NFL Network: Vincent Jackson Out For Weeks

October 28th, 2015

V-JaxReporter Ian Rapoport delivered the news on WDAE-AM 620 this morning.

UPDATED:

Jackson left Sunday’s game in Washington with a knee injury, and it appears to be significant but not season-ending, per Rapoport.

Crushing blow to say the least. Mike Evans is sure to see a steady diet of double teams, and with Louis Murphy injured, it seems Russell Shepard is the No. 2 receiver.

UPDATE: Joe asked Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter if Vincent Jackson was out for Sunday’s game. Koetter wouldn’t answer Joe and instead, advised Joe to ask Bucs coach Lovie Smith.

  4. Buccfan37 Says:

The Bucs have it backwards, adding injury to insult. This team is a ringer proving Murphy’s law.

  5. OneLove Says:

    SON OF A !@%!@%!@%!@%

Now the offense is going to struggle and Lovie is going to get the blame for this too!!

“So my advice would be, yes, it’s okay to throw things at your TV when your team has a monumental collapse like the Bucs did on Sunday in Washington. But take a deep breath and understand that it is only going to get worse if you continue to jump from one coach to the next.” – Peter King

  6. Cannon Says:

This sucks… any status on ASJ?

  7. DB55 Says:

Cheap shot by Goldson. I thought Sheppard was out too?

  8. 911bucs Says:

    This saves Lovie’s job

  9. Tom Edrington Says:

As if ASJ is a game changer….please…..he’s the big poop!

  10. Buc15 Says:

It is time to unleash Humphries and Hall

  11. SOEbuc Says:

    Agreed Buc15

  15. ShutTheBucUp Says:

    Wow, just gets worse

  16. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I said it right after the game. I said it again yesterday.

Consider this. Mike Evans has only just come back from an injury himself. If he goes down…

…well…kiss our offense goodbye for the next few games. Minimum.

On the bright side…we might get Jackson and ASJ back at the same time.

  17. Lovie'sbasementmonster Says:

We are in need of a wide receiver and I know there are some free agents out there…Wes Welker for one, anyone else?

  18. Lovie'sbasementmonster Says:

How about an FSU reunion, sign Preston Parker, He’s available.

  19. tsbucsfan Says:

That is unfortunate as the offense has been making tremendous strides. I have faith in Koetter and Winston though, so I’m not too worried. As long as Lovie stays out of their way they should be fine. Everything that man touches turns to crap.

  20. godzilla13 Says:

Its time for Licht to earn his salary and go trade for a starting WR. Even when Jackson is healthy we need the depth. Goldson is a cheap shot, trash talkin chump. Any one else see Ali Marpet take him on? I have never seen Marpet so angry. He pushed Goldson and he proceeded to do the weakest flop in world history.

In the Beginning of Edward J. Debartolo Jr Reign in San Fran

The 49ers’ burned through “multiple” coaches and general managers.

    Here’s the kicker….

He actually changed coaches fives times in 2 years.

    Why you ask?

Because the Pursuit of Excellence is ALWAYS Better than Settling for Mediocrity.

  23. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Ya know, I was saying all offseason long how important it was for us to go out and add another WR. All offseason long on this website all I heard was how deep our WR’s were…how we had the best combo in the league

And there was CBH, getting laughed at for suggesting how thin we really were and how if one of our top 2 went down how screwed we would be

    And now here we are

  24. Lord Cornelius Says:

Onelove I still hope Lovie can turn it around but a lot of my faith was based on how the D played the last 2/3 of last year and this years D has completely regressed from that and I’m sorry but there is no excuse for that when the coach is a defensive guy. We’re literally the worst in the whole league and its not because all the other teams have pro bowlers at every position while we have scrubs. There is proven talent in guys like David/McCoy/Verner/Banks who are looking worse with Lovie than b4 he arrived

  25. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    @luvmybucs

That’s the guy I have always wanted to buy the team.

  26. ChanEpic Says:

Dontaye and Adam Humphries time y’all!

  27. MtBucsFan Says:

Trade Glennon for a solid WR.

  28. mike Says:

it will be good to see what evans does w out him.

