Louis Murphy Out For Year With ACL Injury

Murphy’s season is done

Lovie Smith broke the bad news this afternoon.

Veteran wide receiver Louis Murphy left the field grabbing his knee yesterday in Washington, and Lovie confirmed Bucs fans worst fears at One Buc Palace today. Murphy will be placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL.

Murphy, 28, had 10 catches this season for 198 yards, including one yesterday for 29 yards.

Look for the Bucs to promote Adam Humphries from the practice squad, and go shopping on the open market. The NFL trade deadline is in eight days.

The Bucs cannot afford to risk Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, having a thoroughly inexperienced wide receiver corps.

    Bummer!

  2. Clodhopper Says:

That sucks. Even though he was rarely used he was very important to this offense. And clutch a few times this year already. I really like this guy and wish him well

  3. Goodell Must Go Says:

Terrell Owens is available. He’s looking for a job.

  4. mike Says:

that sucks but he was gone after the year so lets see what these young guys can do. I hate it for murph though

  5. This Guy Right Here Says:

Feel bad for Murphy… I wish him the best..

Just gotta say though, after losing Murph & VJ, I still couldnt believe Winston was still fighting & completing 3rd down after 3rd down with just Evans and Dye..

Damn this kid could teach our coach a few things about heart & a will to win.

  6. Trubucfan22 Says:

I really like murphy. Always thought he was underrated. Winston is going to miss his third wr. Hopefully ASJ can get back Asap so we can have at least 3 receiving threats.

  7. ElioT Says:

Maybe they can find a trade partner for Glennon, acquire a decent slot receiver and a pick?

I knew it was only a matter of time before Jackson went down too. Winston has hung him out there on some very small windows.

They need to get someone decent asap. Can’t afford to hurt #3’s development as he is one of the only bright spots.

    Siege this!

    #cantwaittilljanuary

    Go Sucs!

  8. The Buc Realist Says:

I thought the bad news was that Lovie was still the head coach???

  9. ElioT Says:

…oh yeah and if Austin China-Doll-Sefarian-Jenkins can manage to play some ball if it’s not too uncomfortable for him.

  10. This Guy Right Here Says:

Can we trade Lovie & his son (our DBs coach), along with our 2015 1st & a 2016 1st??

Not for anyone in return, but just to get our Head Coach out of Tampa!

  11. 911bucs Says:

Bad news but hopefully Humphries can step up.

  12. Buc15 Says:

Hump is a stud. Bring up Hall too.

  13. Howard Cosell Says:

Murphy was playing great. I hate to hear this.

Here’s wishing him a meticulous rehab and a great 2016 season.

  14. passthebuc Says:

Detroit just fired its OC and staff just before leaving London.

    Send Lovie to London.

  15. This Guy Right Here Says:

I’m with Murphy… I’m out for the rest of the year too.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Murphy was underrated….and made some great plays….

The silver lining here could be the development of Humphries, Dye & Hall….

It is situations like these that help develop future stars…..

  17. ChessMaster Says:

I guess the Bucs need a good Hump.

  18. unbelievable Says:

I thought Hall was cut from the practice squad to make room for the running back coach’s son?

  19. No better way to say it Says:

Terrell Owens is probably still better than half of the WRs in the NFL. Sign him to a cheap 1 year deal.

  20. Johnny "America's Commenter" Dejay Says:

It’s very sad, Murphy is a big hearted player. I don’t think the Bucs will make any huge moves, definitely not Terrell Owens or Randy Moss. That would just be rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The Bucs need to develop some talent from within the program and build for the future.

  21. DB55 Says:

    Godspeed

  22. denjoe Says:

I like murph but we never used him, VJ is our best possession Wr. Doesn’t really matter Our defense sucks ans so does the coach. We squandered all the winnable games. We no the drill same old crap with this team.

    Haaaaaa!

I liked Murphy as the #3. Dude was making stuff happen every now and again. I hope one of the youngsters steps up and/or ASJ retur… Oh wait ASJ got injured by me typing this.

  24. Arealbucsfan Says:

    Where f**k is Kenny Bell!?!

  25. nate_tweetz Says:

Kenny Bell is on IR… I liked Rannell Hall alot. I hope they bring him up. Is Wes Welker still willing to get concussions? We could use him.

  26. nate_tweetz Says:

Some notable WRs currently walking the streets:

    Andre Davis
    Terelle Pryor
    Solomon Patton
    Ace Sanders
    Preston Parker
    Hakeem Nicks
    Donnie Avery

  27. Howard Cosell Says:

That’s terrible that they’ve sunk to prostitution.

  28. buc15 Says:

We don’t need any more WRs. Bring up Humphries as a slot guy & Hall/Shephard as a 4th option, leaving Dye as an emergency option.

  29. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Isn’t Jackson injured as well?

  30. godzilla13 Says:

Why was Kaelin Clay released? What is Mike Williams up to these days? Maybe we can trade Detroit and get Tim Wright back to play WR? Pittsburghs Sammie Coates maybe? I know Buffalo has a ton of receivers and needs a QB?

  31. Nuc if u Buc Says:

Hall time, he can shred in the slot, hump had his shot…
