Injury Limiting Gerald McCoy
October 1st, 2015The Bucs are headed out onto the practice field as Joe types.
Presumably, one of those players practicing will be the stalwart of the defense, Gerald McCoy.
But GMC is in a world of hurt. He’s not even remotely his usual jovial, joking, chatterbox self. Today in the Bucs’ locker room, GMC was subdued, tight-lipped and the way he gingerly walked so slowly, you can tell he is in pain, probably a lot.
GMC wouldn’t respond or talk about his shoulder injury. But when pressed by the “Custodian of Canton,” eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune, to answer whether his shoulder injury is limiting his play on the field, GMC responded, “Of course.”
This may be the most pain Joe has ever seen GMC in. Joe’s never seen him so subdued, quiet, almost upset. His words are clipped and short and seem just above a grunt; not the talkative GMC everyone knows.
But GMC is going to tough it out for the game (so we think). If the Bucs didn’t need a win so badly, then Joe would expect GMC would either be on a pitch count or told to sit out the Stinking Panthers game.
But the Bucs — specifically, Lovie Smith — need a win. Hence, GMC, as of Thursday afternoon, will suck it up.
For the team. For the Bucs. For Lovie.

Does it really matter if McCoy is hurt or not? Now McCoy can just disappear on the bench instead of during games. If he wasn’t in you would never know it because his name is rarely called. Go work some more on your Judge Dread hairstyle bro!

Just sit him. It’s always something with him. Excuses or injuries it’s Mccoy’s calling card. Not going to bag on a guy for being hurt but no need to make the often injured mccoy a martyr just sit him. He’s not a game changer anyway.

Id rather have a healthy Melton playing his position
October 1st, 2015 at 1:43 pm
I’m looking forward to seeing what the line can do without him. Melton seems more than capable and he’s been seen making plays in the fourth qrt. Big plays like making tackles and recovering fumbles.
McDonald and Melton should shine along with gholston. I think we’ll be more than alright.
I hope gmc recovers quickly.

sit McCoy…start clint McDonald and William gholston at dt with j.smith and g.johnson at de…bring in h.melton on 3rd down in place of gholston..both McDonald and gholston are our top run stuffers at the dt position…both players graded out better than McCoy in the run the pass two weeks anyway according to pff…GO BUCS!!!

If McCoy was as good at football as he is in getting injuries and running his mouth he would be heading for Canton. Instead we are stuck with an over rated soft tackle.

Funny…….I thought stalwart meant sturdy and reliable.

In that photo above mcCoy looks like I do when looking at the game scoreboard..lol

@MTM,
Do you even watch the games? Did you not see what he did in New Orleans? Did you not see how he beat the guard like a drum play in and play out, with the center there helping??? Did you not notice how Drew Brees couldn’t step up into the pocket, allowing Jack to collect sacks? You are so clueless it’s funny. Understand the game just a little before you hit Submit Comment.

Well what do you know! Mr Potato chip has a boo boo and LVD forgot how to tackle. Bucs lead the league in overpaid , overrated players laughing all the way to the bank. Just trade GMC since we know Bucs don’t win when he’s playing and light a fire under LVD but that would take a coach with a backbone.

For the record, I wanted to Suh and all his bad-a$$ery. The Bucs need attitude. They put fear in NO ONE. Alfred Blue? C’mon, we’ll never hear that name again, unless he ends up as your State Farm agent.
I’ll tell you this: McCoy is being quiet because he knows what this is – a THIRD MAJOR ARM INJURY. So he’s keeping his trap shut because he knows that a lot of people are already labeling him as an injury prone bust who misses chunks of seasons at a time. So he’s keeping quiet and flying under the radar.
Joe, you said it yourself. He’s not the “jovial” guy you know (ASIDE: I’m sorry, but “jovial” isn’t a word I want being used to describe my 3-Tech DT). This is calculated.
Of course all of the above is speculation and really, I have no clue if any of it is true… BUT I DO HAVE A THEORY THAT FITS THE CIRCUMSTANTIAL FACTS.
Thank you… enjoy your Thursday.

October 1st, 2015 at 3:40 pm
…….. just wait on it.

S-O-F-T!!!
Frazier is Charmin and GMC is Angel Soft…..they both stink or at least over rated. LVD looks aweful…where did his tackling skills go when he got the big $$$??
Ive been “waiting on it”…for 8 (2007) years now…where is that a$$clown who was saying that all the time after we won A game….
Only shine is JW does not look like a bust but it does look like he has a long way to go…Dilfer’s happy feet analysis was right on..
Rush to 5 wins….may be soon looking like 3.
Panthers 28 Bucs 17

Actually…we’re going to lose this week no matter what…so this is the week that is best to rest him…since the following 2 games are very winnable.
October 1st, 2015 at 5:39 pm
The guy has missed 3 games in the last three years playing the most physical position in all of sports, and you fat arse non-athletic bums call him soft? LOL. He has played through injuries that we couldn’t even walk around in, yet he’s soft, overrated, etc. When he plays through major injuries, you then complain he’s not doing enough! No wonder so many people consider Tampa fans to be one of the worst in the league. You should all be embarrassed, but you’re stupidity won’t allow that.

Chill out Hawaii. We’re not getting paid 90 million to be a non factor every Sunday. Jack Youngblood played a playoff game with a freakin broken leg. Oh but wait, he was a real football player so spare me the “cry me a river, poor GMC” crap. The dude has always been more bark than bite. Bucs defense sucks with and without GMC.
October 1st, 2015 at 11:11 pm
He is in his 6th season…he should be dominating and taking over games..wreaking havoc for a player picked so highly in draft-3rd pick of draft. I just dont see nasty when I see GMC playing…sorry he is just not that guy. He wont ever get more than 10-11 sacks a season. You have your opinion…I have mine.
I love this team but I must admit that the ship has veered way off course and lovie is still in denial basement. This team is bad….lets be honest. Who in their right mind lets Zuttah go (watching him dominate at moment blocking downfield) and picks up a bunch of rookies to replace them. Top it off with a rookie QB who is struggling to excel at reading Ds….Talk about submarining your odds in the NFL. Thats not a knock its normal…
October 2nd, 2015 at 11:29 am
Coaches downplay injuries all the time but the weekly injury report is supposed to be reasonably correct. Lovie says he’s not injured so I guess he’s not on the injury report, but GMC sure looks and plays like he’s more injured than the normal aches and pains from on field collisions.
October 2nd, 2015 at 11:55 am
At least McCoy is willing to play injured. I am sure he will rotate more Sunday. Look at the bright side, Henry Melton is playing well enough to get the extra snaps. William Gholston is playing the best football of his career. He dominated in the second half of the Houston game, penetrating into the backfield time and time again. I am not sure if George Johnson should even get playing time over Gholston? Anyone else asking themselves what is wrong with Tony McDaniel? Thought all the Lovie haters would like his quote yesterday – “We are hoping to be close to being what the Panthers are now. They are on a roll right now. And we are looking up at them.” Come on Lovie.. how about “We are playing a divisional game and the Panthers are beatable. They maybe on a roll right now and but we are in our house and plan on stopping them.”
