Bucs Find New Kicker

October 6th, 2015
Hello..

Hello, again.

The Bucs have a new kicker.

Same as the old kicker.

And his name is Connor Barth. That’s the word from Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, per Barth’s agent.

So now Bucs fans can relax. This national nightmare is over. Wait a minute, the Bucs still haven’t won a home game since Greg Schiano prowled the sidelines.

Nice digging by Gil Arcia, too.

And who did not know this was going to happen?

  3. nick Says:

    he sucks too

  4. BrianBucs Says:

Thank goodnes that Lovie finally learned that in the NFL it is more important to make your FG’s and PAT’s than to kick the ball through the end zone on KO’s

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Great guy….solid kicker…..not too strong a leg. I wonder if Schumm will do the kickoffs.

Barth is from my hometown and I am excited about him returning to the Bucs….comes from a family of kickers…his brother, Casey is also a kicker but never made it to the NFL.

  6. Jeagan1999 Says:

So let me see if I have this correct….Connor Barth was our kicker, but apparently he wasn’t good enough, so we cut him…after trading TE Tim Wright to the Lions for Kyle Brindza…who then went on to miss about half of his kicks and contributed greatly to our rotten start this year….so we then cut him, in order to re-sign…Connor Barth…whom we cut in the first place?

In Lovie and Licht we trust. No wonder we are the laughingstock of the NFL right now.

  7. bucrightoff Says:

It’s not even the kickoffs that is the problem. His range is maxed out around 45 yards. Now it doesn’t matter because we can’t make a sub-40 yarder right now anyways, but Barth is a stop gap. They need to find a long term kicker.

  8. Howard Cosell Says:

Instead of “It’s a Bucs Life”or “Siege the Day” the slogan for the
    marketing campaign should be “DOH!”

  9. SchlomieBarMitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

It’s the CLEVELAND SHOW starring the voice of LOVIE SMITH! LOL!

Lol…the Glazers run this team like the Walmart of the NFL.

  11. BrianBucs Says:

I have to admit though that I do like Mike Tomlin’s thoughts in Pitt as they haven’t tried a PAT yet this year, always go for 2 after a TD

  12. Tampa Tony Says:

Just waiting on a home win

  13. Jason McLaurin Says:

A great maneuver but now they are in a bind on kickoffs. The defense really needs to step it up now because the field position aint gonna be good thats for sure and he was struggling in preseason as well. Draft Aguayo from Florida St and start making trades and gaining extra draft picks to do so as well because lovie needs a kicker that can go at top level as well. Enough said. 2016 they need to draft two tackles with the first two picks, a kicker, and one more linebacker for the strongside. Get an extra second rounder to be able to draft a top flight corner Ramsey. I wouldn’t buy into a defensive end in the first round right now.

  14. Bucco Brice Says:

the next nightmare might be kickoff coverage…Barth cant kick off…

  15. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Who says social media can’t get you a job as a NFL kicker…looks like the trolling on Twitter actually worked. So now Barth needs the whole kicker of the past not good enough to be kicker of the future but brought in to be kicker of the present nonsense similar to what Glennon gets here.

  16. JMN Says:

This organization has no idea what the heck they are doing. I’m fine with the Connor Barth sign cause at least he can kick it through the uprights. But this makes Lovie/Light look really bad.

  17. DB55 Says:

Again, I will never understand Lovies decisions. His ability to manage a roster is atrocious.

  18. CAN'T FIX IT Says:

I BET YOU I COULD DO BETTER THAN LOVIE SMITH, AND HAVE MORE WINS TOO…….

  19. Ernest T Bass Says:

There should have been a try out of three kickers. Lovie chose Brindza cause he made a 57 yarder, he chose Shameis cause he threw 60 yards at the combine. Rash decisions are foolish.

And Tim Wright aint no 4th TE. He proved it as a rookie and with the Patriots. He stepped in for Ebron and made a big time catch last night. No Bucs TE could go to the Pats and catch 30+ passes and 6 TD’s from Brady. Schiano knew Wright had talent.

  20. DB55 Says:

    Ernest

Lovie is a bum, simple as that. Proof is in the pudding.

  21. lightningbuc Says:

Seriously, what a bunch of buffoons.

Trade Tim Wright TWICE and back to the kicker who was cut TWICE.

