Defensive Line
RDE, DT, DT, LDE = 4 players

    On Offensive Line
LT, LG, C, RG, RT and sometimes a TE = 5-6 players
and the “push” is in the direction the play is designed to go
SO Naturally there are double teams

Also, the one to two Neutral Zone Infractions by GMC is just ridiculous anymore.

Remember when everyone freaked out when Fran Tarkington called Josh Freeman “God Awful”. Maybe Ian is on to something…

@SchlomieBarMitzvahCircumScissorStein That photo is from the 2015 “The 80’s Party” hosted by the Ian Beckles Foundation, which “Provides awareness, mentorship, and financial support to organizations actively improving the future of children’s lives in Tampa Bay.” Yeah, you read that right, Ian Beckles has a foundation that benefits local children here in Tampa Bay. I’ll be watching for your apology below.

  12. SchlomieBarMitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

If it’s for a children’s charity, then what he is wearing is even less than apropos’. Luther Campbell is a repugnant human,. Furthermore, under the guise of “charity,” people create parachutes for themselves. Do some research before you mouth off scumbag. The NFL is a “non-prfot-charitable-org.” they keep ton’s of money. You are the perfect sucker.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Warren Sapp paid to get “double-teamed”……didn’t work out too well for him….should have paid a bit more.

  14. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Tmax

Thanks for bringing up the pic. I’m getting so old and slow I missed the double team connection!!! LOL

Then again maybe I’m not too old because I was too busy admiring the hot chicks next to Ian.

Wow this is a tough crowd. I have no idea of the setting for Ian’s pic other that what Johnny has explained already. Perhaps there was some “costume” element?
Perhaps that’s just the way Ian rolls and it looks pretty cool to me…again even though I’m the old dude.

  15. sho-nuff Says:

…called sniffles out years ago…never understood how a player could be “great” if he can’t even last a season…if you’re not playing you have zero value…now that Lady Bing is playing…same value…zero

  16. loggedontosay Says:

Big Bubba has checked out Joe.

  17. godzilla13 Says:

The Bucs will lose to Dallas and Philly. We will win a Luck-less Indy game in a dome. Lose the re-match with the Dixie Chicks, sweep the Saints, lose to the Rams and Chicago then win a give me game against the stinking Panthers. End the season 6-10, miss the playoffs and start over next year. Everyone who plays the 3-Tek they get double teamed due to scheme, not because he is GMC. I agree that GMC is underacheiving. Adam Humphries was open time and time again. He should be the #3 receiver over Dontee Dye
