For the second time this season, America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, has been named “Rookie of the Week.”
Jameis won the award for his performance in the Bucs’ thrilling home win (first in 10 months) over the jughead Jags.
Per the release from the Bucs, Jameis completed 13-of-19 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown. His 11.0 yards per attempt rank as the second-best mark by any quarterback in Week 5.
The last time Jameis won this award came after the Week 2 win at New Orleans.
Joe guesses the haters are going to try to wash this news away when they hit the bars shortly.

Nice job Jameis. I could care less what MM is doing personally. The Bucs wanted Jameis to push the ball down the field and be a gunslinger and now have him managing the game. I think that’s a good move. In time her will be able to do that but he needs to learn the NFL game first. Jameis managing the game and not satisfying that itch to sling it is a big deal we dont talk about in itself i think too!

Woulda coulda shoulda had it week 3 IF Mike Mike Mike did his job slightly better… Oh well, we BUCS fans know he has put his team in contention 3 out of 5 games… Coulda shoulda woulda been in contention had he not turned the ball over in the manner he did the other two… Even still IF the D had played a little better he was playing to bring us back/make up for his mistakes in those games!!!
I say coming out of this bye week the D will finally find themselves against the porky pigs and all games going forward!!! This means Americas QB will have the spotlight shining bright on him to lead us to victory… You know kinda like Glennon and those Josh guys…. Perhaps JW won’t fold under the pressure to carry his team like they did!!!
At the end of the day, it all comes down to QB play as real die hard BUCS fans know… Which is another reason Filter winning a Super Bowl makes me annoyed to hear his name… Sometimes it just don’t make sense… SIMPLE AS THAT…

Congrats to Jameis and Rainey for the individual awards and to Barth for making all the kicks and to the whole team for the win. It may have just been the Jags but a win is a win. 2-3 looks better than 1-4. The only negative is #28 Jennings. That guy sucks or at least sucked against the Jags and I cannot for the life of me figure out why he is starting. Defense is going to be the Achilles heel of this team.

5 rookie of the week awards have been handed out. 3 times out of the 5 a Buccaneer has won it. Twice by Jameis Winston, once by Kwon Alexander. Give credit where credit is due. Congrats to the Buccaneers who have won the award & congrats to Mr. Jason Licht!

1987 laying the smack down, I don’t always share the same point of view but do like your style man 🙂 I’m just happy that my biggest concern with Winston (maturity or lack there of) seems to no longer be an issue. I’m not sold yet that he’ll be an elite “next Andrew Luck” QB in the NFL, but I am very pleased to see him be a good team mate, a guy putting in the work to even have a shot at living up to the hype, and most importantly behaving like a guy who understands he was drafted to be a face of the franchise and can’t pull some of the same stupid sh!t he did in college…not every player has that light bulb turn on after becoming a pro (unfortunately). Here’s to hoping the guy is all that was promised and more.

But lets not get carries away, he’s a popular guy, my guess is anytime he gets put up he’ll likely take the win. He’s got the Buc and FSU fanbase voting feverishly for him anytime he gets put up.
I’m just hoping for gradual improvement every week, let’s hope after the bye week, even though crappy evans will be back in the line we can take another step forward and not 3 steps back.

JW looks best throwing screens and check downs. He doesn’t lose games that way like he did versus titans and panthers. I think he is making progress but not ready to win games for us. Eric, not a Lovie fan but I agree with Pat Kirwan. Coaching turnover is a franchise killer. i say leave this group in place another 2 years. That way JW has same OC and QB coach and franchise can develop. Again, i don’t like Lovie but think another coaching change hurts the whole team especially our young, hopefully franchise, QB.

87- I stand by those quotes. taking us out of games by throwing pick sixes is NOT pro ready and hurting the team. I do think we would win more games this year with MG because of his experience. WE were sold that JW was PRO READY which he is NOT!! If he played the way he did versus titans and Panthers he would be out of the NFL in 2 or 3 years. His play last week was and is vey encouraging for me. When we limit his options, he plays well.

CAPT nice try. I’ve been a fan and seasonal ticket holder for 22 years. I am not humiliated, I just raised questions and concern about JW like I do about very aspect of the team. IT seams that some on this site want to hate those who disagree. The JW matter is far form settled. For the record I am hoping that he IS the guy that yu all think he is. I am not there yet. To all you Lovie Smith and Jameis Winston haters look what NFL.com had to say about Lovie and his QB. BTW the Bucs jumped 6 spots fro 31st to 26th!
This is as far up as we are moving the Bucs for now, 26th, based on the fact that their two wins came against two of the weaker teams in the league. (The Saints and Jags are both 1-4.) Still, nice job by Lovie Smith and company, who shut out the noise following Jameis Winston’s miserable day vs. the Panthers, stuck with a game plan that didn’t ask for too much from the rookie QB and prevailed. The recipe for success in Tampa: Have Winston drop back 25 times — tops — and let the ground attack and defense try to go win the game. Dougie Martin looked fresh Sunday. I see your 123 and two touchdowns.

You can’t tell me that Philip Rivers is the 18th best QB and that Fitzpatrick and Josh McClown are top 10 QB’s. It even has Cam Newton(who’s having a great season so far) ranked 22nd. Only stat that matters is wins and JW has 2 and MM has 1.

My main point is you can’t trash the kid one week and support him the next. You can be critical sure, sure you can be critical, but this “Bucs fan” supports him one week then the next he’s on his way to Canada. All it takes is for JW to have a bad game and he’ll be right back at it again saying I told you so.
That’s not the case though today on this thread….he supports him.

You’ll have to dig back to before the draft to get any anti-Winston stuff on me. But not a word of it was wrong. Still isn’t.
Once we drafted him, I got behind him, but that didn’t erase his faults. Time and experience should, if he keeps working at it. It’s still not a sure thing, but he seems to have the right temperament for it.

Tiny tim why in da hell are you on here. MM has gotten worse every week stop just lookin at stats becuase if it wasn’t for MM going against the unprepared bucs defense his stats wouldn’t look as good. Here’s a stat for you out of MM 8 td’s he threw four of them in the bucs game. So that means in fours games since the season opener he has 4 tds 3 ints and about 4 fumbles lost.

All I care about is winning and that makes Winston the better QB right now. The kid will find a way to win and he is a leader. That is really his strong suit; he has the ability to shut out the negative and make his teammates believe in him. He has the talent and by the end of the year he will make guys like BucNut2 and TinyTim get on the board and apologize for being soooooooo wrong.