  29. Mo_Downs Says:

I did some research (NFL Draft Profile) on Dye, Hall, Humphries and Davis.
Based on the physical traits WR’s we’ve had in TC that were cut I must conclude that the remaining WR’s understand the playbook while the guys cut didn’t.

Once Jackson went down and didn’t return to the DC game I figured we’d be looking deep into the bench for help at WR. After concluding that Russell Sheppard was alr3ady on the 53 and Dye was promoted, that leaves Humphries and Hall as the next men up.

The majority of passes caught by Humphries were thrown by Glennon in preseason. That is the same for Hall. So, we really don’t have much game film to make a reasonable decision regarding which of the 2 are best for our current situation and more likely to be promoted to the 53.

The fan favorite seems to be Humphries because he had a pretty good pre-season and seemed to be a (fan projected) Wes Welker clone.

I think that Humphries will get the nod to join the 53 because he may be able to contribute more on ST. It should not go unnoticed that Humphries was the target of the pass that turned into a pick-6. Jus Sayin’

My rating (A-F) of the bench WR’s are as follows.

    Humphries: C (ST+, Hands+, Routes?)
    Hall: C- (ST?, Hands?, Routes?)
    Davis: D (new to playbook)

To be honest, I’m betting that Koetter sticks with the Run Heavy formation whenever possible. This means that only 2 WR’s will be on the field most of the game. I also think that ASJ won’t be back for a few more weeks.

I’m really worried about a Dye/Humphries duo at WR when Evans needs a break. That would suggest that one of the 2, if not both, will have to run deep routes to open up the field for short to middle routes by the TE’s and RB’s.

I’m not sure either Humphries or Dye could get open deep and I’m even more worried about Jameis throwing to them in a 1 on 1 deep situation.

Oh Well, looks like our RB’s and Evans are going to see the majority of passes coming their way. I don’t think that idea will be a mystery to Atlanta.

    Go Bucs…!!!!

  30. BuccaneEric75 Says:

CBH, I agree. I hope Winston can stay in his groove.

  31. OneLove Says:

    @Lord Cornelius

I know its painful bro. But it’s apart of the rebuilding process. You have to admit your excited about the direction our offense is headed!! That’s 2 years of drafting mostly offense. The foundation is set. Now it’s time for Lovie and Licht to address the defensive side of the ball cuz its UGLY!!!

Another thing is there’s 2 sides to this argument.

On one side you have the respected and admired Peter King….. And on the other side you have bucrightoff and Tampa Tony……”Hi I’m Peter King and I have Direct TV… And I’m bucrightoff, and I have cable….”

“It’s as simple as that” – Lovie Smith

“Changing coaches about halfway through a rebuilding effort is a recipe for perpetual failure.” – Johnny “America’s Commenter” Dejay

  32. DefenseRules Says:

@LUVMYBUCS … Eddie Debartolo did in fact change coaches 5 times in 2 years when he bought the 49ers in 1977. But after those first 2 years, he only had 3 HCs total in the whole time he owned them (1977-2000). And all 3 HCs were pretty good: Bill Walsh (10 yrs … 3 SBs), George Seiffert (8 yrs … 2 SBs) and Steve Mariucci (4 yrs with Eddie D).

Beyond hiring some great HCs, Eddie D also made sure everything about the 49ers in those years was done First Class. Best players, best facilities, etc. Why did they win so much you ask? First class organizations usually do.

  33. Another J Says:

Sign Nick O’Leary off the Bills practice squad, Give Jameis another familiar target until ASJ, and the rest of our receivers are healthy again!

  34. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Love and Warrick Dunn – He’s a rare breed

DefenseRules – The things that Mr. D has done for players & their families over the years is legendary.

  35. Couch Fan Says:

This doesnt matter. We would lose anyways even if he played with the Imcompetent one sleepily calling the shots from the sidelines. Take the rest of the year off V-jax and wait til we hire a new coach at the end of the season.

  36. Buccfan37 Says:

I was wondering who that was that Marpet pushed down. Too many nit picky personal fouls being called by itchy fingered refs.

  37. ATrain Says:

What happened to VJax ? Does anyone know…
