Another Invisible Game

November 8th, 2015

As many penalties as tackles today.

Joe is a Gerald McCoy defender. But Joe also must share what he is seeing, even if he wants to not believe what he is seeing.

And what Joe is seeing from Gerald McCoy of late is painful to watch. The past three games, GMC is playing a helluva lot more like Ghost Johnson than like a Pro Bowler.

Today, McCoy had but one tackle. But he made up for it by being called for lining up in the neutral zone.

Like the game at Washington, but unlike the game in Atlanta, when the Bucs needed one play from their heralded defensive tackle, he was owned — in single coverage.

GMC reacted by stomping out of the locker room, almost walking over two TV camera crews, refused to talk to the Bucs pen and mic club. This is very unusual because GMC almost always mans up and faces the music.

Not today.

GMC was limited in practice with a bum shoulder except for Friday when he was a full participant. Joe has to think GMC’s shoulder is a lot worse than the Bucs are letting on because at one point this year, GMC was leading the NFL in sacks by a defensive tackle. His only sacks the past three weeks would be if he bagged his own groceries at Publix.

In the past four games, GMC has a total of four tackles (and three assists).

If GMC is this hurt, Lovie should say so rather than let GMC twist in the wind of public opinion. If he is this hurt that he can only produce token results, then perhaps he shouldn’t be out there.

Not really related but I wrote earlier that Lavonte criticism was not warranted. I do not know what the hell I am talking about. He was terrible today.

  2. BucTrooper Says:

Remember when Big Dog admitted he couldn’t defend Lovie anymore?

It’s going to be a fun day when Joe decides he’s leaping off the GMC bandwagon. All our addicts will have admitted they have a legitimate problem.

  3. Lovie Is Dog Poo Says:

Whole defensive line is so weak. McCoy is the only starter but he can’t make his teammates better, he’s a good but not great player. We need more from him but simply don’t get it consistently.

$98 million with a base of $95.2 million and $51.5 million in guarantees

  5. tmaxcon Says:

Time for mccoy to make his yearly visit to the IR. His IR visit will give Lovie another excuse why his defense is so horrendous.

  6. unbelievable Says:

Our whole d-line is weak, injured, invisible. Just underperforming terribly.

Need Clinton McDonald back ASAP. Jac Smith too.

  7. Tampa Tony Says:

    McDonald is on IR

Mccoy defenders will say he’s quadruple blocked, but he isn’t

  8. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

He did a lot of standing around the entire game

He probably just wants to keep his body intact (and brain) so that he can luxuriate in the splender that all that money has bought him. Seriously!

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

It’s like a blindfold shooting gallery. Shades of just not in sync.

  11. Newbucsfan2 Says:

Btw.. I’ve changed my name from nbf to nbf2. Someone who had been on the site longer than myself had the name first, so I changed mine.

  12. Ray Rice Says:

Where all the MF’S at that defended him. The proof is on tape. Too bad you are all just noticing the obvious now. Aunt Geraldine is $hit!!!!!!

  13. Doc Says:

Maybe he has been reading his own press clipping. The guy is a below average football player. His number speaks for them-self.

  14. softastissueMcCoy93 Says:

I’m sorry I spent years defending McCoy under another username. I cannot do it any longer. This defense will never great as long as McCoy is the “leader”. It is not the scheme its him. This guy is routinely on the sideline in critical downs. He’s not a representative of great defensive standards. If he’s hurt put him on IR, he is getting absolutely no push up the middle.

I’m at the game screaming my lungs out, and on the 3-down play before the Giants kicked a their final field goal, they show McCoy on the jumbo-tron chatting it up with on of the Giants linemen. I shh!tt you not. Then I look up his stats on the phone and he as one tackle.

Listen to Justin Poloski The CommishOnline Podcast from last week when he talks about McCoy, his take is spot on.

Finally watch the All 22 film of the Falcons game last week. Look at McCoy’s reaction will Jack Smith Recovered the fumble. The guy couldn’t have been more uninspired.

  15. Fire_Lousy_Smith Says:

We know GMC is hurt. Expecting Losie Smith to admit it is idiotic. No coach is going to be fully forthcoming about injuries to key players unless that player is down for the count.

  16. pelbuc Says:

Licht should be crucified for signing GMC and LVD to such large sums yet letting Revis walk. Unfreakinbelievable!

