“Extremely Physical”

Trench warfare at One Buc

What the heck was going on at Bucs practice yesterday after cornerbacks coach Gil Byrd was dancing and screaming?

Gerald McCoy says the Bucs, wearing pads for the first time since playing the Jaguars, were engaged in an “extremely physical” practice.

McCoy said it was by design.

“You know the Redskins, and how Coach [Jay] Gruden has been talking, offensively, the two games they won, they averaged like 150 yards on the ground. So he said he wants to get back to that,” McCoy told the Buccaneers Radio Network. “They kind of got away from that a little bit. So we know they’re going to try and run the ball. And they have a physical offensive line, a physical brand of football they play up in Washington. So [Monday], with it being our only padded day of the week, it was extremely physical, and I think it went well.”

If you’re Jay Gruden, how do you attack the Bucs defense?

Joe’s not so sure the Redskins will go all ground and pound. The Bucs’ secondary could be in for some early testing.

    Throw to Jennings side all day is how you attack the Bucs.

  2. Newbucsfan Says:

    But seriously, Jennings isn’t that bad he just had a bad game right?

    Jennings got Debacled! I crack myself up…….

  4. ShameisTheFarmer Says:

    No, he IS that bad. Known for being slow AND never has been good in “man” coverage. Hence the reason why he was better in T2 zone coverage. Since we systematically don’t use T2 coverage that much, he gets caught.

    Blitz Jennings

    I really wish people understood the concept that Lovie doesn’t run the traditional T2 that much here, nor did he run the traditional T2 that much in Chicago. He played a ton of man to man. That’s actually what he prefers to play. He likes to go the T2 on third and long, but so do a lot of teams. Jennings played a ton of man to man, and was damn good at it. The problem is, he was 5 years younger and didn’t have knee injuries. I’m not defending Lovie or Jennings, but these ignorant statements about what kind of defense Lovie runs or used to run is just too much.

    HawaiianBuc … And sometimes players around them make a player look better than he really is. Who were the LBs, CBs and safeties surrounding Jennings in Chicago? Ya, he had some pretty decent talent around him.

    If you defend Jennings play on the field please stop watching football.

    I don’t care what he did in Chicago or 5 years ago..

    He cannot cover. He falls down every other play. He is not physical at all.. Bench him…

  10. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @DefenseRules,

    I’m with you 100%. Again, my purpose was not to defend him, but if someone wants to criticize someone, at least get the facts straight. It’s not too much to ask.

    @Atrain,

    100% agree. But I doubt it’s going to happen. Lovie has a fondness for the guy, and that runs deeper than actual performance on the football field.

  11. PassItToSteven Says:

    Lovie must admit defeat after this coming week when Jennings is again beaten at every turn… or maybe Jennings has some sort of dirt on Lovie? That would be the only reason to start trash

    If
    Our cornerbacks are Banks,Moore, And Verner
    And safties are Macdougal and Conte

    Then our Secondary is s strength
    If
    If

    We are getting better at stopping the run. Our D-line and Lbers are starting to work in unison. Wish Tony MacDaniel was playing. He is a force against the run

    Biggest question- Is Lavonte David back to normal? He was useless in games 1 thru 4. That was killing our run defense
