Charles Sims Starting To Show Up?
October 6th, 2015We saw something rare at the Den of Depression last Sunday. No, it wasn’t a quarterback responsible for five turnovers. It was a running back catching a touchdown pass.
In consecutive games.
Charles Sims, who may finally be showing the promise Lovie Smith believed he possessed when he was drafted in the third round last year, has now caught touchdown passes in consecutive games. For a Bucs running back, that hasn’t been seen around these parts in decades.
How rare? Try 1991.
In October 1991, Robert Wilson caught touchdowns against Philadelphia and New Orleans in back-to-back games (with a bye week in-between).
Maybe, just maybe, Sims might be flashing. Time will only tell if this is a fluke or the start of something bigger.

He was targeted another time in the end zone but the pass was bad/ he dropped it

Off subject….but you had no comments on Ad.
I think the “Kyle Brindza, trust your valuables” ad is in poor taste….sure, clever….but I really don’t think its good to celebrate or poke fun at a player’s demise.
Have just a bit of empathy. Brindza went from absolutely nothing to brief stardom to humiliation and defeat. He may have lost his chance to follow his dreams.
That’s a shame….because he can’t blame anyone else but himself….and that makes it even tougher.

Damn that Jason Licht.

Agreed on Brindza. He just had his dream popped in terrible fashion. Leave the kid alone.

Typical around here is to label players busts after a few games or a season or two. Sims was hurt last year and a Rookie with a poor offensive coordinator. He was drafted largely to catch passes out of the backfield. He has shown flashes and established that he has good hands. In the past two seasons we have had only one or two games in which all of our weapons were healthy and active in the same game..tjack, evans, s-jenkins, sims, etc. The trouble is depth. Righ now we don’t have a reliable tight end. If we get all these guys h es altho at g he same time, this can be a good offense, provided Jamis progreses.

WE just signed barth..lol

Feel bad for Brindza.
** Wait a minute I thought the Dean of Sports Radio blamed Brindza woes in Houston on the turf. Another wrong comment
** Since the Dean has so much patience for Lovie, defense, bad kicker but none for Jameis in his 4th game. Maybe the Dean can get the Glazers to do a straight up trade for Manziel. Since he was so good on that call also.

Not a shocker with Barth. He was the only option. But make you pause when all these kickers are missing field goals and extra points and no one has brought Barth in.

If you go back and look at Sims’ career at WVU, you’ll see that many of his big plays came when he was lined up in the slot, and many draft anylists projected him to play slot receiver in the NFL

Sims has looked great in consecutive games in the passing game as a receiver and has shown big strides in the running game as well. He had nice runs in the last two games and should’ve gotten his number called upon more. I mean he could’ve had ten carries to go along with Martin’s twenty. The bucs need to go to this guy more when he is on the field instead of all those passing plays. They need to find more creative ways to run and Sims presents that ability and is proving hes ready to take on a bigger role with the team. He and Martin could help each other in two back shotgun formations as well but they need carries to become involved and to take the ball more out of Winstons hands when in defensive struggle type games. We have the running game to set up the pass late in games but we have to go to it more often like on the first play of the game more often too instead of having Winston passing to start games off. We also should dial more screens to these guysas well because Martin and Sims especially can catch out the backfield as well with Sims even being able to play some slot as a speedster as well. Lovie and Koetter actually have to put their heads together with their offensive philosophy. Lovie knows this team needs to run the ball for success with Winston not spread the ball and pass so Koetter needs to call more running plays but creative ones like counters or misdirections with the shifty and speedy but powerful Martin and more tosses and Iso to Sims as well too.###play4WINStonfight4LOViE

I do like what I’ve seen from Sims this season. He plays with speed and adds a different dimension. Hard to be patient but some of the pieces are starting to take shape.

He’s not fooling me…will never a make a runner…3rd round pick for a 3rd down back = wasted pick…

6 carries
23 yards
3.8 avg
Longest run 7 yards.
Rainey has consistently done better than that and he can’t even get on the field. Then again who am I to question the infallible Lovie smith? His roster moves have proven to be impeccable or impeachable one of the two.

Id like to see more screen type plays. More plays for the rb running routes. Forte always had a big presence for the Bears passing game. It has been decent for us. But some nice arrow routes and circle route could be what we need to expose the middle of some defenses. Never understood why we don’t utilize the rb’s more. More than just screens.

I highly doubt Brindza would care about his name in the mover ad. Sims is going to get his TD’s this year, more of them.

I agree sims should be featured in the offense a lot more. His moves are just sick, he literally leaves defenders stunned. He has more potential than just being a 3rd down back!
