Deep Balls = Blocking Reward

There’s a way to get your number called for a deep shot

Vincent Jackson and Buccaneers’ wide receivers coach Andrew Hayes-Stoker believe Tampa Bay has the best blocking receivers in the business.

But it seems there’s more than just desire at play.

Speaking last night on the Buccaneers Radio Network, Hayes-Stoker said there’s a bit of an incentive play for the unit.

“Those receivers need to know that the blocks down field and play-action are heavily tied together,” he said. “So if they want to be featured in the pass game with deep balls like Mike Evans caught early in the game [Sunday], they need to be down field blocking for the backs.”

Intriguing insight: Block or we won’t call your number.

There’s no question Doug Martin has benefited from great blocking by Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson and Louis Murphy really get into it.

That was sorely missed a couple of times on Sunday, with Murphy and Jackson out with knee injuries. Joe even Tweeted about it during the game. Rookie Donteea Dye got eaten up down field and Martin lost what could have been a monster gain.

It a shame that Martin didn’t get the TD but we need to do something like this for the defense. Even with that I think the D is broken

Nothing bad to say about what the offense is doing. They’re showing progress, they are competing, they’re giving their best effort every Sunday. The fools who screamed, “WE HAD TO DRAFT MARIOTA!” after the loss against the Titans are just that, fools. Winston is the real deal. Vincent Jackson is a seasoned veteran with plenty to offer still. Mike Evans’ talent should be evident to anybody, I don’t think he’ll turn into a blocking icon like Clayton. Martin is probably playing the best football of his career now. In short, the offense is there, they’re coming together. I admit, I had doubts about Koetter, but I was wrong.

A shame that football has three phases and one of them is led by an utter incompetent fool who is setting this team back.

V-Jackson has been putting in work in the blocking department, He helped Doug Martin, and Mike Evans rack up the yardage with his blocking!

I don’t know if he was saying they will call the WRs numbers as a reward. I read it much more as blocking on runs opens up the deep ball on PA, because the DB’s think you’re coming to block them, not trying to blow past them

That’s what I got from it too CreamsicleBanaanaHammock! Either way, we may need to look into picking another WR up in the draft or Free Agency next year. Louis Murphy gets hurt every year and V. Jackson only has another year or so left at his current skill level.

What’s the word on V-JAX Joseph?

Creamsicle, me too. I’m glad there are still people who can read. Besides, an award like that doesn’t make sense. Run the offense according to game plan and situation and by what the defense gives you.
