The Huddle Blues
October 7th, 2015A no-huddle offense is to America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, what the siren played by Ali Larter in “Varsity Blues” was to the quarterback character “Mox,” only without the whipped cream.
Jameis shines in the no-huddle offense. If the Bucs would play that offense all the time (unlikely), then Jameis just might be a perfect fit.
However, the Bucs do not play in a no-huddle all the time and Jameis adapting to a standard offense will go a long way toward him mastering the NFL game. And Jameis spoke about this today in his weekly presser.
To paraphrase a famous Jameis saying, it’s not about the no-huddle.
“I like the up-tempo but my job – we have one of the best offensive coordinators in the whole league. I just have to do what he coaches me to do,” Jameis said. “I have to take care of the ball. He has put me in great situations. I have to just make the right decisions more consistently.
“No-huddle is easier to make the right decisions because it is quicker. You have to make a quick decision and get the ball out of your hands. So it doesn’t matter if it is no-huddle or huddle, at the end of the day, the ball has to be in our hands and not the other team.”
Jameis is improving. Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said today that Sunday Jameis had his best day as a pro on third downs and has his best game with the red zone offense.
But as Koetter also noted, four picks washes away all the progress.

Dirk is doing the job. He knows Jameis has to understand the full NFL offense and then he can utilize the plays to fit Jameis strengths. Jameis looks best with the no huddle but until this offense proves itself, the no huddle offense can mean a lot of quick 3 and outs that would wear down our defense fast.

“I like the up-tempo jameis says.. I love that stuff Myself and would like to see more, much more of it, thats fun football in our house here..

Was this meant to be ironic? In light of everything written about him in the spring and summer it sure seems so.

BUCS fans aren’t going to like this BUT…
You have to take it slow with Jameis
OR ANY FIRST YEAR QB IN THE NFL
or you will break him.
Do not expect anything that can resemble progress until the last half of the season

Buc Neckid….I told these mofo’s that same thing way back in August, that they’ll have to wait to midseason before they see the real JW. Tough schedule after midseason or not.
Then again some of them already declared him a bust the day he was drafted. There’s no talking to those peeps.

Exactly whether Winston is a bust or not is yet to be determined. The sample size so far is nothing to get excited about.

I’m trying to figure out if both Joe’s are high on Winston. Since one Joe is with big dog now, is the other Joe or Joes as big a fan of Winston as regular Joe? That may have been a prerequisite to be a JoeBucsFan writer. Are you guys twins?

Four picks and a fumbled snap. That’s a lot of mistakes for a 4-game stretch, much less 1-game. How is that progression?

Why in the world have the Bucs been trending in the Top 10 on Yahoo all day?

Everyday I come here and get disappointed not to see an article saying Lovie was fired today 🙁

@Joe … “But as Koetter also noted, four picks washes away all the progress.”
Don’t minimize the bottom line Joe. Jameis might well have done some very good things in Sunday’s game, but the bad things that he did were very bad and cost the Bucs the victory. Doug Martin, VJax and lots of others had a very good game. Jameis … Not so much.
But he’s a Rookie playing the most demanding and visible position on the field. If Lovie is going to stick with him as starting QB, this is the price that you pay.

I have news for you idiots that keep bashing Jameis as though he is the first rookie QB to go thru some tough times early in his first season. We weren’t going to the playoffs whether it was Jameis starting or not. Both he and this team need to take some lumps and learn from their mistakes.
The good news is that they are extremely young, their line seems to be getting better and they have some very young talent in key positions on this team. Screw the # of wins and losses is year. I want to see a dynasty for years to come. I want to see the mistakes go away as the year progresses and for them to learn to win together. If by mid year you don’t see this thing start to turn around then it’s time to complain. Until then, understand some of the bad needs to happen for us to appreciate the good that will eventually happen.

I have been a Bucs fan since 1976. I am a dyed in the wool fan. Former season ticket holder till job opportunities made me move away. This has been one of my favorite sites for everything Buccaneer. The Joes are always entertaining and bring their own slant to everything.
That being said, I have to point out that every time I see “America’s Quarterback” used for Jameis, I find it hard to even read the story. You are making a mockery of the young man and yourself by using a made up nickname for him that sounds like you are either making fun of him or just trying to be the fanboy creator of a cutesy name that almost no one but you and maybe a few of your readers find cool.
I live up north now & when I mention that a Tampa reporter has bestowed a nickname to our young rookie quarterback and tell them it’s “America’s Quarterback”….laughs and derogatory comments follow. You aren’t doing Jameis or the Bucs a service by sticking to this ridiculous nickname for Mr Winston. It is continuing the laughingstock image that we all hate.
This post will probably cement your resolve to continue using the moniker for him and that is a true shame. Jameis has found himself in many situations already that have hurt his reputation (deserved or not…just reality) he doesn’t need any help in inviting criticism.
My request would be that you would give your nickname for him a rest and allow him and support him (which I know you undoubtedly will) to become “America’s Quarterback” on his own. If he can earn that title, and true Buc fans are pining for that to happen, then you can take credit for coining the name. (if that is your goal)
For now please consider taking credit for anointing him as “America’s Quarterback” and retiring the phrase while the young man continues to try and earn it.
Support him completely, but don’t incite more criticism just to prove a point.
