Clayborn: I Would Have Cut Me

October 28th, 2015
No ill will toward Bucs.

No ill will toward Bucs.

One of the sad realities of the NFL is that if you can’t answer the bell, no matter how talented you may be, you are at risk for unemployment.

And so former Bucs first-round pick, defensive end Adrian Clayborn, playing a position in which the Bucs needed dire help, found himself unemployed and on the street in March, when Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht did not pick up Clayborn’s let Clayborn walk.

Now with the Dixie Chicks, Sunday’s opponent for the Bucs, Clayborn said he totally understands why Licht let him go, so he told D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“If you pay somebody and they only play two out of the four years I wouldn’t pay them again, either,” Clayborn said Wednesday. “There’s no hard feelings. It is what it is. It’s business.”

That shows you what a good dude Clayborn is. And everything worked out in the long run. Clayborn found steady work.

A tribute to the Bucs from league management is warranted. The award is the Spread the Love Bro’s trophy for sharing unwanted players who turn out to be starters for other teams.

i wish clayborn well. seems like a good dude just did not work out here.

  3. DB55 Says:

Honestly I don’t think ANYONE in TB can evaluate talent ie Clayborn, Blount, Barron to name but a few. Everyone said Penn was washed up too, smh, I’m glad we got Penn 2.0 now.

It must be this f’n sun that drains players energy or something.

    Joe,

you should update the caption of the clayborn photo to read “Hello Realist, you were right!”

  5. Goodell Must Go Says:

I predict he’ll sack Jameis Sunday.

OK Realist…..here is your long-awaited article on Slowborn….as you call him.

Now, here’s the deal….Adrian is playing as well as he can…..It is the “Pop” Star that is responsible for drafting him in the 1st round……

    Good luck to Clayborn…..next week!!!

  7. DB55 Says:

I’ll take anyone with clayborns motor and passion. Wish we had more of that on the dline. If not for Jac smith, gholston, McDonald, Melton, George and Howard Jones we’d have no passion at all on the dline.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Good for Clayborn. He understands why he was cut. And often times, a player need a, Wake up call when they are cut by a team. He is playing better with Atlanta. He just never got it going here in Tampa Bay. Good dude/class act.

  9. Greg Says:

It’s always good to see player’s go to a real team and be successful

  10. ThunderSack Says:

Dude has 7 tackles and 2 sacks so far this year.

Rockstar! DE in the 1st round (Bowers in the 2nd) with a degenerative upper body issue.

    Great move.

Clayborn is a “dawg”, and much respect to him, but that was a horrible pick.
I hope he, at least, had a long career.

    Siege This!

    Go Sucs!!!

Classy guy. I wish him well. At least he’s playing for a real coach now. That’s my point! Movie and Schiano aren’t real coaches. Until the Blazers stop hiring who they think are real coaches, this mess will never change. Real coaches know how to evaluate talent and keep it instead of getting rid of them…..blah, seasons done, I’m done smdh