Larry, Curly, and Moe called – they are ready to take over coaching and front office immediately.

  22. SchlomieBarMitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

“the next nightmare might be kickoff coverage…Barth cant kick off…”……What was our record WITH A KICKER THAT COULD kick into the endzone?…Yeah, we stopped all their drives from the 20…Sure.

  23. MTM Says:

So let me get this straight. The Bucs GM and Head Coach cannot evaluate the kicking position. Are you kidding me!! Tell me again how we are on the “verge”. Apparently finding a kicker in Tampa is like finding a franchise quarterback in the NFL. The Bucs are the 3rd world of the NFL. Pathetic doesn’t even begin to describe this franchise.

  24. Buc1987 Says:

Jenkins, Jennings, Brindza, Collins, Johnson, Johnson etc etc etc.

So many boneheaded player moves. I could go on and on, but why bother.

The players they keep bringing in is a clear indictment of their incompetence. You don’t even need to look at the W/L record.

Bucs signed Punter Schum (On Bucs Practice Squad last season) who not only a solid punter and does kick-offs and onside kicks well. Look for Barth and Schum to both make this team if they perform wel

Schum- We had him on our practice squad last year and recently cut by the Jets, brought in last week. This guy kick offs well and has punted extremely well so far. The Bucs should have kept Schum and Conner last season & should go with them this year. Why repeat the same mistake.

Do you have a problem with the Rooney rule?

  27. mjc Says:

    Like as a kicker

On Sunday September 27th Brindza made a 57 yard field goal to pull the Bucs within 7-3 of Houston. At this point he played 1 preseason game and 2+ NFL Games and looked like the best signing the Bucs had. I even leaned over to my son and commented what a weapon he could be as you can kick field goals anytime you get inside the 40yd line.

1 1/2 games later he is cut by the Bucs as quickly as he won the job. He is out. Missing 5 of 7 field goals and 2 PAT’s.

I would keep Brindza on the roster or at least practice Squad. Let him work through issues. The Bucs have played around the roster so much that the 53 rd player is not going to play anyway. Some teams have QB battles, why not a kicking battle.

If Barth misses, put Kyle in. vice versa

I know everyone will say you need the extra roster spot. If this leadership knew what they were doing then I may agree. But let’s be honest they have cut and signed over 15-20 players since opening day.

  28. Stanglassman Says:

For those who say Conner has a weak leg remember he has kicked mutable 50 plus FGs including 57, 55. He may not kick off for touch-backs that often but he kick offs with good hang-time and the field position historically isn’t bad in 2009 it was 18-19 yard line.

    Schum also kicksoff well.

Cold weather, NFL ball, great hang time.

  29. J. Measor Says:

They need to draft Roberto Aguayo next year. Work on that Joe

    “he sucks too”

Last time he played was 2014, in five games for the Broncos. In those 5 games, he went 15 of 16 in field goals.

He’s had a year off, but I’m sure they put him to the test.

He’s temporary anyway, but he doesn’t “suck”.

  31. bucsbedabest Says:

Can we bring Donald Penn back?

  32. Tony Says:

Well, at least we didn’t need Tim Wright because we have ASJ- Oh, wait…

  33. Buccfan37 Says:

I believe the Steelers did kick a PAT in a recent game.

  34. steve Says:

Does anyone remember how bad our special teams looked in the preseason? They looked awful. Lovie took Brindza because he could kick it out of the end zone and cover up how terrible the SPECIAL teams are.

  35. Jeagan1999 Says:

To quote the movie “The Replacements”…..”I’ve seen monkey sh*t fights at the zoo that are more organized than this!”

  36. chris Says:

And yet 87, these two were trusted on the pick of a franchise qb, when every move (almost) has been idiotic head scratchers . And you feel they got that right….? Why? Because of FSU and how much of a genius he is on the playbook…that pick will be talked about like all the other bone head picks not made during the Wynche/ Dungey era.

  37. Pickgrin Says:

    nick Says
    “he sucks too”

86% on all field goal attempts and 60% on 50+ yard attempts – no missed extra points with 6 years in the League. That’s FAR from sucking….

  38. Buc1987 Says:

chris…yes I’m not worried they got the Winston pick wrong. To me it was like drafting GMC at the time. A no-brainer. They can’t ef that up…
