The Fightin’ Bucs Offense

October 29th, 2015
Band of brothers.

Band of brothers.

Yes, the Bucs had 16 penalties Sunday, an absurd amount for a professional team.

But a few of those penalties can be chalked up to honor.

Yes, honor. The Redskins were getting chippy with America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston. Imagine, a team representing our nation’s capital disrespecting the nation’s quarterback. That’s like leaving trash at the Lincoln Memorial.

In particular, fellow rookie Ali Marpet, who is developing a nasty on-field streak Joe loves, took issue with the disrespect and went after a Redskins defender to protect his quarterback. Joe has no issue with that.

Yesterday in his daily press conference, Jameis spoke about how the offense is becoming sort of a band of brothers.

“We fight for each other,” Jameis said. “Fight is a strong term, but we battle for each other. Not only are we playing with each other, we’re playing for each other. I love my teammates. We love each other and we don’t want anyone to try and intentionally hurt one another.

“As an offensive lineman, that’s the mentality, ‘I’m trying to protect my quarterback.’ Me and Ali came in here together. Me, Ali and Donovan [Smith] better have a tighter bond than anybody. It’s just competing. Some of those calls can go any way, it’s just who they see. I believe it was a flop, but Ali is going to fight for me.”

Joe just loves reading that. And right there is yet another example of what Vincent Jackson said last week, that Jameis, then just five regular season games under his belt, is the team leader in the locker room.

He really does come across as a leader of men, doesn’t he?

This franchise is in good hands.

This guy…. What a great guy. What a great teammate. What a mature young man. He’s smart. He’s cool. He’s playing better than I imagined besides one game. He gets it and has it.

I just pray Koetter makes it to next year at least for Jameis’ sake. Preferably as head coach but as long as he’s coaching on this team in 2016, I’ll be satisfied.

I agree Clodhopper I’m hoping that he won’t have to go thru a new offensive coordinator for a few years.

Someone tell McCoy to take notes. Might learn a thing or two about how to truly lead as opposed to just running his mouth.

Give them a freaking purple heart for valor.

Not a surprise to anyone who has been following Jameis’ career, but it’s always exciting to read stuff like this.

The guys love Jameis because Jameis loves the guys. Is there anyone still out there that thinks we picked the wrong QB?

Love the throwback video Joe….I play that album until my tape popped.hopefully the Bucs will drink some brass monkey this week against the dixie chicks. We need it….

    Exactly CBH, exactly.

This might be why the Offensive line is playing beyond expectations.

The defense needs a leader like this. If we had a true leader on defense we could be pretty good. Well, also more than 1 cb worth a crap would be nice too.

“Ali is going to fight for me.”

Play of the game IMO. It’s set the tone for the unit if not the entire team. We ain’t NO punks come try us if you want. Love love love that ish. Reminds me of the good ol days.

  12. Pick6 Says:

i hope a coach or mankins pulled Ali aside for a teachable moment there – “listen, kid, if you’re going to get the 15 yards, at least put the guy into the ground instead of letting him do an NBA style flop”

We all know who that player was who took the flop? Why is everyone shying away from the fact that Dashgone Goldson was taking exception to some of our rookies? He was talkin trash and needed someone to set him straight. I loved the fact that Ali Marpet took him on and the way Winston, Hawley, Mankins and Cherilus were right there backing Marpet up. When Marpet went to the sideline Lovie was waiting for him and you could see Marpet saying “it won’t happen again?” Won’t happen again? If he is standing up for his QB he did the right thing. On one hand Joe says that it is a nasty on-field streak he loves but in a radio interview called William Gholston “out of control” for three personnel foul penalties in the same game? IMO this is what this year is all about. Building team chemistry and backing each other up.

Protecting your qb is different from just hitting and kicking people after the play because you are mad.
