It Takes A Team
October 21st, 2015When Doug Martin caught a dump pass over the middle for a 10-yard score against the Jags, it sure looked like great second- and third-efforts by Martin.
It was more than that.
In a cool feature on Buccaneers.com, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht goes to the all-22 tape and explains how if everyone else on the Bucs didn’t do his job on the play, it would have been blown up by Jacksonville.
Licht shows the objective of the players and how they accomplished it.
Licht thought the touchdown swung momentum of the game for good in favor of the Bucs. Joe also liked how Licht said that inside the 15-yard line, he wants seven.

It’s always interesting to see & hear a coach or GM break down a play like that. Hawley, Marpet & Evans did a great job of blocking and were critical to the success of the play, but the ‘Wow’ factor was the move Martin put on the safety. Without that, the play might’ve gotten 3-4 yds but certainly no TD. Seems like Doug is seeing the field & holes so much better this year, and his quickness is really shining through. Sure do hope that keeps going and that we re-sign him. A strong running game makes all the difference in terms of keeping the defense off-balance, and takes me back to the days of Dunn and Alstott.

What stood out to me was the hell of a block that Mike Evans executed on this play. He went all out and drove his guy into the end zone ……. awh crap, as I type I can’t help but think of Michael Cla…. Nope, not going there. Evans did a great job on this play!

What’s funny about this play is that Hawkley was so far down the LOS there should have been a flag for illegal man downfield.