  17. Clint Says:

“At one point this year, Jimmy Clausen led the league in passing after one pass”

So now he’s supposed to have a crystal ball? Every fan in Tampa would be calling him crazy if he hadn’t signed these guys. Revis still isn’t worth 16 million a year, and he’s now on the decline. He was also probably pushed out by Lovie. Revis also didn’t really want to be here anyway, which has an effect in the locker room.

  19. Q Says:

Pure garbage ….as a player….NUFF SAID told those GMC backers ….yall never going to learn …oh McCoy is a bad az now running out avoiding people …he’s a negative person on the field …negative minds brings losing GTHO McCoy and take that shoulder brace with ya …fake injury having self

  20. Raymond James Says:

I love how everyone is all over this f gmc and f Evans stuff……look at the bright spot, I know it’s hard guys trust me. We drafted the savior in #3 or maybe #58 or maybe #74 or maybe all the above. We will be fine next year, cut or trade the dead weight lovie, gmc, David, Evans. We have Winston, he will bring us to the promise land, just please at least give him a couple average joes.

  21. Mike10 Says:

Anyone read we set up the contract structure for Hardy that Dallas ended up using?
Be nice if 93 had some of that dog in him.

  22. Dave Says:

The haters will hate regardless, but it is obvious he is injured

  23. Trubucfan22 Says:

What is there to say joe? He is on the injury report every week. He is obviously not 100%, which is why he is not always in practice and not always in the game. It is disappointing to see mccoy’s production hit this type of low. He hasn’t played great this year. But im not sure what you expect him to do… He’s hurt. If he didn’t play, you and the other trolls would be calling him soft for not playing (like ASJ). If he does play and isn’t 100%, he gets dogged for not being dominant. The way he is handling himself really is troublesome though.

  24. Bucc Nasty Says:

Gerald McCoy plays b*tch man it’s ridiculous. It’s like ever since he’s been dethroned as the leader of the team he’s been pouting and playing like a little punk. It’s sad to say but Gerald McCoy will never become the player we think he can become. Because he’s just doesn’t have the nastiness that’s neccesary to be a great defender. And I’m sick of people making excuses. JPP was out there playing with one hand and made more plays than McCoy. Next year Kwon Alexander will be our leader and show LVD and McCoy how to freaking lead a defense.

  25. Fire_Lousy_Smith Says:

Fire Lousy Smith. Watch D line performance (and entire D) improve immediately.

  26. richbucsfan Says:

If you recall, GMC injured his shoulder in training camp when Javorski Lane hit him. Obviously he hasn’t recovered.

  27. Makie Lovie Says:

    Albert Haynesworth?

  28. dreambig Says:

So lets be real here. Is GMC playing great lately, not at all. Do we always seem to lose him in the 4th qtr? Yes. Does he seem to be a great leader? Not really. But who else on the d-line is ripping it up? No one! Thats who. We need more studs on the d-line to help carry the load. We need to find our Jameis Winston for the defense. We now know its not McCoy or LVD but we also know these guys are capable of playing at a high level. They might just be frustrated at how bad the secondary is. At any rate, we need to find someone willing to lead on that defense. Kwon might be a good start but we need more.

  29. echase Says:

McCoy is a ghost and David cant tackle..

  30. Tampa2ali Says:

Geraldini is tied for third place in sacks for defensive tackles in the nfl…. And that’s with less games than the other defensive tackle… I counted at least 3 times yesterday where he flew into the backfield and forced the run into his defenders…. The hate for this guy is unwarranted… Look around the league defensive tackles are not the splash play guys they make it possible for teammates around them to get the splash plays…. So before you go running your mouth about what he’s doing and what he’s not doing, please check the stats around the league to see where he matches at his position…..

  31. Tampa2ali Says:

And for u guys who obviously never played football stop comparing defensive end to defensive tackles two totally different positions, and two different assignments

  32. Another J Says:

    It wasn’t just McCoy.
We also got zero production from either defensive end!
Eli was practically walking over to our DE’s, but They wanted to parts of touching Eli!

  33. Makie Lovie Says:

We are not looking for stats… You know what they say about stats. How about impact plays? I guess there is an expectation being one of the highest paid tackles in NFL history. I hope it is temporary. I hope he does better and heals if that is the case. Maybe he should rest and get better. Can another guy do much worse? 1-2 tackles per game?

  34. Pick6 Says:

the guy is in a lot of pain and playing through it. i don’t think it’s fair to call him soft. ineffective, absolutely. injury prone, slightly. but soft…absolutely not. he could be pulling an ASJ but he is out there playing as many snaps as his body will allow. unfortunately, whatever seems to be ailing him, playing through it may not be the best thing for the team
